Thinking about downsizing to 4 watches

Hi everyone,

Just thinking out loud and would be curious to hear your way of collecting.

I currently own 8 watches and despite feeling the need for a Cartier to complete my collection , I also think that I could/should downsize to just these 4 watches and be done .

Anybody done that before ( selling half of your collection) and not looking back?

Yes you need a lighter dial watch get rid of the explorer and give it to me….

😜 it is a boring dial anyway

·

I ve sold a whole lot of my gshocks (ok, no comparison to your collection) i knew i wouldn t wear any longer, but despite the sheer loss of money i didn t miss the most of 'em (though i haven t seen them a lot of time before selling)- so i get room for new stuff

·

Done that before? - Yes.

Not looking back? - Well…. Not that I miss the watches I parted with but can’t stop wanting another😅

·

How are you going to get by with just one Seiko diver? You should send me the BB and get another Seiko.

·

Swap the Tudor for a Sub and the Seiko for a Cartier and that’s the perfect collection for me.

·

I would recommend selling all that you don't wear and will not miss. The fact you are considering doing so makes your decision easier. As for collection I would agree a dress(ier ) watch such as Cartier would complete the collection, either as addition to 4 above or to replace one expesive sport watch ( I would go with Tudor as you have a great diver in Seiko )

Nah I find the BB58 more interesting. I’d agree swap the Seiko for a dress watch but not sure which one. Depends on budget.

·

I like the idea and think if you replace one of the divers with a tank you have a perfect 4 watch collection. Pretty close to what I have in mind for myself. Speedy, Tank, Seiko diver + datejust is where I will hopefully end up soon (or let's say whenever I get the call from my ad). I am thinking of selling my Baltic Aquascaphe so I do not have diver redundancy. And my g-shock doesn't really count :D

·

I sold three & gave away three and now have six ! I think I will probably end up with eight ! But no more after that ….. 😜

·

I’ve done the same thing- I’ve downsized from basically a hoard of watches to 4 and I’ve enjoyed the experience much more - I’ve bonded with these watches as I’m actually wearing them. It’s also made me much more disciplined in this hobby so if I add in the future I’ll hopefully make more thoughtful choices - I think you’ll be very happy !

yeah, agree, the black bay is not moving. As for a dress watch, I don't have no use for them. I would wear a tank, but with t shirt and jeans

great to hear and motivates me to go in the same direction. what are the 4 watches in your collection currently?

I always wear my Tank casually on the bracelet. I think it looks great like that.

·

The moonswatch and explorer are keepers, unless you don't really like them or like the others more instead. It really depends on what you want or use

·

Do it and get out if you can.

·

Depending on what the rest of the collection looks like of course. I do however think the 4 watch collection is the perfect size. You also have some wiggle room with your BB58 and Seiko. Could always trade those out for other things. Maybe a Cartier and a Sub? You do have a very nice collection currently. 👍🏻👍🏻

Oh yes, this collection looks so good. We definitely share the same taste in watches and philosophy of collecting. I tried on the sbgw291 and it is a stunner. Maybe a little bit too dressy for me. There is something very rock n roll about the tank 👌

For me the bb prois just too big in height, I would definitely recommend a 54 or 58

Had the bb58, but gifted it to a friend when I got the pro. I hear you about the tank. I do like how it can be super formal, but also wears well more casually. I’ve also considered going:

  • tank

  • sbgw291

  • explorer

  • bb54

But I have a feeling the two dressier watches would wind up sitting in the watch box collecting dust 🥲

·
Perudo

Actually, why not! An explorer 2 could be it…

You'll cover all the bases! Diver, GMT, Chrono, time only 3 hander

·

I’ve caught myself in the same thoughts lately. I’m currently rotation between 8, but really only wear 4 of them. Some of the 8 are very sentimental though so they will not be going anywhere, but I’m def working on pairing down the collection to pieces I really enjoy and are highly functional

Bb58 over sub any day

I've downsized to only 150 now, and I can't reduce it any further. Just can't do it.

😁 that must be a very organized rotation to wear them all

·

That’s a great four watch collection. I would add a dressier watch like a Tank, Reverso or IWC Portuguese and be done.

I’m up to four watches (plus the obligatory G-Shock) and find it works for me. My obvious gap is something dressier too but it wouldn’t get much wear so I’m holding off for now.

If you don’t dress up a lot, the Explorer is more than dressy enough.

·

I sold 8 watches and now have a more wearable 4 watch collection. I don't miss any of the watches I've sold. I enjoyed them when I had them but moved on, and I don't enjoy "larger " collections, particularly when I rotate between 3-4 watches. Personally I don't see the attraction of a box of watches I don't wear.

·

Downsizing?

I have no idea what you mean.

😏

·

In my opinion, you have a chronometer, a go anywhere do anything, and two divers. Dump the Tudor, keep the Seiko. Buy the Cartier. Solid 4 watch collection covering all four categories.

·

Good luck friend... The selling part yes, not so challenging... The not looking back part nah, never succeeded too much temptation 😅

I think 4 watches for a collection is a reasonable number, but diversity in style and colors shall provide more satisfaction 👌🏻

·

If you can downsize and be happy with that go for it man! But in my opinion in your watch collection it lacks one colorfull watch and a dress one, a part from that you have a killer collection man! It would be hard to choose between that 4 watches..
