Are deployment clasps on straps an annoyance or a good design?

I usually don’t see that many people actively preferring a leather or non metal strap with a deployment clasp. Usually the case is if it’s there it’s there and they won’t change it, but how many of us actively seek one out? I personally love them (especially the Omega/Tag Heuer style fold over) since it hides excess length under the clasp and keeping it cleaner without minder loops. I got some cheap ones off aliexpress and they’re not that bad for the price. What do you guys think?

I love the Omega-styled deployant clasps… I’ve put them on several of my watches now. I think they keep the straps in cleaner/better condition than a traditional buckle. I am not fond of butterfly-styled clasps though, so not all are created equal for me. The only drawback is I enjoy doing flat-lay photo shots occasionally which as accessible.

I prefer a simple buckle, it keeps the bulk down. Leather straps are a consumable, plan to replace them occasionally.

I also think shoes, and other leather products look far better when worn-in rather that factory fresh, so that impacts my opinion on watch straps too.

Deployant clasps all the way. I too prefer the Omega style tuck/fold-over clasps and have my 2 of my watches set up that way via Artem straps and hardware.

I also have a few Richard Mille style butterfly clasps that rely on a spring leaf to keep it closed. Very, very compact for a butterfly clasp so it’s not as noticeable when resting your wrist against the desk. RM style on lower right, standard butterfly on lower left.

Here is the thread that goes along with the watch meme...

The deployant clasp just adds bulk under the wrist and makes it uncomfortable for me. I don't see any benefit.

·

Got a Tudor one, don't use it as I find it way too bulky & the curve of the metal is wrong for my wrist. Pin & buckle all the way for me !

·

The Ari whatever guy from A Blog to Watch wrote about these a while back, and I am in his camp on this. Why would you take the most uncomfortable and chunky part of a bracelet and slap it on, or rather under, a supple leather band? To preserve an expendable part by adding an additional expense? It's another form of grandma's vinyl slipcovers on the furniture ("this is too nice for us to enjoy").

Apologies to arthritic people with bad vision, but have you considered an expansion band?

Voted for deployant clasp. I have one on my GO Senator and really like it. Set it once for correct size, slip & click and done. It's also very comfortable. Due to the particular construction of a deployant clasp I can readily imagine though that if the execution is less than perfect (or shape of clasp and wrist misalign) it can be very annoying / much less comfortable than a standard buckle & pin. Which I have on my other watches and am fine with as well. So, if i can try the watch on & the fit is right: prefer deployant. Ordering online: buckle & pin/tang safest option.

I prefer deployant clasps

·

I wasn’t sure about them at first but after I got one and realised how comfortable they are and how good they are at keeping your strap in great shape I was converted. Absolutely love them!

·

I voted for but only when done right.

·

It depends on the clasp. I have one on my Cartier and Bathyscaphe but I removed it from my Octo. It depends on the design and the length of the short end of the strap relative to your wrist.

·

Deployant clasps save strap wear, bacically extending the life of the strap.

·

Yes on deployant clasps on leather straps. This is my one set for my ‘57 Speedmaster. Got the leather strap the very next week of purchasing the watch and the AD showed me this Omega strap and deployant. The answer was, yes please. Loving the whole look and function all the time. 😎😃

There is no such thing as a "deployment" clasp. N00B!! 🙄😝😂

I would like to have all my leather straps with deployant clasp Omega style. I love that the curved part of the clasp seats in between the strap.

I have a very slender wrist, most often than not, I use the last hole on strap and the buckle usually digs into my skin. I have bought clasps from AliEx in past. I have read that Formex deployant clasp are quite good, but they are expensive. Are there other ones?

I love the Omega deployment clasp. One of my key considerations when buying anything with a strap. Out of my eleven Omega's, two are vintage with the pin buckle & two are on bracelets. The balance, the other seven? Yup, all deployments.

It's a clean, refined look. No extra strap material or keepers hanging out there.
