Saying Goodbye: Tudor Heritage Ranger, ref. 79910

Well, it's happened again. Another watch has left the collection which, alongside another that I will write up next, brings me down to three watches - all of them quartz, no less. But that's another tale.

Good lord, what is happening?

As I've written about in posts and replies over some time now, I'm radically downsizing. I've done this in the past - again and again, actually, on my way to getting "everything I wanted" - but after a period of time I felt I needed to do it again.

But why the Ranger? It was a great size for me... it's a gorgeous, simple watch... it's a great brand... and when I found the Haveston canvas strap to replace the frankly weird 'straight bar' bracelet it came on, I thought this was a lifer in my collection.

Well, times change, and I will have a bespoke watch coming from a well-known European manufacturer VERY SOON. I've been told 2-3 weeks, but am unclear whether that was 2-3 weeks until it ships from Europe or 2-3 weeks until it lands at the local distributor here in Australia.

And that watch, frankly, will push every button for me that this watch does. So rather than wear the new watch and just get depressed looking at this sitting in the watch box, I've made a pre-emptive move. It's gone.

Am I sad? Not as sad as I thought I'd be. The more I get into this downsizing mindset, the less I care. I have three GREAT watches that I really love wearing. And there's another coming. I'm spoiled for choice already.

So, farewell Heritage Ranger. You were a great watch.

You’re brave selling some of the collection off before the new one arrives! I’ve purchased plenty of watches with intentions to sell off what I currently had only to find I liked my current stuff more and sold the more recent acquisition. For me, I’ve learned to have both in hand for a few weeks and then sell the one I don’t like as much.

Well, the one that's coming is bespoke. It's my design, based on existing parts at the watchmaker in question. So, given that, I'm thinking I'll like the watch. But who knows? :)

Fair enough! Now I can’t wait to see it.
