Grand Seiko SBGM 221 GMT

What do you think about Grand Seiko? I went to a local dealer with a Grand Seiko concession today and put this beautiful GMT on my wrist. I find this model simply fantastic and have written it at the top of my wish list.

I’ve seen this one in person a few times. It’s gorgeous.

·

That’s a nice dressy gmt! You don’t see that often.

·

I want one. That is the ONLY GS offering that appeals to me aesthetically. too bad it doesnt have a high beat or spring drive.

·

Beautiful watch. In almost every case the pictures doesn't do the GS models justice, you really have to experience them in person to appreciate how well made they are. The level of detail in finishing is phenomenal.

·

It’s a gorgeous watch! The day I drove 4 hours to my nearest GS AD to see and purchase the Snowflake I saw one and tried it on. For a minute there I considered getting it instead!

·

Yeah I think it’s an underrated watch that seems to be getting a little more attention lately

·

I think my GS ad calls this particular model his bread and butter or bread and olive oil since he is from Italy. I wanted high beat and spring drive so this was a pass for me but guys who can afford a handful usually have sourced one to begin with.

·

Man I would love it. But I would love it a little more if it were a caller GMT. Cream dials are 🤤🤌

·

Beautiful GS GMT

I was "eh" on GS because, you know, not Swiss, but having been in the game for a while now I'm starting to become a convert. This model in particular has gone a long way in helping my conversion, in addition to recently purchasing a KS and seeing the possibilities of Japanese finishing.

·

I have this model and love it. The only problem I have is that is back at the GS service center getting some warranty work done. So I haven’t been able to wear it in a while. I’m eagerly awaiting it’s return.

·

Whoa. Get it!

·

I never understood the fascination about Grand Seiko’s… it’s just Seiko’s…

🤣😁😜

·

This model and the SBGW231 are two of my favorites from the brand. While not cheap, Grand Seiko gives you so much for your money compared to lots of the larger Swiss brands. I’ll never try to talk someone out a Grand Seiko.

I still have yet to see one in person...I think it will be a wrap once I do

I see… I think the case height and dimensions aren‘t the same as they use a Seiko movement though

hmm… maybe just try it. worst case you‘ll have a nice homage for your vacation or whatever ;)

I saw one in Germany at 3995 and I am very nervous 😉

You are "buying the dealer" usually the dealer provides a warranty. Also does the watch have papers, box, and can it be registered with the manufacturer?

So far I have been working with Watchbox and Sarasota watch.

Flip the conversation around; if the watch is a keeper and something special then you can buy from an authorized dealer and not think about the depreciation.

·

The nicest GS I've seen. Loves me a cream dial.😄

Here in Germany, the watch costs 5000€ at the local dealer and on Chrono24 it starts at 3995€, that's already a difference, for the same watch, new, unworn, box and papers. You have to think about it or at least talk to the dealer about the price 😉

Then I'll just say congratulations and I wish you a lot of fun with your new watch and take good care of it😉

Also, tariffs and customs would be an issue.

There is a watch I want from "Union Glashutte" called a Noramis date but that watch is not available in the US. I don't want any customs issues.

I bought my 1st one last month from an AD

Wow, the watch looks fantastic and especially the dial.

·

i like the blue hand, but i need a little bit more flash or pizazz or color etc since i already have a nice dress watch.

·

This is my next purchase.

Fingers crossed. A friend is going to Japan in a few months. Gonna see if he can pick me up one. The question is what'd be a reason price to expect in Japan. Sakura $3,639.
