Women’s watches on Men

I might get some pushback in the comments for this but men should not be afraid of wearing smaller watches. I’ve seen a lot of posts with people saying 36 and under is too small to wear and woman’s watch. This watch is a woman’s watch and I have a 7 inch wrist and feel great wearing it and it looks pretty good. Many prominent male figures have worn small dainty watches. Muhammad Ali standing at 6’3 236 pounds wore a small Cartier Tank and made it work. I get if you’re 6’6 giant and with huge wrist but the average joe on watch forums has a 6-7inch wrist that any watch looks good on. I am taking a stand against small watches being feminine! If you have a 6.5 inch wrist and refuse to wear a 36mm watch because it’s too small please reconsider. It might take getting used to but they should not be called women’s watches or feminine or too small. Watches when they were first being produced were made in smaller case sizes like 34mm. Most brands are moving to smaller cases and I’m here for it. Would love to hear opinions in the comments as to why you can’t wear a small watch.

It's not the size it's the style ..

36 mm Rolex Explorer has been referred to by quite few guys on forums as a women’s watch. Same thing with the BB54 and those are sports watches. I’m talking about small watches as a whole not just their case design.

It shouldn’t even be a discussion anymore, a watch is a watch, wear what you find to be comfortable or don’t.

I don’t buy into labeling a watch, is a 911 a lady’s car because it is smaller, I’ve been told mine is or that my Boxster is hair dresser’s car. I love it and think it’s gorgeous. It also handles and rides better than 99% of other cars out there. That’s what I’m here for and enjoy along with the precision build and engineering (not much difference than watches).

I mention the above because we need to move past and just not comment at that point. Also, you can still like, enjoy, or appreciate and find a watch interesting for other reasons just like a 911. Maybe the size of the car or watch doesn’t do it for you, but maybe the engineering, the design, the aesthetic appeal floats your boat. Why does size or the label of a ladies or men’s watch or hell, don’t call it unisex either, call it a watch matter!

I don’t have to blow smoke up anyone’s rear, but if you get joy out of something then I’m all for it and support you. I think that’s cool, way cooler than getting a watch in a size you feel uncomfortable wearing or because it implicates a historical stereotype.

If you like your watch and it’s 27mm or 47mm keep on keeping on👍🏻

Just because, here’s my 31mm on my roughly almost 7” wrist.

It's thanks to awful 70's and 80's fashion that 38mm+ watches gained popularity. Large watches belong to the age of chunky chains bare chests and medallions flared trousers and platform shoes. 😜

I’m with you! I’d not buy one, but I love Piaget’s women’s watches.

Mother of pearl dial, hand woven white gold bracelet, diamonds set like a laurel wreath on the bezel like a Greek statue…

They go to town! No expense spared.

Have at it! No problem with size. That watch isn't for me. Looks sweet on your wrist though.

Enjoy your watch!

Cheers

Agree, but you'll find no diamonds on those boys watches lol.

Yup.

I'd also echo what @Inkitatus said.

Not the size, but the style for me. I'm not wearing a shamrock shaped, diamond bregeut watch. Even if it was 39.5 and 20mm lugs.

YMMV.

I wear a 36mm Lorier Falcon frequently and a 34 mm Wolbrook Worldtimer less so now that Mrs. SolidYetti has claimed it.

Unless Invicta issues a 28mm #custodesspecial, by now a lot should now what will happen...👀🤏🏻

I love smaller watches. All of those above are less than 34mm in diameter with the smallest round one being my Cyma at 30mm. That Camy is also rather small at 20mm × 40mm.

I'm totally with you.

To your point-

I bought this some years ago because my father had the exact watch back in the 70's. It is called the Spaceview Jumbo, but we called it "Dads giant watch"

It is 38mm.

Watches 👏don't have 👏genitals 👏

People educated in the matter can argue what it means to be a man, woman, or the rest, but when it comes to our ticking wallet-leeches, it doesn't matter. At all.

That clover looks pretty.

Wallet leeches. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤑🤑🤑🤑

The most basic thing to say is, if you like it, wear it. What I can't buy into is the fanaticism that usually goes hand in hand with this topic. Like I say, if you like it, wear it. But the way this gets pushed on everyone else, ad infinitum (check how many threads there already are about it here), makes it feel like people are trying to convince themselves as much as anyone else. "This is OK isn't it, fellas? Fellas?" Again, if you like it, go for it. But a lot of people like watches to be more proportional, not only to their wrists, but bodies too.

That looks amazing on your wrist. I agree with the sentiment of wear what you want but small watches get a lot of hate for no reason.

To be fair - I think big watches get a lot of hate for no reason too (I wear everything from a 34mm Tag F1 to a 44mm Seiko Sumo Solar GMT).

Well, it’s kinda the same reason in both directions: people not understanding that fashion is personal and ever changing, and what’s right for one isn’t right for another, and vice versa. There is no “sweet spot” for everyone and every taste - just what’s right for someone in that instance.

Wear what you like. Small watches are more comfortable and you can find amazing value with vintage if you can take that proplof ❤️off your wrist for a day or two

·

You do you…and I’ll do me. I want a bigger watch.

·

The more a watch look like it goes over a space suit the better I like it. Can't stand "ladies" watches. I have to put my 214 Bulovas on Bund straps to wear them at all. Its all part of my "Don't wear anything you can't climb a tree in" initiative that has served me well these last 60 years or so.

·

I happily go as low as 30mm, and I have a slightly below average wrist. I own a few women's watches, but style can be an issue, not just for manly males. There is a reason why so many women's watches go for next go nothing on ebay.

·

I like 36mm watches, but there is a big difference between a small watch and a woman's watch

·

I think watch enthusiasts don’t have an issue with smaller watches at all, in fact it’s the opposite. Brands like Baltic and Studio Underdog sellout almost immediately. However in my personal opinion this particular watch is designed for the ladies in mind. I’ve asked my wife, sister and female friends and they all agree. I don’t know maybe it’s just me, does anyone else agree with me? This is my personal opinion of course you are free to wear whatever you like as long as it makes you happy 🙏

Almost ALL of my vintage 40’s , 50’s and even 1960’s watches are small compared to modern watches of today but I I still love the style and elegance of them !
