What Does Your Wife/Partner Think About Your Watch Collection?

Just like the title says! Does your wife/partner bitch and moan about your watch collection and how it just keeps "magically growing?" Does your wife/partner always say things like "But they all look the same?" Does your wife/partner include herself/himself into your watch buying adventures? I am single so I just go on my own as my budget allows.

Sound off in the comments!

To paraphrase Jon Stewart, "She doesn't."

·

We’ve discussed this in a previous thread but the same holds true, “I don’t give her crap about her shoes/purses, she leaves my watches alone”. Ignorance is bliss.

·

We share the same interest, but I have more of the collector's mindset where I feel comfortable buying multiple useless products just because they tickle my fancy. My husband has been perfectly happy for years with one $30 Casio and one Citizen pilot's watch (he actually knows how to operate the rotary slide rule).

·

She likes many of my watches. She hates that I keep buying divers and pilot watches.

·

She is very ambivalent about watches. I frequently ask her opinion on some watches to get an outsider's perspective and her reaction is that I'm testing her and that there is a right & a wrong answer.

She gives me far too much credit for devising tests...

·

She thinks i m looney🤣

·

Mine just lets it go she’ll ask about a new watch, mainly I believe to humour me as I see her eyes glaze over pretty quick, but I think because I stick to affordable brands and have limited myself by the space I’ve got in my one box and 2 winders she’s okay with it.

·

She made me promise her again today no more watches. 😅😆😭

·

She was cool with it, as watches take up significantly less space than my meager collection of guitars … that was until she saw the price tag of some of my as-yet-to-be-acquired grails.

·

My wife got into watches because of me, sometime I think she’s more obsessed than I am, which is good. The con is that she can keep tap on my new purchases 🤣

^^ Exactly. The amount of jewellery that overflows from her box, the shoes, handbags, dresses... and I she's completed her first box of watches too.

I think I'm safe. (So long as she doesn't look them up.)

Just don’t make eye contact when she asks how to pronounce “Jaeger-LeCoultre”

·

She couldn't care less about the watches themselves, but she tries to feign interest a little bit when I talk about them or show them to her. I know she doesn't like any of them and she's a little bit concerned about me spending money on them though...

My partner is incredibly supportive, nearly to the point of enabling, where my watch collection is concerned. She's purchased several very cool and incredibly thoughtful pieces to add to it, as well. After being together for nearly two years, she's starting to be a bit of a watch gal all by herself. Her daily wrist candy is the Invicta in the pic. 😁

·

Can't repeat what she said lol

Cheers!

I've spared no effort in making the hobby fun for her too. We turn watch gatherings and events into mini vacations and she has developed her own taste in watches along the way. There are quite a few women participating in the California watch scene and they warmly engage each other when the opportunity arises. When this hobby stops being fun for us we will embrace the next adventure.

What kind of pods are you listening to?

Two Broke Watch Snobs- Two dudes talk mostly about normal priced watches and the hobby. Very down to earth. Kaz is a self aware dork, and I love him.

40 & 20- Two guys from Eugene OR discuss watches over a beer or two in one of their garages. They usually have a theme they cover such as a certain brand deep dive, movement types, etc.

Wrist Cheese- Brodinki's podcast covers more 'industry' new releases and stuff like that.

The Watchfinder Podast- the same content from the talking hand guy you find on watch finder's youtube channel, but also has a partner to play off. Short & Sweet with average runtime less than 15 min.

·

As many here, apparently, I'm also extremely lucky since my wife not only supports the hobby (as she does with everything else, in fact) but also openly listens whenever I start talking about it, even if it's not something that genuinely interests her.

·

It is generally ignored by my other half.

·

I tried to get her a nice watch but she prefers not to spend more than $500 on a watch. She limits my collection which is good in a way that I don't buy on impulse. 🤣

·

Sadly, I have infected my wife....🤪

She researched and found on her own her last watch, a Tissot Seastar. First time I've ever her seen her regale me with all the nerd facts, pics, pros/cons etc. It was actually really cute to listen to.

Then she spent another week finding her perfect strap, a Barton Tropic 2.0 in white.

WHAT HAVE I DONE!! 💩🫠🤣

·

Gf keeps giving me a look when I told her I was ready to drop money on the Rolex air king

·

That her’s is better overall

·

My wife would love things to magically grow but my watch collection isn't one of them.

·

My wife and I discuss large purchases as we have a life and kids together. That being said when I tell her I want to buy a watch or thinking about getting one, she wants to know how much I wish to spend, and I honestly tell her. I’m a big proponent of delaying gratification I will sit on my thoughts sometimes months or years until I finally pull the trigger. I could have a bigger collection, but neither of us aspire to invest in “stuff”.

·

My lovely wife sits and watches YT channels on watches and feigns interest very sympathetically. She is happy with her three watches but still ooos and ahhhhs over watches on Oisin , Teddy , Adrian, Watch Finder, Tim Mosso & you too PK if your reading . :)

·

My Mrs has a nice collection herself, Hamilton khaki king , SPB147 & Cartier Ballon Bleu. We watch YouTube videos together and often go watch shopping. Wouldn't have it any other way, but dunno if it's a good or bad (ie expensive) thing 😂

I have infected my wife with the watch bug, and now I have to get her an Alpinist she's been wanting. It's a good problem to have though!

·

The watches are "my thing" and she has several of "her things." She just kinda smiles when I show her a new watch, because she really thinks all watches with black dials look the same. 😀We have a wonderful relationship where she has her interests, I have mine, and we have many shared ones.
