Serica 6190: Denali or California??

Hello fellow crunchers! I’ve had the Serica 6190 tab open for almost a month now, so I feel like I’m almost ready to pull the trigger. The only thing holding me back is the choice between the Denali and California dials. To me, these both look more interesting than the Commando, but when it comes to deciding between the two I find myself flip-flopping back and forth. What are your thoughts/preferences?

(Did some rotating and cropping to try to get some good on-wrist references.)

Update: just pre-ordered the California. Thank you for all of the input! I was initially drawn to the Cali dial, but then started thinking about the Denali. Ultimately, while a bit cluttered, I found the Cali more interesting and felt the Denali, conversely, was a little sparse.

Also, not a fan of how the circular plots visually create more of a linear path between the 12, 3, 6 and 9 positions that doesn’t follow the circular minute track as well as the other dials. This is particularly noticeable in the lume shots on Sericas site.

Again, thank you for all of your insightful (and comedic) comments! Was incredibly helpful, not to just be going back and forth in my own head on the matter.

California dial looks more visually interesting, imo

·

You should've made a poll. I dislike California dials, so that's sorted.

·

I think I prefer a California dial with the Romans on bottom like Nomos does it. Still, I vote California.

·

Cali dial. Beautiful 😍

·

California. The other one looks like they skimped on the numerical indices and is oddly empty.

·

I'll buck the trend & say Denali. California dials are not a plus for me. And this one in particular; a triangle hour narker, two radially aligned marker (3 & 9), one 90 degree aligned marker (6), Romans & then Arabic numerals means 5 different hour markers on one watch. Just... no.

·

I saw these models at WindUp last year. I’d go with the Denali dial 100%, but both look good!

·

Do you care about it feeling original? I'd choose Denali if you care about Serica's unique language design in it's strongest form. Then again, i find the balance of the dial of the California, specially with the text etc, more harmonious

·

I've never been a fan of the California dial in any design. I'd go Denali all day everyday.

·

Never seen one of these - really nice!

·

Denali, but destro

·

Denali. Easy choice for me but I really do not like California dials at all. I will always vote against it.

·

California, no doubt. It’s unique but not ostentatious

·

I love the California, that’s my vote. Just looks more unique than the Denali which is more of a generic field watch look to me.

·

Denali for me

·

Personally I’d get the commando. I think that I’d get bored with the California and the hour markers on the Denali just look wrong.

·

What's the style of this bracelet called?

·

Cali all day, every day! And thanks that I was able to get to know this brand through this thread

·

Denali looks sportier, Cali dial looks cooler. So I guess the question is business or leisure?

Do you want something reserved, practical, more mature? Or do you want something quirky, playful, more youthful?

·

First, thank you for showing me this brand. Second, I would take the California dial, looks a bit more distinct.

Generally I'd say that arabics are the way to go - especially if it's a full arabic dial or they're at the cardinal points but the circular lume pips on the Denali suffocate the dial somewhat imo. The Cali dial looks stunning under lume, has a more open and ordered appearance at a distance and has points of interest and difference close up.

I bought a Cali.

But either way, you're going to be happy. They're really good watches and surprisingly well built.

My opinion is buy with your heart, not your head on this occasion - don't over think it.

Went Cali!

I put in my preorder 2 weeks ago for the California. To me it had that one more point of interest in the dial. Both are great but the California markers tip me over. I can’t wait for it arrive!

I also love the triangle at the 12 (nod to field/pilot) and the dashes at the 3,6,9

·

Denali Destro FTW!

·

I just saw you went with the Cali. You will love it. I have the Cali 4512 TXD and it is just wonderful. Cheers!

Denali Destro FTW!

Didn’t go destro 😅 scared I’d strip the thread trying to screw down the crown with left hand lol

·

You know what, I was worried about that too. To address that, I actually turn the watch around and set the time with 12 o'clock down at the 6 o'clock position instead. Works like a charm. Congrats on the purchase! Hope you love it.

·

I decided on the Denali, but they’re both great.

·

Do we know whether the 6190 has a screw-down crown? I preordered the Denali anyway, but I can’t find anything about this online. I know the 4512 has a screw-down crown and the 6190 has the same case with the same 200m water resistance, so I expect the 6190 to have the same crown. Just surprised that Serica don’t address this on the 6190 product page on their website.

Yes, I can confirm it is still a screw down crown.
