Rare complications that should return 🤔

What rare complications should get a modern re-interpretation?

I have been looking at this Grüen 24 hour watch for some time and i think the 12 positions with shifting numbers 24-hour dial is a very smart and simple way of presenting the 24 hours of the day and i can't believe that no one else is doing this.

That’s a great solution.

Wauw that looks awesome, that is for sure one that deserves a rerun 👍 A little worried that i would over wind it though, bezels can be great fidget things 😂

·

I’ve never seen this before, but now in need one.

·

Smart 🤩 and yeah, i think a lot of people would 😉

·

That Gruen is pure genious and now I need a shifting numerals watch !

Absolutely love this piece. Happy hunting. Bad boy on my radar too.

That Gruen is pretty cool

Beautiful watches! I like Gruen.

I'd like to see more mechanical alarm complications. Not necessarily minute repeaters, but something more affordable, along the lines of the JLC Memovox.

Image

I also like the 'hidden' GMT hand like on the JLC Master Hometime. It's shaped to tuck behind the local hour hand when not needed, and runs on a 12 hour cycle with AM/PM indicator.

Image

A nice alternative GMT is the Montblanc 1858 GMT - the second timezone indicated by a red square/sandwich which track around the exterior of the dial. It would be nice to see some other fun takes on the complication:

The hidden GMT hand is awesome. Parmigiani Fleurier just did one here, but expensive:

Here's the most useless complication!

The Krayon Anywhere's compilation is so useless, but amazing because of its uselessness.

It can indicate sunrise and sunset anywhere in the world, but you have to set it to a specific location. That'll be $100k, thank you very much.

Image

Now, for a measly $500k, you can have a watch that tells you the sunrise and sunset anywhere in the world as you make some adjustments. Here's the Krayon EVERYWHERE. (Seriously, that's the name.)

Some awesome pics below (look at that sick movement) and read all about it in this link:

It's quite incredible that it all works from the outside of the case. As far as I know it's the only watch to ever make that happen.

Where I disagree is in the complication being useless, I have it set on the face of my smartwatch and actually like to know how much longer it will be day and when the sun rises.

If you can live with a fixed location, Ochs and Junior has one for much less... but I think that's a MASSIVE downgrade, even if the Krayon takes forever to set.

I just have to point out -- Krayon is a terrible name for a watch company -- it sounds like a kid's toy.

The Gruen 24 hour dial complications are awesome, and I agree, they need to make a comeback. I just wish they could make it happen with a date complication also.

·

I’d love to see more “parking meter timers” essentially a count down timer with an alarm. I set timers all the time and would love to not need my phone to do it. I can use a dive bezel as long as I remember to check it but when I really need a timer I’m to busy to remember lol.

Yeah, that would be so useful 😁👍

·

Perhaps this makes more sense on a watch without a second hand but the Mondia Top Second mechanical flashing red dot is pure whimsy.

Anything retrograde. I just love the snap back to position, especially in the frequency of a seconds hand like in the Breguet Tradition 7097.

Now imagine a Grand Seiko spring drive seconds hand with a retrograde function. 🤤

I know that Vulcain has recently relaunched the Cricket. Still several thousand, but less than the Memovox, if I recall correctly.

Wait…it just flashes between red and black every second?

Bingo! Yes it does. Pretty cool huh?

Actually, yeah! I’m surprised it doesn’t sap the power reserve. Is the switch instantaneous?

This post inspired me. I have now acquired a Gruen Airflight of my own. https://www.watchcrunch.com/ImNevix/posts/new-to-me-gruen-airflight-42237
