Why is it a controversial watch? - Rolex OP Celebration dial

Two weeks ago I went to my AD to get on the list for the new Rolex OP with the celebration dial. The watch was quite controversial when it was announced at Watches & Wonders this year. I immediate...

Thanks for all your responses! It was really interesting to see what was on the minds of my fellow watchheads!

Love you all! ❤️

Oh, I think you misunderstood me. The opinion of other people (except maybe my wife) is not going to change my mind about the watch at all.

I was just curious if it's too childish/not serious enough for most enthusiasts, or if there's some other reason. I find it quite interesting that "fun" watches are not really a thing for many people.

It was also quite interesting to see that a lot of people on WatchCrunch (compared to Reddit) are not the biggest fans of Rolex overall, the hype around the brand and their business practices. I'm on that side too, but it wouldn't stop me from liking/buying the model per se.

Looked up your Navi in your WRUW shots. Looks amazing. Is yours really 46mm? It seems smaller in your wrist. Your wrist must be massive.

This one is fortunately only 41mm.

All the fuzz, videos and community is just a clunky timekeeping device on our wrist; old, outdated technology by today's standards.

On the other hand, it's something so comforting, so beautiful, to have a constant force in our fast-paced lives and environments. An object so unnecessarily and ridiculously refined that if we weren't using watches today, but archaeologists were digging it up somewhere in Egypt, we might scratch our heads as to why they were so particular with their timekeeping devices, to a degree it's funny, yet still display their artifact in the world's finest museums.

But it's still just a watch. Nothing life-changing. I too struggle to manage my expectations every time I try on a watch at an AD after meticulously researching it online.
