Do lume markers bother you?

As we all know, most watches have luminescent components on the dial because if you're in a dark environment, you won't have a problem reading your watch.

It's definitely handy, but I hate how they look on most watches. They're an unnecessary third or fourth color that ruin the aesthetic of your watch. Most times, I'm able to ignore it, but if the stock photo shows off the watch and that sickly green color is prominent, then that watch gets a big pass.

It's why I have such a huge appreciation for the Seiko SPB313. The hour markers don't have that green shade. Instead, they're filled in with a subtle, powder snow blue hue. And it's gorgeous. The ebb and flow of the color palette that's present for this watch has not been disrupted and I wish everyone would appreciate that accomplishment as much as I do.

How do you feel about lume markers? Do they bother you or do you not care?

I agree with you the lume color can make or break a watch. I usually don't like that faux patina lume at all.

·

I do usually prefer lume to be close to white. The pale yellow/green can be a bit off putting on some watches. But it depends on the whole design, and is rarely a total deal breaker.

·

If I’m being honest, I’d even wish the straps would lume…

·

I don't care either way. Lume is low on my priority list. Just below my watches aesthetic qualities.

·

I suspect people's answers to this will have a fair bit to do with how people view their watches. Some people view them as primarily fashion accessories with an interesting story, some view them as primarily functional tools, and others view them as an equal mix of the two.

Watches are more about function than form for me, so a slight green tinge to lume doesn't bother me at all. If anything it helps make the markers stand out even more when placed on a white dial.

In the examples above, I'd hope a watch that costs 3x as much as the Timex has the lume sorted out...

·

Depends on the application but for those who need lume, they’re going to want as much as they can get, regardless of color. IMO, Zelos is king of lume, with full lume dials and also on the hands, bezel, and crown.

·

I think it’s all about personal taste…i myself was kinda doubting the lume on my SLA066… would I preferred it less green and more tint of yellow to be close to gold’ish hue perhaps … also depends on lighting it can change …

Oh man! Someone posted a watch before with all lume straps included!! Dang it I forget who it was 🤦‍♂

I grew up enchanted by the glow-in-the-dark adhesive stars on my bedroom ceiling. There is almost nothing in the world that I don't want heavily lumed.

Second this. There is no unilateral oppinion, it comes to overall design. F.i. lume discs without rounding ring on BB Pro are amazing at day and night but would look hideous on crisp white dial in daylight

·

No not bothered about the colour of the lime as long as it Works.

·

Love my 313.

It all depends on the rest of the watch. There is a place for blue, green, white and creamy lume. Most important of all, it should shine long and hard!

·

I love faux-patina on lume plots and I think that blue lume is way better than green. It's not make or break and I rarely use watches in a dark environments and I'm spending most of the day indoors, so sometimes I don't even get my lume charged, but I love looking at blue lume and don't like green.

So for me - custard/brown lume plots with a blue glow is just perfect

·

Yeah I see what you’re saying. Just depends for me on the aesthetics of that particular watch. Makes me appreciate my Citizen automatic diver though because the markers are Snow White during the day and blue lume in the dark.

If anyone's got you covered, it's Uncle ✊

Heck, yeah! Uncle is the best.

·

I don't mind it usually, except on Laco Augsbergs. The markers are just glowing green all the time, and it ruins the vibe of the watch, especially the blue dial one.

·

Nope, not bothered at all.

Funnily enough it's not really the colours that bother me ( tho I'm a big fan of fauxtina) but the shape - I absolutely hate round lume plots, like on most divers.

For example, l own the Seamaster 300 heritage but don't like the 300 diver.

Oh now that’s an interesting take lol. I’ve not been too peeved about the shape of hour markers. But with the two models that you’ve presented, for me personally it’s 300 Diver > 300 Heritage. The markers on the heritage are way too sharp. Not a fan.

I feel that. It just ruins the color palette that the watch has. It sucks.

Typo. I’m actually selling it. It is the 904L premium. I replaced the original ceramic bezel with an aluminum one. As you can see in the photo, the lume plots on the bezel are all variation of white and cream. With the new bezel, the issue is gone. If you ir anyone is interested in the watch, DM me.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. To each his own. So, no need to be envious. 😉

Lume is one of the first things I look for. It is preferable to me.

Lume color is the deal breaker though.

·

a phone to tell the time? Sacrilege !!

·

Never bothered much about lume before I got my Lorier Hyperion... now it's something I pay attention to.

@WatchPlayboy mentioned the same watch haha. Yeah nah, bit a dumb move to have put the lume on the bezel. Pretty foolish imo

Agreed~

·

When a watch is supposed to have lume it must be great. Otherwise, not that bothered

·

Nothing more better when you driving through a dark tunnel next thing you see the lume on your watch so cool.
