Thoughts on the Omega Moonswatch?

They've caught my eye as to how pretty they are...but is the quality that bad?

They are a fun, toyish watch not a daily beater. If you go in with the right expectations you're unlikely to be disappointed, if you expecting a rugged tool you'll be upset.

·

If it were readily available I'd probably pick one up just to see what it's all about. Not sure how I'd actually feel wearing it though... I don't like a watch that's too light.

That's what I'm thinking..I guess it's that pretty girl with no personality..not one you take home to mom

If you can get past the velcro strap you end up with the easily scratched plastic crystal. Next the fragile plastic pushers, but on the upside it has a reasonable quartz movement. Its like an expensive McDonald's Happy Meal toy for adults. As Swatch chrono's go its priced higher.

·

Be better off buying an Alpha speedy with an ST19 or even Pagani design with a VK63 movement, stainless case, bracelet and sapphire crystal. Both are under $200 and no kid gloves needed.

Rubbish /.

I actually have the one pictured. The minute subdial does not reset to zero. It resets to 1. It drives me nuts. Other than that its fine as a toy honestly. Neat to have, but honestly Lego feels more durable.

Same. It's an OK watch. Light weight and stylish but more swatch than Omega despite having Omega printed on the dial and strap.

Is it worth the secindary market premium? Definitely not since you can wait until the hype dies down further.

Is it worth $250? It depends on what is your objective. If this is meant to be your collection's chronograph or rugged Beater or display of best in class quartz execution then there are other watches you can pursue. But if meant to be a celebration of creative marketing or the start of a fun trend (because this could easily continue with other collaborations on the horizon) bringing more people into watch collecting, then it does check that box.

https://usa.watchpro.com/audemars-piguet-ceo-lauds-launch-of-moonswatch-by-omega-and-swatch/?amp=1

François-Henry Bennahmias, CEO of Audemars Piguet, has singled out the creation of the MoonSwatch by Omega and Swatch as one of the great ideas to have come out of the normally conservative and risk-averse Swiss watch industry this year.

·

If you don’t expect an Omega for $250 you are fine.
Sure it’s more Swatch than anything.   You can easily change straps and have fun with them. Lens protectors are available.
I like them and I think it helps grow the love of actual watches, especially with younger folks.
Apple has been the go to for most.

It's the McRib of the watch world

·

It’s a fun part of my collection for sure. I put it on a nicer NATO strap that matches the colors of mine quite well. I’d say I wear it every couple weeks for a day. Yes you will want to be careful with it, yes you can get some very nice watches for that $260 that’ll hold up much better, and yes it feels like it came out of a cereal box. I like mine a lot but it isn’t for everyone. Just know what you’re buying when you buy one. It is about as far from a ‘tool watch’ as I’d measure.

·

Many other swatches I'd rather have

·

If you can buy one at retail, great! But you can't buy them at retail, so boo. If Swatch and Omega actually wanted to sell these things I'd have one already. But I want that Omega logo on my wrist, and I ain't paying 4 grand for the privilege.

·

yes your be disappointed. i think our expectations were taken to high

·

I’m too immature to handle that your watch can be a mission to Uranus. 😂

·

Heard it's a throw away toy.

·

All mothers have that look that speaks volumes where they don't have to say anything.

·

It would be a cool Swatch if it perhaps was at least half off and easier yo buy, as it stands now, it's a very expensive and hard to get Swatch.

That is adjustable.

I hate the strap: Mission to the Moon Swatch X Omega Moonswatch https://www.watchcrunch.com/stafford/reviews/swatch-mission-to-the-moon-review-13370

·

Not a big speedy fan, but these I dislike these even more since likely to last only several months before busting.

·

whistle and slink away with his fake Mission to Mercury Moonswatch

·

I bought a Pluto as well and yes, it is a plastic, non durable watch. But like all Swatches, it is fun and a good conversation piece. Dont pay over retail, this is an opportunistic purchase really if you happen to see a store that had them in stock.

·

I just got the mission to mars last night, and I have to say the quality is much higher than I expected. Every hand on the face is aligned and flush, pushers feel just fine and it's been very nice so far. Maybe a little over priced, sure. But you get what you pay for and a better strap replacement is only $17 and a month wait away. It's a worthwhile investment if you enjoy the looks of the 11 watches.

I checked one out recently was not impressed not for that price. I stick with a regular swatch ok for sure.

·

Great if not one of the best marketing coups in the history of the watch industry. Everyone wants one and all the others hate it. keep in mind it’s a swatch and will never ever be an omega. It’s built like a swatch and feels and wears like a swatch. Nothing wrong with that.
personally I think that there are way better watches out there at this price point. but none of the have stired up an entire  industry like the moonswatch.

because of the Moonswatch I bought a Merkur Pierre Paulin mechanical chronograph, just to see what I could get eve below the price of a moonswatch. And man was I impressed!

Great insight, I agree with everything you said.
Just checked out the Pierre Paulins..very pretty watches. Love the seagul movement as well. Thanks for sharing 👍
