Nice thorough review of a very nice looking watch. I'm a big fan having owned a 1521 for almost 5 years and still feel it is the prettiest dive watch ever.
However, I think your history is off by quite a bit. The original Squale cases date back to the late fifties, and the making of their own dive watches began in the early sixties.
Both exquisite watches I'd like to have.
Question re IWC:
Why do you need lume on all the markers? Is it hard to read as is?
Why do you think IWC being one of the original 5 fliegers is a con?
It's a common misconception that the Santos was the first watch made for a man or that it was the first tool watch. It is neither. I've found in two separate sources that the German government contracted GP to make watches for its naval officers in the 1880s, though none are thought to exist. There were also some specially made watches for men in that period. It's still the first known aviation watch and, of course, made for Alberto Santos Dumas, a famous Brazilian (who lived in France most of his life) early aviator. He flew around Paris in his balloon before he worked on airplanes.
Thanks again for the interesting comparison!👌
