What measurements matter the most to you when it comes to wearability?

I recently had the chance to wear a Planet Ocean Ultra Deep for a day and it honestly surprised me in terms of wearability for such a monster of a diver. The key takeaways when wearing it are the very short lug to lug measurement despite the 46mm size, and the relatively “thin” case back even though the watch is almost an inch thick.

I personally think case back thickness is my biggest determining factor for how wearable a watch is. My No Time to Die has a thinner case back and crystal compared to the regular 300M diver making it more stealthy on the wrist.

Even compared to the standard 43mm Planet Ocean, I would much prefer the Ultra Deep since the regular PO has a decently thick case back and crystal even though it only measures 16mm thick in total. See through case backs usually are on the thicker side but some manage to fit it in without compromising the aesthetic with the thickness.

What do you guys think when wearing new watches? What’s the first thing that comes to mind with the dimensions?

This is a tough one because there is no one right answer. As a rule of thumb, I tend to ignore anything over 48MM L2L, but I have plenty of examples of 50mm watches fitting great due to case design. Ditto for diameter. A 42mm with a bezel, cool. 42 with no bezel? Looks massive. Again, based on design.

The one item that is hard to hide regardless of case design is thickness, so have to go with that by default.

It’s really a combo of all. Case size can be 44mm which I would say is too big for me but with certain watches it works due to small L2L and or thickness.

I usually do start by looking at case size, then L2L and then thickness, if I was to give them and order

If it’s not under my max L2L, I can only admire from afar.

I have 7.25" wrists but they're very wide across (narrow cross-section I guess?) so I have no problem wearing 52mm lug-to-lug. Thickness is a comfort thing for me which plays a primary role.

Very tough... but I would probably have to go with lug to lug, maybe second to that general diameter. Ideally, the best way is just to try it on, wearability can be super unique with some watches!
