Too "Low-key' as one of the holy trinity?

Finally, after many years of slogging in the corporate world, I still can't afford a holy trinity piece. ๐Ÿ˜‚ But hey, I'm blessed to know a good friend who owns one! ๐Ÿ˜œ So I thought might as well snag a photo and share it with you guys on my thoughts.

First impression, watch sits pretty comfortably at 41mm on my 6.5 inch wrist. Photo does not do the silver sunburst dial justice and if you flip to view the see through case back, that VC gold rotor is a thing to die for! ๐Ÿ˜ In my opinion, one of the best perk is the quick release bracelet that works similarly to Cartier Santos. Elegant, but yet versatile. Expensive (at least for me) but yet, subtle enough to be the "if you know you know" kind of watch.

The above being said, am not really used to seeing a watch with such a big dial on my wrist (probably too used to my Rolex Exp2 which bezel takes up quite a big chunk). Similarly, I get that it's subtle but a part of me felt like I would really love it to have more "wrist presence" if I were to drop SGD 45k on a watch. (Since I already have my Rolex Exp2 16570 for subtle-ness as well. ๐Ÿ˜€)

For now, I guess I will still like to stick to my grail piece which is the AP Royal Oak Offshore Navy as per below:

Though to be fair, I've yet to try it on myself. Never know if my mindset might change once I tried it on. ๐Ÿ™‚ Disclaimer: Not really into flexing/flaunting, but I just like the whole presence of an AP better from an aesthetic point of view.

What's you guys take if you were to drop such an amount on a time piece? Would you like me, like the piece to have more presence? Or you'd rather it to be as subtle as possible? Or you're just all into the specs and aesthetically wise comes 2nd?

If youโ€™re not into flexing, then choose to be subtle. Youโ€™ll be ok knowing youโ€™re wearing one of the finest timepieces ever made.

ยท

Overall I would prefer to have more of a low key watch then a flashy watch that I have to pay way more attention and mindfulness of the location Iโ€™m going to be in.

ยท

VC over AP all day for me, at least modern (anything after 2010) APs. It is unfortunate a brand with top heritage has become a one watch brand and that one watch does nothing for me, but that is just me. There is no denying it is a nice watch otherwise. On a 6.5 inch wrist, I would try an AP on first, they can wear large.

ยท

That VC is beautiful.

That AP is ๐Ÿคข๐Ÿคฎ

ยท

VC. There are other versions with more going on if that's your bag. There's a chronograph, a retrograde date with moonphase, a dual time with date, a perpetual calendar, a tourbillon and a skeleton. I think I've forgotten one.

The RO doesn't do it for me I'm afraid.

ยท

The overseas is my grail

ยท

The blue dial pink gold is a true grail for me. There is no way I could ever justify buying it, but my heart yearns for it nonetheless haha

ยท

that vc looks stunning, very elegant

ยท

mY grail is the vacheron overseas in blue dial. I love the way it looks and the status it has among watch enthusiasts. I cannot afford one currently nor will i feel comfortable spending that amount on just one watch.

Before i was able to see and try a royal oak in person, i thought it was pretty ugly. I was an instant fan once i tried this one on my wrist. ๐Ÿคฉ (maybe one day i will come across a patek nautilus and also change my mind on its looks)

Try it on first caude ROO not for everyone wrist, will hit your wrist bone

ยท

That VC is stunning!

ยท

This is the very watch I'm contemplating buying after selling a number of my watches. I have yet to see it other than pictures online but it looks stunning.

The fact that it'll go under the radar of many is one of the appealing aspects of the watch. I want to be able to go out wearing it safe in the knowledge that it'll not make me a target. I also don't feel the need to wear a watch that shouts out to everyone "Hey look at me, I'm successful."

The Overseas is undoubtedly a beautiful watch but it'll only be the watch enthusiast & myself that'll know where this timepiece sits in the Pantheon of the best watches in the world.

ยท

The overseas is so perfect that your AP grail seems a common sport piece in my opinion ๐Ÿ˜… I must say it fits fantastic on you!

Speaking in a vacuum, I would never marry outside my faith. In reality, I fell hard for a girl raised without any religion at all and next month will be our 25th anniversary. I have a preference for โ€œsleepers,โ€ and would rather my watch or my car get a sly nod from an aficionado than a gasp from a civilian, but if I had the money to spend stress-free, and fell in love with a purple Ferrari or a 55mm ruby-festooned Rolex, Iโ€™d be open to throwing my stated preferences out the window to give my spirit what it wanted.

ยท

Low key is better. If it looks like โ€œjust another Seikoโ€ from 10โ€™ that is perfect.

Attracting the wrong kind of attention at the wrong place and time is to be avoided.

ยท

Subtle luxury is the coolest luxury. I could wear comfortably that VC.

ยท

For what it's worth from a newcomer with probably different tastes/criteria than yours (but similar wrist size): I think the larger dial to bezel ratio can give it presence, especially if the dial has great sunburst effect. And I tend to view the bracelet especially on integrated watches as, well, integral to the overall effect, including presence - so if you like the VC bracelet and it has texture, reflections etc that pop, I'd count that towards presence. (For me, that's why the bracelet's looks are basically half the reason to get an integrated watch.) Anyway, just some undercaffeinated reactions....

ยท

Between that VC and that AP? The VC. I've always liked the look of the Overseas, but have never cared for the Royal Oak Offshore. Now, if it were a choice between the blue dial Overseas and the regular ol' blue dial Royal Oak, it would be a coin toss!

ยท

Choose the VC but VC def makes more under the radar watches (some of the Historiques line for instance) than the Overseas. But then again I'm not into the large sporty look . . . while def not super flashy by watch world standards I think it's not totally under the radar.

ยท

That VC is class. Proper stealth wealth.

ยท

Amazing watch

Whatโ€™s your wrist size? Mine is 6โ€2 and the lug to lug is too large for me ๐Ÿ˜”

ยท

Naw... that VC is pure class.

ยท

Maybe you can look at a blue dial or other color. Silver is pure class but not as interesting

ยท

As subtle as possible. Always.

ยท

VC > AP for provenance, build quality, and hauteness (read: hawt-ness).

Have a friend who was allotted a 15202 from AD, the stem broke and ripped out when he was setting the time, 6 months into ownership. When he brought it back to them they gave him a hard time when he tried to use warranty to cover it - they were trying really hard to get out of it to make him pay for repair.

ยท

I think this is a killer watch! I love the "kind of" low-keyness of the piece

ยท

If I was to spend that type of money Iโ€™d absolutely be getting an overseas I donโ€™t want presence I want a work of both art and engineering on my wrist

ยท

If I'm gonna spend that much on 1 piece it won't be a steel sports watch....gotta be more than that

ยท

I want a vintage 222, badly.
