Two is the magic number?

Like most watch enthusiasts I've been on my own journey, involving a number of stages along the way, evolving as my tastes and focus changed.

As far as I'm concerned there is no right or wrong to this watch hobby we share, but personally I'm at a point whereby a two watch collection works.

A do it all watch for the gym, sports manual labour, and more luxury piece for the rest of the time.

I'm finding I have no time for any other watches. I'm sure I'll get bored at some point, that's the nature of the hobby, and it doesn't stop me looking at watch content and enjoying it, but the reality for me at least is understanding what works.

What works for me is 2 watches.

What works for you and why?

As far as a two watch collection goes… yours is fantastic! 👍🏻

I’m just greedy, so I want way more that two! 😜😂

·

I think three is the magic number for me. Mainly because I like sports watches but those don’t dress up as well as I need for what I do. And most sports watches that I want to get couldn’t be a beater (Speedy, BB58, etc).

·

I have 18 watches right now and would like to drop the number down to 12 but don’t know how to get rid of them. No one will want to but them and I have no one who I can give them to.

·

I think 5/6 would be my sweet spot if I had some type of self control. Diver, Dress, Field, Pilot, Chrono x 5 LOL.

It can almost feel like your trapped when your collection is larger than feels comfortable, particularly if you don't wear them.

Thanks, I've been greedy too in the past, and who knows, may be again in the future 😁

Very true, I feel guilty adding any more pieces at this point without paring down what I already have. There’s no need for that many watches outside of consumerism.

You have sooo many great watches. Having that many I would custom that casio 2100. I gave mine away but love them. In the States You can have lots of fun tunning those, maybe go that way in the hobby ..cheaper

Bought a 12 slot box a while back because I told myself I wouldn’t have more than 12 ever. I’m at 18 now, just got a second box. New limit is no more than 24. We’ll see

I enjoy revisiting those watches that I grow tired of and almost rediscovering them. As I go through the phases of collecting, I find that sometimes I do want to wear a shiny diver once and a while. Other days I want to wear my weekender on a weekend, for some reason I can’t seem to let go to them usually unless I’m truly not fond of the watch

Hey whatever works for you 👊

·

That is what I'm trying for!! One "main" and one "backup/beater". But I want both to be pretty much good enough for every occasion 🤔 So I can easily live with just one of them during a service or a watch broke or I had to sell the most expensive of them.

The Tudor being the "main" and the Seiko the "spare" but maybe it will turn out that I actually like the Seiko the most. The picture is of my wifes watch. I'm getting the one with the grey bezel 😊

I haven’t found my sweet spot yet. I only have one watch box and it has 8 slots. I have six watches in my “core collection” and six others that I like enough that I haven’t gotten rid of them… I long to trim down my collection, but also look at new watches all the time…

If I were to just use two of my watches it would be these two though, since they are my all time favorites and complement each other well. I would be sad not to have my G-Shock in rotation though!

Two great pieces 👌For me I need a G Shock for my lifestyle, even if it meant letting some of my others go.

Such a versatile watch! (The Tudor BB). Fist bump from a fellow owner. 👊

·

@Ticker - Which Tudor is that? 58?

·

There’s no way I could do that. The more watches to fill my watch drawers…the better.

·

I just can't understand. I haven't decided on a limited number of watches. Maybe 50,70, or 100. I just enjoy each piece so much. The thing about it is You just do You. Whatever you like and enjoy it without anyone telling you. 😀

Agree, I like collecting, so as long as I have display space, and my partner agrees - no limit

·

In the process of knocking down my collection to focus on quality and not quantity. I’m at 15-16 but just sold my first off. Maybe aiming at having 5-6 big ones I have a Rolex, Omega, and Paneri. I want to add a Zenith, one more Rolex, and a GS and I’ll call it done and wrapped

·

Ive got about a dozen but i find myself reaching for at most, three... a rolex, an apple watch, and maybe a timex or some other beater.. the rest are just rotated out of boredom or for maintenance. The apple watch, especially, is a greedy little thing..

·

For me, I would choose my Casio Mission Impossible as my though beater (to a G-Shock what VW is to Audi) and my cleaner do-it-all would be my Lorier Hyperion (strap monster, GMT, 100m water resistance, extremely thin and muted pepsi bezel that is easier to wear occasions with a dress code).

·

Two:

Hmm, last week, 8 watches arrived at mine. Currently another 5 in transit. I need to close my Ebay account...

·
Rugger227

Just donate them if possible. I have done that with Guess watches in the past. It’s better than throwing them out

Yeah, I don’t plan on throwing any away. At worst they’ll live in a box unless someone find it 😂

You can always try ebay or poshmark. Just post and wait.

Yes the BB 58

·

I think everyone fantasies about having a one or two watch collection, as then that one watch is just your faithful companion, so it's fantastic that you are complete in your collection with the two. Some days I think it would be better to just have one watch, but I could never bring myself to sell them. Also, I, like many others, really enjoy the choice 😂

·

Mudmaster gwg-1000, gw-9400 they cover all possible situations in daily life or extreme possibilities.

·

I can’t stop…….

·

Not bought a watch since 16th of August. Ooh!
