Saying Goodbye: Omega Seamaster Diver 300m, ref. 2531.80.00

Another one bites the dust. My trusty 1999 model Omega Seamaster Diver 300m. Goneskis.

I've written about my collection downsizing in other threads, so I won't go over old ground. But I will talk about what a great watch this is, which must seem so crazy in a thread where I've let it go.

Basically, this was my dream watch in the 90s. I'm not saying anything new to a particular kind of Cruncher out there. I know many of you guys felt the same way about it, and either scratched the itch, or are still thinking about scratching the itch.

The watch itself is a brilliant size for a diver - not tiny, not huge - and it's so thin, it feels really elegant compared to modern divers, whether from Omega or elsewhere.

In short, it's a great watch. But I found myself wearing it less and less. One reason why is that I liked wearing it on the bracelet, which meant I didn't like wearing it at work - which is where I wear most of my watches - because I didn't want to scratch up the bracelet for no reason on my desk.

Then, when I was away from work, I'd look at what I was wearing and/or what I was doing and the Seamaster always felt a little too dressed up for my look, or my activity. I know some people will rail against that; probably some plumber who wears a Rolex, but we all have different takes on this stuff.

I'd feel 100x more comfortable, lately, strapping on my Lunar Pilot or Tuna or even Duro, than the Seamaster.

So it just wasn't getting wrist time like it should. To be sure, every time I put it on I'd think, WOW, I LOVE THIS. WHY DON'T I WEAR THIS MORE?!? Then I'd go back to not wearing it for weeks or months on end.

And you know, when you're in a downsizing mood, and you're not wearing something, and it's literally thousands of dollars of unrealised cash sitting in a box, you waver. I wavered. It's gone.

See ya, Seamaster. I loved you.

The bond between a man and his watch is deep 😂. I’m holding off on selling many pieces, but I know I’ll have to say goodbye soon too

Almost same exact story for me. I keep it as my user pic to remind me of the experience I had with it, but don’t regret selling it.

I understand completely. You don't owe any watch any commitment, nor any one an explanation on the rhyme or reason of the direction you go with it. Make your collection work for you.

Say it’s not true . It’s a near perfect watch.
