Most overlooked/underrated watches?

Currently writing an article on overlooked watches/collections. I already have everything drafted (Omega De Ville, Rolex Milgauss, Longines Spirit), but I’m curious what you guys think! The site I write for focuses on well known, luxury brands (hence my picks), but I’m sure y'all have some deep cuts I’ve never heard of.

Pictured is my christmas present — a Hamilton Khaki Auto 38mm — by no means overlooked watch. I hope everyone is doing well going into the new year!

I like the rolex dress watches, they're overlooked

My working theory is that any watch that I have heard of or have familiarity with cannot be overlooked. I doubt your list will have any truly overlooked watches by my definition.

In my continuing effort to push watches from the edges:

This is the Slava Ukraini by Pook Watches. It is an overlooked brand.

I'm probably in the minority, but I love the look of the Cellini Time with the black dial, as well as the older Cellini Prince, and agree that they are indeed under appreciated.

100% agree

I think the metallic ceramic round Rado True watches are overlooked. Beautiful and comfortable watches.

I feel that the brand Norqain is under appreciated. I had discovered them when looking through the display case at a small local AD, and was really attracted to their design language. I ended up picking up an Adventure Sport Chrono during a sale event, and absolutely love it (although it is a bit on the large side). Great build quality, but perhaps MSRP is a bit ambitious.

We look forward to your article so we can complain... discuss its merits...  Looking at the line, they don't seem that overlooked as much as less marketed.  Most watch collectors or blog readers would know and appreciate the watches.   Most of these watches are displayed right beside the popular watches as an in stock alternative to out of stock hype watches.

Also I would say within the brands you listed, the watches that are overlooked, seem quite popular.

I would say within the watches you mentioned that are less spoken about, Omega - tourbillon, Longines - Ultra Chron.

Rolex has approximately 14 watches in its collection vs the other brands.  Is the milguass really a sleeper or overlooked, it only has two configurations?  Sure make the arguement, but it is pretty weak based on the numbers.  Is it odd, yes, blue orange and green... the florida gators colors was always fun only if you went to the school... or you like milguasses... like the nerd I am...

Good luck... look forward to the article.

Check the other thread about tag Heuer lol. I think they are quality watches. Maybe grand Seiko? Are they still overlooked?

Also, we need to define overlooked by whom? The public or watch enthusiasts?

The public loves quartz watches. Women love quartz.  Collectors fan girl over mechanics.

Frederique Constant.

That’s an important point — overlooked by whom? My article is geared toward the general public. I came to WatchCrunch to hear from the enthusiasts 😂

I feel like Citizen's not mentioned enough.

·

For me, the brand I think that doesn't get discussed enough is Tutima. Their Seven Seas diver is pretty damn good for the money and now that they have reduced the size to 40mm, it is a much better fit for most people.

I think Rado, Mido and Alpina all need more love and have some excellent offerings for a reasonable price.

I have Tissot auto to give my girl and she’s only had quartz watches and honestly a bit new to watches period.
Will see how it goes as you’re right,  only watch nerds really care about mechanical movements and history and such.
We think we’re all people but are a small group actually.
All the proof you need is Invicta and the watches they sell the most of. The “clown watches” as I call them.
Not their Auto divers which are an excellent value.

Love the question...now for the list of my favorite overlooked watches...even by many members of this knowledgeable community...

I'm going to stick with Swiss brands that have deep heritage, as much or more, as the ones that you are writing about.

Let's start with Anonimo - the original Panerai employees in Florence who were fired when Richemont acquired the brand. They responded by continuing their groundbreaking watch building by naming their company with the slightly humorous Anonimo name. Anonimo was the first to produce the bronze case dive watches that are so popular nowadays - many years before Richemont copied them using the Panerai brand.

The three most popular designs are as follows...

Epurato (dress watch)

Militaire (military chronograph)

Nautilo (dive watch)

Next I would say Titoni...

A Swiss brand with great heritage that actually "survived" the quartz crisis. Here is a link to a more detailed post I wrote about them.

Here is an example of one of their recent heritage chronograph references...

Titoni are mostly known today for their quartz-based watches and are popular in Southeast Asia and Asia.

However, they have really made a push into the serious watch collector space with some of their recent releases like the Seascoper 600 series especially this reference...what a beauty...

And for my last entry, one of the most magnificent overlooked brands...a truly amazing watchmaker that is one of the oldest but least known...even in this community...

Eberhard

I really need to put together an article on Eberhard. Such an amazing brand and fantastic history. I'm still just getting through the excellent book about the company...The Art of Defying Time...

Eberhard & Co.: The Art of Defying Time (Version without showcase)

I have both vintage Eberhard watches and modern references in the collection. Eberhard is a highly prized and collectible brand in Italy (a country of some of the most devoted watch collectors in the world).

Here is one of the more recent Eberhard chronograph references...the 1960s Tribute to the famous...

Here are some gorgeous vintage references...

Two submissions for your consideration:

Tudor 1926

Breitling Premeir (Chronomat if you want to stick to three handers)

·

On the basis of overlooked by general public, but not watch enthusiasts, anything by Oris. Baume and Mercier Riviera.

·

Forever Frederique Constant for me.

Over the years TGV has published videos about Hanhart. He seems to focus on the pilot watches (or Pioneer line as Hanhart calls them). But I'm a sucker for racing chronographs due to my racing background. This German brand is often overlooked but has both true aero and racing pedigree. They're quite affordable coming in at about $3500 or less depending on the size and model.

·

Well, if your article is targeted at the general population and not at watch enthusiasts, then an obvious candidate will be Grand Seiko. This is a brand that gets a lot of respect and admiration but is virtually unknown outside the circles of watch enthusiasts or is dismissed because "it's just a Seiko".

I think Bell and Ross are overlooked due to being slightly unusual
