If you were designing a watch with your name (or your WatchCrunch name) on the dial, what would that watch look like?

We're all starting watch companies, and our name has to be on the dial. What would we want our first watch to look like? What features would it have? I'm thinking nobody on this site is named Seiko or Rolex or International Watch Company but I guess we'll find out.

It would be a 2 tone 47mm Radiomir champagne dial with diamond markers on a mesh bracelet 🤣

·

It would look more like a fashion/micro conversation time piece for sure.

This was fun.

My WC name is a Pokemon reference for the main character Ash Ketchum (Sarcastic Pokemon explanation at the end).

Boldr already made Pokemon watches here: https://www.boldrsupply.co/collections/pokemon

I wanted a Diver so I ripped off my own Namica Neo-Tokyo design & used the iconic pokeball design.

Explanation of Pokemon for those who don't know/don't care haha:

A 10 year kid who leaves home on a journey to basically catch / collect / enslave various monsters by trapping them in a pokeball which looks like a red and white baseball sized prison. He then forces them to fight other trainer's enslaved monsters until they "faint".

Totally a kids show that expanded into a worldwide empire of trading cards, TV shows, movies & videogames.

It would have to look like a sports chronograph complete with a tachymeter. Inside the dial for a vintage feel. Hand wound, and 39-40mm circumference but at most a 49mm lug to lug. I’d love to have a column wheel but will happily go with a horizontal cam (my daily and grail use this). What would make mine different from the rest would be its color options. While I love black and white, I’d go with burgundy or royal blue as options with the sub dials being black. My surname would be on the dial. The hands would be pencil shaped with applied baton markers. Lume would be plain white for the base model but the for a little more all markers and hands would have tritium tubes. This is just for my amusement. WR would have to be 10 Bar!

Awesome.

A modernised Flieger style watch with a secondary LCD display that shows a 6-character UTC date and time set (ie 221305 for 1:05pm on the 22nd) and two or three vibrating alarms.

Probably a bit niche 🤣

·

I'd go for asymmetric 50s / 60s designs with modern specs.

Maybe a bit niche, but I'm guessing there are some Casios that work some of this territory. But you would also be bringing the modernised Flieger style to the table, unlike Casio (or anybody?)

Maybe not exactly like that (just mashed some internet pictures together based on the Alpinist case without the second crown) but along those lines. Kind of a dressy toolwatch, jack of all trades, ~38 mm (36?), 100m of WR, meca-quartz, sunburst dial. Clean dial but not too empty, equally wearable on strap or a bracelet. Now I see that I didn't add my name on it, but it would probably be somewhere on the bottom, near the WR rating, bit of an afterthought though, the logo is much better 😉

Now that is interesting. And I'm also a fan of older designs with modern specs. There's something to be said for the purist approach, but classic older designs with modern specs are the best of both worlds.

You've thought about this already? I can almost see this watch from your description. This could be a real contender. Interesting mechanicals combined with very distinctive dial.

I'm seeing a cleaner, less blingy Alpinist here. Interesting that yours would be meca-quartz. I prefer quartz myself, and would really like to see somebody do a solar meca-quartz. I like the Alpinist myself, but this design of yours seems more suited to the everyday real world than the Alpinist does.

Yeah it’s been something on my mind for a bit 😅. I’m glad I was able to paint enough of a picture for you to see it! Thank you!

·

My watch, the Samdeatton 1, would look like this.

39mm, 100M WR. Sapphire, solar meca-quartz movement. Case would be either blasted stainless steel or really tough Casio-style plastic. There would be a bi-directional friction bezel useful for timing everyday events that don't occur underwater (this watch is not a diver). The dial would be incredibly sharp and legible but not the least bit blingy (think Seiko SNK809). Date complication but no day. Good usable lume. Rubber or resin strap with lots of holes for a good fit for everyone. And the price? $195.

What's really interesting here is that I think this look would appeal to many who don't know or care much about Pokemon, although I find it hard to believe anyone not living in a hole could have been completely oblivious of Pokemon in its heyday. Impressive artwork too on your part. I'm glad you enjoyed it and hope some of the other guys will too.

I like the "Fashion Watch" look. I think it can be loosely applied to any big dial, slim case watch. For example, I have a Tissot and a couple of Casios that fit this description, and I think they look just great.

I think Daniel Wellingtons have a good look. But they are cheaply made and horribly overpriced. My beautiful polished steel and sapphire Tissot Everytime Large costs less than a DW, and my two "fashion watch" Casios are just a fraction of the cost.

That's a really interesting idea that you propose.

I can't quite visualize it, but I know it would be really sharp.

You so right about the Daniel Wellingtons There’s nothing impressive. Tissot is a whole another level no doubt on that. Now how about this This new design built watch let’s say be like fashion style decently made a kind cool slick like a Swatch style design like 39-42mm 30WR artsy design and way better and cheaper than DW for sure. quartz movement for a starter. Just some ideas I do think if some of us here would sit down round table each person come up with ideas a new watch be made.
