Are you an enthusiast if you stick to Quartz?

I've been into watches since I can remember. Some designs just don't make it to differing movements and simultaneously, other movements can be cost prohibitive.

You can have a 9F Grand Seiko, a Cartier Tank quartz, a vintage Omega Seamaster Polaris and a Breitling Endurance Pro and have an absolute killer collection just with 4 quartz pieces. That sounds quite the watch enthusiast collection to me.

If you feel quartz suits your tastes better, just collect quartz and have fun with it!

That’s the beauty of this passion. There’s something for everyone. I have a friend who is solely focused on Bluetooth Atomic, another is a collector obscure Swiss brands I’ve never heard of. Some only want Quartz, some don’t really like Quartz. Collect what you’re passionate about and post as many pictures as you can.

Absolutely

Still enthusiasts, just more practical and good with changing batteries lol

100%. No rules if Quartz watches light your fire. If you get excited to buy them and own them, that's all you need to know if you are an enthusiasts. The cool thing about Quartz, is it opens up a huge range of really nice looking watches at a much more affordable price. I own just as many quartz as automatics and I love them just the same. For me, it's really about the dial and if the watch resonates with me.

Quartz is a flavor. Anyone who says "only X" or "only Y" is blatantly ignorant and self-limiting by definition.

I just can't understand how a watch enthusiast can't like mechanical movements. 450 years of history compared to 50. Yes quartz are significant but they are only a small part of horology.

·

I can't help but think that if the question were reversed (replace quartz with automatic) that the results would be very different. Can't do it now that this poll is out, but just thinking.

·

Of course, I consider myself a watch enthusiast but I’ve never owned an automatic in my life. I think quartz technology is objectively better than automatic technology no matter how you slice it. They’re more accurate, not susceptible to magnetism, have power reserves measured in years and are generally more hardy. Oh and they’re cheaper too.

Does that mean I hate automatic watches? Not at all, I have never owned one because I only recently got back into watches and I am still trying to find my “look”. And doing so with quartz watches is just much more wallet-friendly than doing it with autos. I will 100% get an automatic in the future.

I think a good analogy is you can be a car enthusiast and not hopelessly fall in love with the Ford Model T. I think no sane person will say the Model T’s engine is better than the current Ferrari’s just because it’s older. How are watch movements any different? 🤷🏻

I love my quartz watches the same as my mechanical and automatic ones, but i try to buy less of them or at least solar powered cause battery changes are annoying, there is always one in my collection that is dead....

This is why I love WC

Quartz absolutely whooped Automatics ass historically and forced the Swiss to make them too. Of course it’s legit.

·

A quartz watch is still a watch, right?

·

Quartz will always have a place, anyone who says otherwise is out of their mind

·

Lifestyle and budgets are HUGE considerations in our lives. Only in the last 10 years or so have I been able to afford automatics. But the sports and outdoor activities that dominate my day the quartz /digital watch is just vastly superior. And they are just so affordable!

You can probably tell which one is not gonna go out with me to split firewood😎

Absolutely for enthusiast as well! Seiko Tuna Quartz 7C46 made exclusively inhouse for the Tuna. Very accurate and will last 5 years despite having to power those huge steel hands.

·

Why people are so into automatic watches when quartz watches offer superior accuracy and convenience? Changing a battery every three years is a simple 5 minute task, whereas winding automatic watches is much more time consuming. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.

There is significantly more fine crafting and engineering that goes into many mechanical and automatic movements. Everything has its pros and cons, only acknowledging something's cons is incredibly dismissive.

I didn’t realize the watch in the picture is a watch I have! It’s pretty cool. My in laws got it for me for my birthday and though I was nervous opening the box I was pleasantly surprised as I never had eco drive nor a pulse meter before and it has a nice aesthetic.

WC has its moments though 😂

·

I own both mechanica/automatic and quartz watches, analog and digitals, and I can't even consider limiting myself to just one kind or style.

·

I was about to buy a Tag Heuer Aquaracer earlier this morning specifically because it's quartz. I've yet to decide on the exact model though because there are so many variations to choose from, unlike the automatics.

·

Why wouldn’t you be? Quartz watches are great 👍🏻

·

Define "enthusiast". The question and answers can mean differently unless you define it.

  • Quartz-only people are enthusiastic about quartz watches.

  • Quarts-only people are enthusiastic about wearing watches.

  • Quartz-only people could be non-enthusiasts about automatic watches.,

  • Quartz-only people could be non-enthusiasts about watches that require winding.

Whart do you mean by enthusiasts?

·

It's a good topic for a forum such as this. I would just say: do whatever you like, buy whatever you like, consider yourself enthusiast or don't, everything is fine.

But then again, you can use a variation of this reply to a lot of posts here and that's not why are we here.

I would love to own a high end quartz one day. Caliber 0100 or maybe Caliber 0060 (AQ4091) from Citizen, maybe one day 🥵

It's not about accuracy. We have phones for that. It's jewelry so convenience isn't really an issue for most. It's about history and micro machines that impress those into watch movements and horology. Quartz is a part of that but only a small part IMO.

I never knew Zenith had quartz watches, that one is absolutely beautiful

·

Can I be in both camps ? I love both

Yes, if a watch have both the quartz/mechanical option, I'll probably try to pick the mechanical one. But quartz are perfect for the everyday stuff. I prefer to wear my quartz watches, with leather/nato beacuse computer desks make scratches of bracelets. They are often lighter and thinner, so you bump them less often. They are also reliable, and mostly they do the job of telling time well enough.
