Any brands you don’t get?

Sacrilege but for me it’s Seiko (sorry). Too many have day/date complications which personally is a red line. Frequent reports of bezel and/or index mis-alignment on high end models. Widely reported variation in accuracy on mechanical watches. (Having said all this, I would definitely not say no to an Alpinist 😁!)

Are there any super popular/famous/successful brands that you just don’t get? And why?

I completely agree with you on Seiko. The alphabet soup of reference numbers is confusing and I’m unwilling to spend hundreds of dollars on a watch that looks exactly like another Seiko that costs $50. That being said I would also snap up an Alpinist if I ever saw one in the wild.

I also don’t buy into the Tudor hype, Oris seems weird to me and don’t get me started on Tag.

Too many to name but “u-blow” and Richard Mille might be on the top end. Invicta, Daniel Wellington, Vincero, and other fashion brands on the bottom end.

Yes I should have also mentioned the references!

Sinn, Nomos, Panerai...

·

Panerai. One design, like it or lump it.

Bell & Ross. See Panerai.

Nomos. Not all Bauhaus is this deathly dull.

Sinn. Just an also ran in all categories except pilots, which hold no interest to me.

·

Low hanging fruit: Richard Mille. I just don't understand them/their appeal at all.

In fairness, I think Panerai has two designs. Otherwise, spot on.

Agree completely. I typically try to keep it under $500. After all. It's just a watch and there are so many beautiful homages in that price range. No one really cares what we're wearing, so I wouldn't buy anything over $2500.... As an employer, I would feel guilty walking in with an overly expensive watch while my staff is struggling to put food on the table or make their mortgage. I would rather spend the extra money on rewarding them with bonuses or barbecues or something more tangible in times like these.

·

Grand Seiko. Just don't see the appeal.

·

Panerai and U-Boat are the largest offenders for me outside the usual RM and Hublot. Ugly tasteless hunks of metal in my eyes.

·

Seiko has lost its luster now that Microbrands are available at similar price points.

·

Junghans or really any Bauhaus design watch. I just find them a but dull.

·

AP. Like the movements, but the watches do nothing for me.

·

I have never been interested in a Breitling and I’m not 100% sure why.

You: there are $4000 Seikos?

Me: posts pics of several $4000+ Seikos

No yeah, I meant as in not sure what the point of these seikos, I.e. I agree with your original point given the new (to me) information haha. Who would buy a $4K seiko when you can get a GS heritage spring dial for like $5-6K.. (among other things you can get at that price point), very strange.

I agree in not a great fan of Tudor and find the hand’s awful. I do quite like the Ranger though.

Kinda why I like the North Flag. The hands are more traditional and the watch has some color to it.

I am not a fan of the field watch aesthetic which is why I don’t love the Ranger but I can see why some non-Tudor fans may.

Not so much a brand, but a concept.....don't get cyclopsi. 🤔🤐

#just_say_no_to_crystalwarts 🤪😉

·

Nowadays Rolex, purely because of the silly waitlist

Why would I own a watch with which I can't have any kind of feelings??

You really don't know about a brand until.... Oh, nevermind. If there isn't faint excitement upon seeing it, then maybe its not for you. But it seems awful limiting to totally dismiss a brand without experience. I'm not saying to go buy something you don't like but tastes, as well as economic situations, change over time so what you don't like today, you may find desireable tomorrow.

Let's clear the air here: I don't hate Tudor and I wish the best to those who like the brand and buy their models.

I've seen Tudor watches in the wild, on people's wrists and even in shops. They don't interest me AT ALL so you may decide that the problem is not with the brand but wit me but it still won't change the fact that I find their models depressingly boring and don't intend to become a Tudor's customer.

Tomorrow is tomorrow and maybe in this tomorrow Tudor will decide to revive the North Flag, which was the only model I that thought had a spark of originality, which is probably why it was discontinued.

·

I have to agree....SEIKO. I'm sure they're fine watches, but the brand says "cheap" to me. I saw them all the time in department stores when I was younger and think of them that way; run-of-the-mill department store watches. When Roger Moore's 007 started wearing them, I hated it! 😂 Again, I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade - I guess they are good watches. Maybe even excellent watches. There's an a$$ for every seat...but I just don't care for the brand.

Oh, and Tudor. Again, fine watches, I know. I just don't like the look of em. The snowflake hands look like they were designed just to be different from Rolex. Between the hands and the faux rivets, they're just not my cup of tea.

That's fine. We just simply disagree about the brand and that is fine. I dare say that I probably ruffle a few feathers around hear (also) as I am not a fan of Seiko mechanicals.

·

Citizen. will never buy another. yeah, i know they are cheap, but both broke way too soon. had them both fixed. broke again. tried to love em. never buying again.

don't know too many other brands so I can't give any thoughts on those.

·

I love seiko but the models I have i did extreme research on them to make sure they were the right fit both of the ones I have are pretty accurate and well aligned but I sometimes feel I got lucky

Dials are certainly different. I heard the next dial is based on the wallpaper in the GS head office. 😉

I’m just hoping we get a GS memorializing all the dandelions in my lawn.

·

Casio...big ugly digital watches.... don't get it...

·

Agree with Seiko bewilderment. Frequent complaints about QC as they seemingly raise prices every few months. I have no understanding of the cult of Seiko. Seiko could make a watch that sprayed lemon juice in your eyes everytime you looked at it and people would rush to buy it.

·

Invicta, Sam Martin and the like. Hublot (stay away)

I love GS and regular Seiko dials, but you're right, they can be a bit much with this 'inspired by' cherry blossoms/cobblestones/different Japanese cocktails, etc.
