Biggest Disappointment

Is there a watch you had that didn't live up to the hype, or looked completely different when you unboxed it, or disappointed you for other reasons? But it doesn't have to be all negative. Maybe there was a happy ending. Did you grow to love it, or give it away to someone who might like it? In other words, positive negativity.

I was disappointed by my Seiko SNK809... I fell into the trap of believing the hype about it after watching YouTube reviews. When I got it I instantly disliked it, and quickly went on to buy something much better.

Fortunately, it was a cheap way to learn to not trust other people's opinion on watches.

Omega Speedmaster.

I was bored with it in a few months. Just didn't click.

·

Rolex OP. Dumped within a year, and 9 months of that spent within its box.

·

Casio Royale AE-1200.

It was an impulse sale purchase. Not really that big a fan of the layout. I tried to swap straps and give it a chance but I still don't really like It. I basically use it to set all my other watches to now. Just not for me.

·

SKX, Moonwatch, BB58.

·

Casio F-91. Cheap, boring and disposable.

·

Same… I just figured out I don‘t like Titanium in general. I bought a San Martin SN0111T now for vacations and stuff and because it appears way lighter and much more like steel… Let‘s see when it comes in.

I bought and sold the Speedy 5x now… I think for me it‘s more that I‘m not a chrono guy though.

A very inexpensive dissapointement (:

·

Baltic MR01 - it's an affordable watch, yet even at retail, I feel like it's overpriced and I got less than what I paid for.

·

Yes

·

Every watch I ever bought with a native Chinese movement. They are crap unless you service them later.

·

I didn't buy it, but I set out to do so until I put it on my wrist. That's the Zenith Defy Classic. It wore huge on me and it was just not nearly as cool looking in person as I thought it would be looking at pictures and videos online.

  • I saved up to buy a Panerai Luminar the older 40mm size

  • I was so excited to receive it , it was the watch that was going to be THE ONE

  • Until it wasn't which turned out to be the case once I wore it for a week or so

  • On the bright side I sold the bad boy and purchased a Ulysses Nardin San Marco (one of the greatest watches I ever owned)

·

Mine was not a purchase, but a gift. Several years ago Lufthansa offered me a watch because I helped with an in-flight medical emergency (patient ended up OK).

I had two choices: a Luminox military style on a NATO or a Bering solar titanium. I chose the latter because I had had a Luminox in the past that lost the bezel when I was snorkeling.

The Bering was a disappointment. The hands were not aligned and the bracelet was so-so. The Luminox would have been a better choice.

·

Not yet really. But it's still time as I have not bought a SEIKO yet 🤔🤫😎

I loved that watch so much I had it in two colors. When you got it for $60 several years ago, it was great. For the $200 they want for it now that its discontinued? Not a chance.

I paid under $100, but I was still disappointed. It's hyped so much, but just left me cold... Taste is a personal thing, I know some people love them, but I hated mine.

SKX, Moonwatch, BB58.

I never had an SKX either, and I have 12 bread and butter Seikos. It looks okay, but has a 7s26 and I never could figure out the hype. The only one I liked was the seldom seen orange one.

I have the blue one, SNK807(?) It's not a good watch, but I love its dial, and if I like the dial, I let the watch get away with almost everything.

The Christopher Ward Twelve. I received the Ti model the other day and within the first 2 minutes it shaved my wrist. That thing pulls arm hair with authority... it's a shame because it is such a nice looking watch 😭

I have never experienced anything like it. Not even close. I took a picture as the pulling was easily repeatable 😉 or maybe I have just soft and weak arm air.

I think it's because the links don't articulate and when remove the watch the regions where the links touch start grabbing arm hair like pliers.

Nobody else does this, but I shaved the area of my wrist where my watches sit so my old-school little Seiko 5s with their cheap sparkly folded link bracelets that I love couldn't rip my hair off.

Casio AE-1200 and Seagull 1963.

I love seeing pictures of the Casio so I bought one to "replace" my F-91W, but despite the decent strap length, it's not as comfortable. I grew to like it very much and I wear it often, though, but it's nothing like my DW-5600 in terms of comfort and pleasure to wear.

The Seagull is the first watch I bought after getting interested in mechanical watches. I loved it instantly! But in the two weeks I had it, it randomly stopped twice (with more than enough energy left from the winding) and the chrono seconds hand wasn't resetting to zero exactly. So I returned it and I still want one...!

I’ve got the Pepsi 009 and the orange 013. At least my wife likes to wear the orange one when she wears fall colours. LOL

I stopped wearing mine mostly because I love big tacky 70's watches. Oddly enough I gave one to the biggest tech guy I know, and he thinks its great. Never got him to wear a watch before...........

I buy my Chinese watches with Seiko (SII) NH35s in them. Never have issues.

·

Damn 🙂 couple such bracelets can be glued together and probably be used instead of wax in depilation procedures

Haha you are not wrong. I am pretty sure that wearing it for a week would leave me with a hairless spot where the watch sits.

Omega Speedmaster.

Same here. Didn't buy it but was already 4 times at AD trying it on. On paper it should be great but when I saw it in person and tried on my wrist all the magic was gone. Bland design, large and thick case, mediocre bracelet... Another one was Railmaster, what a poor looking watch ( except the movement ) for 5k. And last one was Aquaterra, had it for 3 months and sold it onwards. Seems like an occuring theme with Omega but is really not as I like many of their watches ( 1957 releases especially, Constallation ). The Seamaster line is totally off for me, many things I don't like ( hands, He escape valve, AR coating on top, bezel design ... ).

Im not an impulse buyer so i generally dont regret... each of my watches has uses, so i like to rotate them. That said, keeping up the batteries on Quartz watches can be a bit bothersome so i have been buying solar watches lately...

Here's a subject I can't get many people interested in. Why are there no solar powered mecha-quartz watches? This would solve the two problems associated with quartz watches, namely battery changes and the ticking second hand. Is it physically impossible in 2023 to make a three-hander solar mecha-quartz watch?

I shave that part of my arm. (I really do.) You shouldn't leave that to your CW. Although a combination wristwatch/shaver seems like a no-brainer for someone like Braun.

Haha, yeah it would be cool if it was a Braun. Maybe that is a secret collab, ChrWard x Gillette 😉 or maybe they are getting into razors next.

I sadly returned the watch. As it seems sold out now and I haven't even removed any of the stickers on the clasp they can surely sell it on right away and hopefully make someone happy who would otherwise be waiting for his watch until the next batch.
