Islander x Urban Gentry "Rangemaster Mechanical" Limited Edition

Well, it's out! 37mm, mechanical, field. This will be pretty crowd pleasing for some!

I felt a little let down. I was hoping it’d be a little more interesting dial wise.

I'm not sure why they felt two numerical typefaces were needed. I greatly prefer the inner one. Very nice though thoroughly inessential watch unless one is lacking a field watch. I do like their hour arrow hand.

·

I think it’s awesome and if they make a 40/41 mm I’ll be first in line. Well I’ll be first in line for the one that doesn’t have the tg thing on it.

I'd say it's because they're re-using the 3-6-9 typeface from the first model for continuity, then adding a new inner one. But the inner one wouldn't look right in the same typeface they use on the 3-6-9.

·

I just ordered one. I actually might like this design slightly more than the first one (which I also have). I'll have to actually see it in person and on wrist to know for sure.

·

The double logos are a minus. Nice watch otherwise.

·

It's too small. 39-41 would be better for me. Otherwise, Love it.

·

Looks great but I wish it had a bracelet option. I'm crossing my fingers the next collab will be a white dial GMT version.

·

I love the specs for my smaller wrist. But I do wish they had gone with a Miyota 9 series. But likely price was a factor. They are donating $15k to charity for this release. But I think I'll wait for the next collab.

It's certainly more original than many field watches (a genre which I personally find pretty dull) for which it deserves credit. A bit of a mash up between dive style indices and otherwise traditional fieldwatch features.

·

I’ll pass. Not my cup of tea but respect them both for what they’re doing for the watch enthusiasts.

·

Very tempted, but I already have a field watch (Seiko 5 field) and a 3-6-9 dialed GADA (Lorier Falcon). Love the size and mate stainless steel as well as I’m a sucker for nice canvas straps. Should have pulled the trigger on their first one last year since it was before both my field and GADA watches (and I bought a ton of watches this year and have not grown a new wrist). I’ll sleep on it tonight and will see clearer tomorrow (avoid impulse buying).

·

I already ordered one. Big surprise there. 🤣

·

When you can't decide between the Explorer and the Khaki Field Mechanical. Why not both??

·

Just ordered one, too. The lume looks great, I like the 24 hour inner ring a lot. I don’t mind the two logos…in fact I like the idea of these two collaborating and it gives this watch a little special something to differentiate it. I just hope the movement isn’t horribly inaccurate. But it’s super light, thin, and has a great aesthetic. I dig it.

·

I ordered one. Some watches need to be seen in person and evaluated on the wrist over time. I have several watches that became favorites after owning for several months. I also have watches that wow'd me out of the box and got sold for lack of wrist time.

And if it's anything like the first Rangemaster, and supply outstrips demand*, you're always going to be able to sell it and not lose any money (not suggesting price gouging here by any stretch, simply that it wouldn't need to be sold at a loss), if you test drive it and don't want to keep it for x, y, z, reasons.

(*By this time of day, a year ago, the original Rangemaster had sold out. But this run is 2x as large.)

·

Not one for me. I find the dial a little busy, and I don't think the Explorer typeface goes well on a flieger. And, as always, I can't stand the Islander logo.

Just a point of order, it's a field watch, not a flieger. Specifically in homage to the kind of watches Hamilton was providing troops in Vietnam (see image above for an example). Key differences being the Vietnam era watches were about 34mm, the hands are different on the Rangemaster (more Tudor Ranger-esque), and the 3-6-9 is carried over from the previous Rangemaster in the Urban Gentry X Island collab.

Thank you for the clarification; I'm still fairly new to this hobby. Still, I don't think the typeface they chose for the 3-6-9 is a good fit for the design.

Agreed. Not sure why watches have the redundant 24hr rather than hour/minute

·

Really nice just shame archie luxury didn't make it,I'd of bought five 🤣😂shitters

Hmmmm….

Needs a tourbillion. And a moon phase.

·

The double logos and large indices look too busy imo, but I'm happy with my Khaki Mechanical so I may be biased

My worry isn’t necessarily the accuracy at it can be easily regulated by the customer. My worry is having an automatic watch with a rotor removed. Manual wind watches are made to be wound repeatedly without issue while Automatic are not usually willing to take constant winding. With automatics you wind a few times, set the time and you are on your way. With the rotor being removed and forcing the movement to run off winding only seems like a recipe for disaster in the long run…

Another instance why Marc is one of the nicest guys in the business. Got my shipping and billing addresses mixed up and I emailed Long Island Watch to see if I could get it fixed. I got this in return. Didn't have to do more than swap it. Day of the launch, he's understandably busy. Got it done later that day and adds a personal touch.

I've had plenty of interesting, chatty replies from Marc over the years when I've emailed the main contact address; nine times out of ten, not related to a direct purchase at all. He's a gem.
