What is “vintage” nowadays?

Are watches from the 90s considered vintage? 80s? 70s?

Hahahaha. I said this a number of times. I will not yield.

I’ve heard older than 25 years can be considered vintage… So, yes, I own watches I bought new and still wear that somehow became vintage in my care. Not sure how that happened. 🤔😉

·

From what i heard on Fratello late 80s-early 00s is neo vintage

·

Basically anything from 40 years past is considered vintage. So rejoice if you have a watch from 1984 and downwards. 25 years past from now is neo-vintage, so if you have something from 1999 downwards, congratulations.

·

Anything before I was born bc I don’t want to feel old 😂

·

In my brain anything before quartz is vintage anything after is modern.

·

I feel pretty vintage most days 👴🏻🤣

·

My take:

Modern = under 25 yrs old

Neo Vintage = 25-50 yrs

Vintage = 50-75 yrs

·

In my opinion a decent cutoff is tritium dials, at least if the watch has lume.

·

I prefer the term "classic," thank you very much. For instance, the growing number of white hairs on my beard, head and chest indicate that I'm rapidly becoming a "classic."

·

1990 and older is vintage. 1991-2000 is neo-vintage. I was born in 91 so 91 can't be vintage lol To expand a bit, I think anything over 30 years old is vintage. 20-29 years old is neovintage.

·

I've always understood it to be that 30 tears old is vintage and 100 years old is antique. Source: an antique dealer whose store I used to live above.

·

It is generally agreed across the vintage watch market worldwide that a watch becomes vintage when it is more than 20 – 25 years old. 😀

·

I consider myself vintage nowadays.. 1977 is vintage right 😜😩🤣

At this moment in 2024 I would agree, but that will likely change in 5 years

😂 Yeah, none of us want to admit the passing of time, I still wake up sometimes in a cold sweat thinking I forgot to do my homework

What an awful dream! Definitely don’t miss those days. 😩

I have heard that 25 years or older can be described as vintage but I think there’s more to it than just ‘years on earth.’ Especially with watches. Vintage, by my mind, has to be a design that’s very much of its era; a design that would immediately be defined by, and a part of its era.

I just got back from a little trip and I wore this Tag from the mid nineties.

For me this is such an iconic 90s watch. If you showed me a speedmaster from 1995 I don’t know if I’d call it vintage, just 30 years old. The speedy is an icon for any year it’s existed… it’s an evergreen design.

The Tag, again at least in my mind, just screams 1995.

Vintage is more than just old, but connected to its time of production by trend and design.

The Swatches my girlfriend had in ‘84 feel the same. When I think of watches in the 80s I think of these.

It’s a mushy word for sure, so use it as you like but that’s my initial thought.

·

I own a Zenith El Primero from 1997 and don’t consider it vintage. From me ‘70s are vintage

·

I am from the Language Police and I will arrest anyone who uses “neo vintage” non-ironically. It is double plus ungood.

·

I've always thought the vintage line is 25 years.

My first concert was ELVIS. Tell me about it. Admittedly I was 11 and he was mostly dead but still.......

I can accept that definition 👍🏻

True... Also supprisingly odd seeing how this is a group of people obsessed with devices intended to literally measure the passage of time.😛
