Choosing a dial

Hi, I want to hear others' opinions to explore different perspectives although they may not affect my outcome. But I have decided to get this longine model as my first luxury watch but I cannot decide between the blue or white dial.

The blue to me seems more classy and luxurious as it shines and gives a bit of colour to a black suit. The hour markers also give off a bit extra shine. I love the shade of blue used.

The white one I have been told by a few people that it is the classier of the 2 colours (idrk what class is so maybe it is, I’d like to know which you would say is classier). I love the textured dial as well and it is amazing to look at. White is a more versatile colour and can easily be used casually. I’m not a huge fan of the text hour markers. And as I do plan on using these watches on the straps as well, I love this white on the brown strap much more than the blue on the blue strap.

I think the main deciding factors to me are:

• Which one would people rather have as a milestone watch?

• Which watch is harder to find a cheaper alternative to? Is the shiny blue harder to make than the textured white?

• Which watch is more timeless?

  1. for me its the blue
  2. probably textured white because of the unique pattern
  3. both

Hmmm. Any dial other than white or black needs to be seen in person or blindly trusted, sometimes to a fault. Id vote white because of those heated blue hands, and because I have no idea how that blue renders in real life and light. It sure looks stunning on picture.

·

I love blue dials, but some dials in white are just great, this is one of those, the blue hands work too. So, white.

·

Blue is my favorite color; thus, I have blue dialed watches. However, I like the white dial between your choices. As consolation, it does have blue hands.

·

Nothing wrong with the blue, but the white is simply easier to read at a glance.  Also, that textured dial is sharp.

·

Definitely get what you like. Personally, I love blue dials. However, some watches just look good in white. Longines has a “Big Eye” Chronograph, which has a stunning blue dial (they call it “petroleum“) which is textured. It just works. This watch looks great in blue, but in my opinion, in blue it reminds me of an IWC. That’s definitely not a bad thing - IWC are amazing watches. In white, I feel like this watch is in its element - particularly if you are interested in dressing it up. When I bought my Tank XL, I got it as a dress watch, and specifically because of the silver-white dial. If you look at other higher-end makers, many of their dressiest pieces also feature light dials. The Saxonia, Calatrava, and the Patrimony have white dials on the dressier expressions of those pieces. It’s definitely not a rule, though. Also, consider that white tie and jacket is considered more formal. But, these are archaic rules, and you can do whatever you want these days. I mean, I literally don’t think anyone besides the most hardcore watch+style enthusiast will care that you wore a watch of any style to a formal event (during an era when a reasonable amount of Americans still either knew or cared about such things, Hollywood still chose to put a Sub on James Bond’s wrist - on a {clutch the pearls} NATO strap, no less!). Most people today won’t even notice the watch, and even fewer would know what to say (style-wise) in those circumstances anyway. So… unless you live at Downton Abbey, and you have footmen and a valet calling on you regularly, do what pleases you, and don’t listen to any of us. You do what makes you happy. 😊

·

Easy buy both 😂 !! that’s what I will do 😛

·

For me, my favorite color is blue and I always prefer a blue dial to a white dial for most watches. For this specific watch, I think the blue can be dressed down with lots of different NATO-style strap colors or dressed up with leather (brown would be beautiful). Whereas, to me, the white comes across as more of a dress/classier watch which I wouldn’t really be able to dress down but would dress up and pair with leather straps. So I personally think the blue dial in this case is more versatile. But you do you! Congrats on the purchase!

·

id go with the white for this one

·

If it were my money?  Blue.

The chopped off hour numerals at 3-6-9 on the white dial aren't to my taste.

·

I'll always take a darker (blue, green, gray, black) dial over a white one. You seem to like the blue over the white, so I'd say you should ignore any adivice to the contrary.

·

Depends on how you want to use the watch, but it’s hard to get classier than blued steel hands.  Here’s a non-rendered picture of something similar to that piece in white from my collection:

For dials, the first thing I look is the contrast and legibility followed by the texture. Although the blue sunburst is nice, it can't beat the white barley corn dial which has more depth. I'm also ok with the numbers but as someone mentioned earlier, not too pleased with the chopping. Despite those shortcomings, I would still choose the white as it is more classic looking. But hey that's just me 😁Happy hunting!!

·

Btw the two the white dial seems classier and traditional. I recommend trying both on and you decide for yourself.

·

Blue is my favorite color but on this I would take the white. Longines watches always look better in white.

·

I've tried on that watch and white several times and loved it. The blue is nice, but I would not hesitate to pull the trigger on the white. It would make a great milestone watch.

·

If it were for me, I'd get the white.

·

Id go blue here. However I’d also take into account - what does my current colllect have? Too many white dials? Too many blue? No textire dials? Ect…

·

I typically lean towards blue.  In this case, I prefer the textured white dial.

·

You will know once you try both on . I have blue watches . In this case the white is more timeless and legible .

·

Tough one, I prefer the colorway on the white dial, the blued hands look awesome but I am not a fan of the implementation of the date window and the 6 just being cut off so I am gonna say I prefer the blue.

·

How is your sight?

If you are young and have great sight, go with the white, especially on this texture. I had this piece 20 years ago and I loved it. Once I hit 40 it became hard to read without my glasses so I sold it.

·

White is definitely more iconic as a “classic” watch, & in most cases, it’s the one to base others off of. In this case though, the white seems too busy & cramped with the numbers being cut into & usung actual numerals in requires more space on the face.
The blue is classier looking & not stepping on itself filling the space with the same inset dials.
I’d take blue all the way, but it’s a nice choice to have to make ;)

·

You wont go wrong with either one.

The White dial has a more classics look due to the number. But i dont like the partial number for 3, 6 and 9.

The blue one the other hand have baton indexes which result in a more modern and playful look. The steel maker and hands in the blue dial may give you problem telling time in certain lighting

Another thing to consider is your age group.

·

I prefer the white, but if you prefer the blue dial, then get the blue dial.

·

Go for the white dial because the contrast will work well as you get older and strain to look at the dial. 😄

·

Great pick on the watch! I think white is more ‘Classic’ or dare I even say ‘classy’ than the blue. The blue looks more sporty, even youthful almost. If it was me I’d buy the white.

·

The blue, it just pops. Both are very beautiful watches, I am a sucker a lovely blue watch and this one looks very attractive and yet not over done.

·

100% white.

·

That guilloche on the white is gorgeous, and the blued hands are 👌. That being said, the blue looks richer and I think I prefer the batons indices over the arabics of the white, the stylized numerals make it feel… dated but not vintage? If that makes sense?

In either case, that is a truly beautiful timepiece, and I doubt you’ll regret whatever choice you end up making.

EDIT: Upon further thought, I think if the white were on a strap, rather than a bracelet, it would edge out the blue. For me, that “dated but not vintage” disconnect might be due to the modern looking bracelet. A fine leather strap seems to fit the classy looks so much better, IMO.
