What attire would you/do you pair with the Cartier Santos Medium

I’ve been pondering this purchase for some time and am listing after the Cartier Santos medium, but I’m not sure it fits in with my lifestyle. On the one hand it appears to be quite the dress watch and would pair nicely with a suit. On the other, it was the original men’s sport watch!

My everyday wardrobe consists mostly of Levi’s, various boots, and collared shirts, usually with a plaid print. One or two weeks a year I have to trade out the blue jeans for some slacks.

So, does the Cartier Santos work in a more casual setting?

That would work for sure! I wear neither sneakers nor suits.

·

It wears well dressed down, but without fail when I do, people comment that it looks out of place as whether we like it or not, most think it is a dress watch these days. I can espouse how it was the original pilot’s watch, but times have changed on it. Either way, I will continue to wear it casually as well as occasionally with a suit.

·

Any damn way you please.

·

Jeans and a white tee? Goes perfectly, trust me.

·

Change your lifestyle. Forthwith.

·

I understand why you think this is a very problematic watch. I have no kind words for it. If you are not interested in channeling Hans Gruber, Frasier Crane, or the Butabi brothers, I really don't see how else it can be worn without looking seriously out of place. But apparently a complete disregard for how jarringly wrong it looks to others is part of the standard owner persona. It doesn't sound like you have this yet.

·

I wear mine with anything and everything. I do wish I had a dressier strap for it, as it’s not as dressy on the bracelet as people think (in my opinion at least) but their straps are very expensive :/

To dressy for casual wear. Looks very effeminate without a jacket or blazer.

I wear a colorful 34mm Timex Marlin Snoopy Christmas watch around the house, but won’t go out or visit friends with it… people don’t notice your watch until it appears that a grown-ass man is wearing a little girl’s first watch.

Do what you want (and enjoy it!) but people WILL wonder why you are wearing a woman’s watch. Yes, it’s technically a man’s watch, but nobody outside of watch forums believes that.

·

Get a reverso. Lots of great strap options to dress it down. I just wore mine to the movies with jeans and a polo. I had/have it on a light tan canvas and leather strap.

·

Probably one of the most versatilewatches out there. Don't go diving with it.

I think most Cartiers are dressy at first glance but do have a touch of sportiness that allows them to be more versatile than say, a PP Calatrava.

I actually think the Santos is very sporty and looks great with jeans an T-Shirt. For dress watches I prefer leather Straps and thinner watches that hide unter the shirt cuff. I have the Tank Must XL as my dress watch, but even that piece looks great with jeans and an oxford shirt or plain T-Shirt/long-sleeve.

·

The Santos will go with a anything, its one of the sport watches which doesn't look out of place in any setting. Leather strap makes it slightly dressier but on the bracelet it just goes well with a anything.

One of the purchases I wish to make is the Santos medium. Just waiting to see if they would release a version with brushed bezel after their latest Tank releases and it would be an instant buy.

What do YOU like ?

·

I never looked at a watch to match with my attire especially since 99% of the time I'm dressed like Hank Hill from King of the Hill. Before I got into watches I wore the same watch for 17 years it was a Citizen Eco drive that was more dress watch then everyday watch, but that was my watch. I think it's super cool to wear a Cartier with jeans and a tee shirt. Wear what you like.

Yes, I'm a Wrangler man myself and even wearing my Timex. lol

·

That picture doesn't do the watch justice though: A Santos deserves better than this overly tight, skinny-lapelled Boss-cheapy of a suit. 😁

But frankly, I think it's fine with anything as long as it's not shorts and flip-flops.

You can see from the tan line that Mr. Calhoun had just removed his Santos. Likewise, I would only wear one with overalls.

It’s more my lifestyle than my attire, but the Santos, like many other watches I own, DOES match my lifestyle. That said, when I have multiple lifestyle appropriate watches, the second deciding factor is, does this match?

First world problem!

·

I don’t even consider what I’m wearing when I pick my watch. I wear the watch because that’s the one I want to wear.

I certainly don’t consider anyone else’s opinion about my watch. Tank XL on bracelet with jeans and a concert T-shirt? Absolutely!!!

·

Some of these comments are, erm, interesting. It goes with literally anything. One example is in my profile pic. 😉

The attention I got wearing this would have been great some years ago, before I was married. 😂

The Cle is still my favorite Cartier, by far.

·

I think that you can get away with wearing almost anything with a Cartier.

·

I think it looks super weird in a casual setting.

But if you like the idea, go for it.

Very sad it never quite got the spotlight.

Agreed. My Dad snagged one last year though...

·

I think all men's Cartiers are cool design objects because they connect all of these male materials stereotypes with a very old-money/high-luxury attitude. The exposed steel, tank treads, and exposed screws combined with the rugged looking bridle leathers contrasted against the old-world dial designs... 👌. When you wear one you look masculine and refined and rich all at once. These are watches I can imagine a young JFK wearing with boat shoes, khakis, and a white oxford. Classic and waspy. Dirty up the look with exposed tattos and a leather bracelet. I love that sh*t.

·

It goes with a suit to the boardroom or out for a day in your board shorts and flip-flops

·

I'd wear a pair of slim fit slacks, tucked white t-shirt suede shoes or boat shoes, or even low sneakers.

it works with a Reverso, so it should work with a Santos)

It's a sports watch after all
