What is the magnitude of difference between your most expensive and cheapest watch?

I figured this number would be an interesting statistic to survey about our watch collections, as it could hint at a type of taste or collecting strategy without having to be transparent or embarrassed about all the money we’ve spent in this hobby. Please don’t share actual prices!

Currently, my most expensive watch is 200x more expensive than my cheapest watch. Interestingly, both are from Japan. Both watches are likely to be polarizing, but I’ll share them eventually. I’ve even left a little clue somewhere in this post. # cough cough.

In the past, I’ve had more of a balanced cost between watches (a couple of my previous watches in the above picture). But over time, I grew to appreciate and acquire both significantly cheaper and also a slightly more expensive pieces. I honestly still see the validity in collecting either way. I firmly believe in the “you do you” philosophy of watch collecting.

It’s up to you whether you come up with the magnitude number using the retail price or purchase price. Or you can even be a clever and say it was ♾️ if one was a gift (math joke). Feel free to share more details that make it interesting if you want. You can even attach a picture of one of them to keep us guessing about the other! 🤤

Not so extreme, cheapest is a Sturmanski Gagarin (£300ish) and my most treasured I paid £3500 for (used SM300).

Must admit tho, the Omega does get a lot more use . 🙄🤣

·

12 times. Citizen cosmotron $250 and Zenith El Primero ($3500) considering current price

·

I went on a search for the bottom for a while. Functional quartz watches can be bought for $2.00 CDN that last for a few years. I can build a Swiss Ronda powered quartz GMT watch from a $10.00 gas station watch for a total of less than $60.00. new NH35 sapphire builds for under $100.00 CDN. NH34 GMT $120.00 CDN. The point is you can build it cheaper than retail and get it the way you want it.

Huh? Sorry but does it matter?! I’m not a fan of these type of posts … show me your expensive and least expensive watches type of post…

We are all collectors with obsessions, cost of the watch is irrelevant at most times cuz we all figure out on how to attain the watches we want!! So who cares the ranges …. Argh!! I f@cking need. More coffee … I’m getting irritable !!

Agreed! Thank you.

My cheapest watch is a vintage Timex that I got at a flea market. My most expensive is Omega Globemaster Annual Calendar. So, the difference is 1700x. I like both of them and I wear them only on special occasions.

·

I was specifically told , when I joined here over 2 years ago, that there would be no math.

Is my Rolex ok as a GADA? Asking as I have absolutely no concept of tact.

·

My vintage Constellation that was around 2 grand and my drugstore Timex Indigo that ran under 40 bucks if memory serves.

·

275x difference ($40 and $11k)

·

About 50x ( Casioak and UN )

·

$20 Timex and a Daytona, you do the math on that one…

·

7x. Christopher Ward versus G-Shock. The day I buy a GS this multiple will be up significantly.

Or the seller ripped themselves off.

·

If we're talking what I've paid, we're looking at a difference of about 175 USD. If we look at actual value, that figure goes up to >1000 USD.

Worth as much as a collector is willing to pay, likely >1000 USD.

600 times. Casio World Timer and Rolex Batgirl.

·

725x. Casio F91W and Rolex Explorer.

·

About 2.5x. $50 to $130.

Vostok - Zissou <--> Rolex - Sky Dweller. I am too stupid to do the math...
