Urgent dilemma. I got the call

A couple of months ago I was looking at watches to celebrate a new job. I put myself down on the list for this beauty and got the call yesterday.

Given it’s almost a year of mortgage payments I’m having second thoughts.

Do it or pass? I’ve until 1600 UK time to decide

Don't put yourself in financial stress over watches. Get something you'll enjoy wearing and not have to worry about scratching etc.

·

The fact you’re having second thoughts suggest you already know you can’t really afford it.

If you can’t simply write off this sum of money, you can’t really afford it.

Don’t put yourself in financial trouble for something as trivial as a wristwatch.

We know it’s a nice shiny thing but there will be other nice shiny things.

·

I didn't think this brand is for people with mortgages ?

·

Just put your self in the worse possible scenario financially and if you can still say I can afford it then go for it. Just make sure you insure the watch.

·

My advice would be dont fall for the marketing and hype bs, dont go in depth for a wristwatch. These watches are for people with more money than sense. It only makes sense if you buy it at retail and then flip it right away for a profit.

·

If your having second thoughts why not decline the watch and ask to be put on the list for a SS model and explain you didn't want to get it then flip it

My father used to lecture that I could not afford any pretentious toys as long as my family lived anyplace that was not mortgage free. My father in law further added that there should also be enough dollars for relevant repairs to the mortgage free home especially to look after the roof since there will always be rainy days. Of course my former Rolex ad friend who famously wore a quartz Seiko most days used to say that you can always sell a Rolex anyplace in the world.

·

What a beautiful watch, and can imagine the excitement! Be careful though if you are based in the UK. I believe these are now trading “under retail” with those pesky grey market dealers even for new. Just in case you needed to get rid of quickly, it might hit you in the pocket…

·

In looking at your lineup of watches, seems this isn’t your first rodeo with Rolex and other high end brands. That said, I believe you know what the best course of action is….good luck 🤙

·

Is this the exact model you put your name down for or did they offer you this one made of rose gold? If it’s not the model you asked for and it’s causing you to think about it financially, you’re better off without it.

·

Pass, buy a decent cheap homage that won’t get ripped off your arm by a bloke on a moped and spend the rest on a great holiday that you will enjoy and remember….. 👌🏻😉

·

If you can’t buy 3 of the same watch cash, I would advise to let it go and enjoy what you have now or go for a more affordable one. Watches are expensive toys and meant to be enjoyed.

It’s the one I asked for.

·

If you love it, get on the horse! Best part is you can always flip it

Don’t most people mortgage houses though? And 1/3 of the people with mortgaged houses I know have a Rolex.

·

Wow $67,000 us

·

Congratulations on being humbled and blessed! :)

I always went with the math of if you can afford to lose 2X the cost of a watch without financial hardship, then you can afford the watch.

·

Just pass if you think it will cause a struggle

·

Get it

·

Pass, lots of reasons. You probably were the 7th person they called after everyone else passed on it.

Kidding aside, it’s not my cup of tea. Gold Rolex to me is DD or Daytona. GMT is jubilee steel or

2 tone.

I’m sure you can afford it or wouldn’t have put your name down, so ignore those saying it sounds like you can’t. It sounds like you don’t like it or want it enough to pay what they are asking. That could be a multitude of reasons why, you don’t see the value, you love it, but just don’t want to spend that much even though you can, maybe it’s gone up at retail since you inquired, are nervous to wear that flashy of a piece and maybe it doesn’t get worn as much, taste change….

End of day I call BS on the dealers that impose a time limit, let someone else ruin their days stressing over a watch. My AD has told me this will be the case. Honestly, if I get a call which I don’t think I will, it’s been 1.5 yrs, if I’m in the vicinity I will pop in and see how it strikes me that day, if not I’m already leaning to pass and pass on trying to get there and pass on the price increases since I originally inquired.

I don’t hate the brand, the watch, or the AD, but I’m just not going to get caught up in it. I may go buy an Oysterquartz🤷‍♂️

Final answer, pass, sleep well and move on.

Microsoft + Bill Gates = Casio Duro 😀

Actually, with this LIW bracelet, this one costs more than Bill Gates’ Duro. 🤪

Responsibility is real. Don't subject yourself to unnecessary anxiety. 😇

Don’t finance a watch.

I am not a luxury watch owner, but it seems foolish. I look at these wonderful little gadgets with all the love, but I wouldn’t put myself into financial hardship to own one, and I’m terrible with money. I really REALLY want a rolex, but if it’s gonna keep food out of my child’s picky mouth, I won’t do it. I was saving up to buy one but it occurred to me that spending that much on one go on something that isn’t for the family or the house is just irresponsible for someone like me, and it breaks my heart.

Inspired by the recent Swatch Omega and Blancpain collaborations, Rolex has teamed up with Rolo to create the world's first edible watch. With its chocolate brown dial, pure sugar crystal, and premium gummy strap, if you feel guilty about your Rolex taking food out of your children's mouths you just feed it to them.

·

Delicious!

·

Buy what you can afford. You’ll be less stressed and happier.

·

It's a beautiful watch, but it's not a money maker, it sells below retail on the second hand... if it's money you won't miss and you really love it, do it...

I know a guy that has it and it's really nice, but he also has a bunch of Pateks and sold his company for $500 mil years back

Come on @Relvee, tell us, did you go for it??

Watch off the day Saturday. Tried it. Loved it. Can afford it. Ended up treating myself.

Unprecedented expenditure on myself
