Multiple Seikos vs One Omega

Hey everyone, I wore this beauty today while again thinking if I should sell all my Seikos and buy an Omega. But I came to the same conclusion that I love the diversity, quality and value of Seiko. Why have one watch you love when you can have many you love - and each suits your mood for the day…without breaking the bank. What do you guys think?

Variety is the spice of life!  This is why I am a huge proponent of polygamy...  unfortunately, my wife doesn't agree.

She’s a keeper!! I love mine!

I’m with you completely my whole collection is made up of more affordable pieces. I like having many different watches. Don’t get me wrong if I can afford multiple luxury watches I’m upgrading😉.

Hey @danlochmann, When you said, "All my Seikos" did you mean "all my Dive Seikos" or do you have a more diverse Seiko collection (with presages, and other lines)?

In the case you only refer to Dive Seikos, I suggest you replace them with an Omega or even a Tudor. The only reason why I am suggesting that it is because, IMHO, Seiko divers are interchangeable, like Gummy bear Candy, it comes in different flavours but all taste the same 😜. I can't see a reason for having more than one.

But, like I said once on another post, just "Listen to Your Heart".

I only have 6 Seikos but they’re pretty divers(e) hahah. Field, Alpinist, and three divers. But I think I bought wisely and it seems most of these have either held their value or gone up (lookin at you Ginza Alpinist$. anyway, what do you think?

AS much as I want a Speedy, the variety of my collection is fun. I could never be a one watch only guy.

Plus, my entire collection isn't worth even 1/4 of a Speedy

·

I say keep all the Seikos and save up for an Omega. I am fortunate enough to have both brands in my collection and wouldn't want to part with any of them. Great Seiko shot today BTW! Below is mine from Sunday .... I think

It’s really a matter of personal preference.
I like all my watches for different things and sometimes it’s just that little difference which makes it a perfect match for your outfit and day.

As long as the collection doesn’t get too big, I love it like that.

But what I can tell you is, that 5x the price is not 5x the joy and fun with a watch.
For me, I need something like a minimum quality standard and I‘ll enjoy the watch.
It‘s all up to you 👍

Do the logical thing, add the Omega and keep the Seikos.  They don't get jealous.  You should never give up that Chronograph or the Seiko with the mosiac dial.  They're just too nice. I will have a Seiko joining my two Omegas shortly.

·

multiple seiko i guess. you can but variety of watch genre. but it is personal opinion

·

you can also buy a multiple of omega. here's the solution 😅

·

As fairly new to the addiction, I mean hobby.  I went with the 60 Timex choice.  Truthfully, it was completely organic and I didn't have much choice in the matter.  Now into this hobby for 2 years, I sometimes wonder if I should have saved for a $5,000 watch and be done with it.  However, there is something to be said about waking up in the morning and looking at my watch boxes and trying to figure out who is the lucky girl that gets to spend the day with me.'

Which Omega?

It could make sense to monetize some things you don't wear as much in order to consolidate into something you would wear more often. Consolidating divers was something mentioned earlier and could.make sense.  That said, no idea what you're looking for so hard to advise without context.

Hey man! I ❤️ My gummy bears lol…😉

·

Keep the Seiko watches you love, and know they are well made and reliable.  I have a large Seiko collection spanning many years, they continue to impress me and I will never give them up.

·

Like others have said, keep your really nice, diverse collection, and save up for the Omega. The time spent saving will make the purchase all the more sweet, and your collection all the more awesome.

·

It's a good question and I like having different options. Though, If I wanted to stick with just one, I would do the Omega.

·

I love the white dial and blue bezel. I don't believe people can be happy with a 1 watch collection. Life is to varied and you need to be prepared for anything.

·

I agree with many of the others on here: variety is key! So yeah, maybe add something from Omega down the line, but not at the expense of all those Seikos. Plus that anniversary SPB is such a looker.

·

Omega's movements are good but any eta2824 watch is just as good quality unless you want that name on it. Other Swiss brands make chronos just as good .

Seiko's are quality timepieces that are for the price better watches as they all perform the same function.

·

too bad I sent mine for servicing due to its bad accuracy I'll get mine maybe next week or so it has no charge because still at warranty lol

true I thought I would be happy with my one and only square GSHOCK but I'm wrong as time goes I demand one or more watch lol

On other forums I see people talk about diminishing returns. The way I see it this works two ways:

  1. a $1k watch won’t give you 10 time as much enjoyment as a $100 watch, and a $10k watch won’t give you 10 times as much enjoyment as that $1k watch
  2. Three $1k watches won’t give you 3 times as much enjoyment as one $1k watch.

People either say “quality over quantity” or “variety is the spice of life” but I think everyone needs to find their happy mix of the two. I know I would rather have 3 great watches over a single amazing watch. I would also rather have 3 great watches over 10 ok watches or 20 alright watches
·

I would keep this 62MAS reissue since it is a Limited Edition (6000 pieces).

I like having variety, but I also do appreciate how good it feels when you save up for and attain that piece you've been looking at for some time. Perhaps some kind of medium? Maybe you can sell all but one Seiko and still get the Omega. e.g. keep one Seiko diver and sell the rest to help buy a Speedmaster, I feel like that's sort of a happy medium in terms of variety, but also getting that piece you've been eyeing.

·

In my case, I sold most of my watches (to include a couple Seiko's and a Grand Seiko) to buy one expensive Seiko. Haha. Could have bought an Omega SMP300 for the price, but quite frankly, the SLA057 is pure magic!

·

I am admittedly too cheap to spend thousands on a watch. So I have a collection of many sub $500 watches, Seiko, Islander, Phoibos, G-Shock and the like that fills a broad range of colors and styles for my needs.  This way I can enjoy a number of watches without feeling guilty about spending too much and not freaking out if one gets damaged or lost.

I’m a Seikophile

i have and have had pretty much all their divers, Sarbs and lots of others in between, you can buy them in the comfortable knowledge that you can sell them at a very small loss, or if it’s one of the hallowed models they will increase in value, and dare I say it there are very few if any mid range Swiss brands who can say that.

Now to the question……for my money go for the Seiko’s….far more entertainment and options.

I lusted after an Omega Speedmaster Moon for years, I finally got one and it’s the most disappointing watch I’ve ever owned. Much overhyped and over priced and the design for a hand winding watch is terrible, the crown is too small and it’s positioned so it’s difficult to use. I haven’t got sausage fingers and even I found it difficult to wind.
