It really just depends on the execution. There are so many options. Some done well and some done terrible.

Always buy what you want. Don't let the talking heads tell you what you should like. The journey is all about you not impressing other people.
I have the SSK005. I don't wear it much but both of these are great options for the price. The NH34 is a game changer for Seiko. I build a lot of mod watches, have yet to do one with the nh34 but love the idea when I find the right one.
