Maybe it’s because I never really got into Seiko as part of my watch journey but I have no issue separating the two. I think of it like large car companies that have several levels of offerings with different branding. Or I look at it like I do Swatch; the existence of Swatch watches doesn’t impact my feelings about Omega, etc.
I have the most annoying answer; it depends. I don’t think we should saddle our kids with things they don’t like and now feel obligated to care about. However, I have a single piece of jewelry from two grandparents and my father. I don’t care particularly for the style of any of it but they’re the items I absolutely connect with those people. Plus, they’re small.
Maybe just don’t get too hung up on the plan either way and if your kid finds his own way and if it leads him to one of your watches then give it to him.
If I had to guess there was a pricing or feature discussion relative to Rolex. Being sister companies they likely carefully plan their offerings so that there’s minimal overlap and they aren’t chasing the same dollars. I’m sure Toyota and Lexus have the same mentality or all of the Swatch Group, etc
I’d definitely wear the shirt you will wear for wedding and try them on. See how they work with the cuff of the shirt. Something like a scrunched cuff in a photo you’ll look at for hopefully decades can be wicked annoying.
That said, I’d go with the Speedmaster. I own the SMP and love it but the Speedmaster reads dressier.
