I have several Wolf Windsor watch boxes for mine. Not ideal for display (due to orientation), but great for storage.
I recently discovered these 4 watch display stands from Holme & Hadfield. They are great for display, but not as great for storage.
I really like the idea of a wall mounted display, but I don't have the talent to build one. If I did, I'd try to incorporate some LED lighting as well.

Awesome. Not sure I can talk my wife into that. I just use a simple case from Amazon. 10 Slots Watch Box Organizer/Men Watch Display Storage Case Fits All Wristwatches and Smart Watches up to 42mm with Extra 4 Pocket for Watch Band and Other Accessories (Black) https://a.co/d/7437UVI

Watch boxes with magnetic components (i.e. clasps, hinges, etc.) - potential to magnetize your mechanical watch movements causing them to run fast. You will have to use a demagnetizer to correct the issue.
Poor quality material on the cushions and in the lining that will interact negatively with your bracelets and straps. Must be something in the chemicals used to manufacture the cushions.
Poorly sized slots that cause the watches to move around and knock into each other causing damage when the box is moved (I've experienced this first-hand on a really inexpensive Chinese box that holds thirty watches - needless to say it only has the cheap fun stuff in it).
Cheap watch winders that will damage your movement either due to the winding mechanism or magnetic components in the mechanism that will magnetize your watch.
I'm sure there are more that I missed here, but you get the idea.
It's like those watch holders where they have a button to close them and they fail to protect the inside of the holder from the metal of the reverse of the button - can really scratch a watch. Always want to make sure the inside is fully lined and protected.
This. My AD often talks about how frequently folks come in to demagnetize their watches resulting from cheap winders. There are very nice inexpensive boxes that should check all the boxes you mentioned.
Yes exactly, that's were I'm at. I have three 12 slot boxes could use 4. I just think it would be cool to put em' up on the wall. And Holy Cow! Nice Collection!

I use watch winders from BOXY and Jins&Viko for the automatic and Holme & Hadfield for the quartz. There is also a display box when I get tired of seeing the same watches on the winders.
They are all located in the same bookcase in the study.

What's funny is when Alexa just blurts out in the middle of the kitchen...isn't it time for you to reorder a watch box? Then my wife just gives me "The Look"...😉
Damned alexa, glad to know someone else gets grassed up by that electronic horror.

add some cable management and LED backlighting for the final coup de grace 🤘
I know it's always the terror of any collector to be robbed of a lifetime of effort. But at the same time I'd rather enjoy life and not live in fear. And enjoy my collection to the fullest!
I only have two +1.000$ watches at home at any given time. The others are at my safe-deposit box. If I go on vacation there won't be any expensive watch at my apartment.
The convenience of having a lot of money at home is simply not worth losing my peace of mind.
Things I like: Warm Socks, Cold Cookies and Watches of all types, shapes, makes and sizes. However I do have a soft spot for watches from the 60's-70's Things I'm not fond of: Wet Socks, No Cookies an...

*Not my collection* but I’ve just picked myself one of these Stirling Timepiece Cases to store my watches

Not going to lie, but that wall case is amazing! Why not display the art?
I have a 'catchall'/valet tray by the bed with my daily watch, wedding ring and AirPods in, the rest are in an Amazon watch box in the drawer!

I have a watch box but I'm thinking about building a shelf with a hidden drop down compartment to hold a couple watches.

I have a 15 slot watchbox that I store my watches in.

Would you be able to see them? or would it be a hiding spot?

Do you keep it out on display or in a drawer?
Some of the ones I've read about are as follows:

The issue these days is more about storing watch boxes rather than watches.

True Blue!
I use these watch boxes from Amazon - they are well made and have no deleterious effects on the watches' finishes or movements.
They are reasonably priced.

Almost my dream collection 😍. Just add a couple Vostoks 😂
Mine are tossed into cigar boxes on my ironing board. I don't iron enough.
5 in a watch winder case. The rest are just floating around on the table and on my wrist. Lol. Gotta get a watch box sooner or later
