GMT!

Hi all, right now I own two watches in my collection: a Seiko Presage SharpEdge (Ref: SPB169J1) & an Orient Kanno (Ref: RA-AA0914E19B).

To add to my collection, I'm currently looking for a GMT and it came down to these two watches: Christopher Ward C63 GMT and Formax Reef GMT. my criteria for watches are 40mm diameter max, 50mm lug to lug max, and if possible no thicker than 13mm. I was interested in a traveler GMT such as Longines Spirit Zulu Time GMT, but realize it was almost 14mm thick. I've tried to look for any other traveler GMT that fits my criteria, but haven't found any 😢

Anyway, do you guys have other suggestions on other GMT that fits my criteria, or maybe anyone who owns any of the two watches can share their experience? thanks in advance!

The Zodiac Super Sea Wolf GMT fits in your parameters... I think.

The Aqua Terra 150 m 38mm GMT fits the bill with a much higher price tag... you can search pre-owned

I think Sinn makes a 40 mm case GMT- also Ball ... maybe Baltic?

Budget also is a key factor. I'm al over the place on prices here . Hope something is helpful

·

These are up for order now and about the same price as the Fomex. While 40.7, it will wear much smaller due to other dimensions, especially being less than 12mm thick. They have it in a couple configurations.

Image

For a little less money, you can not go wrong with Farer. Again it is <41, but only 44 L2L.

Lastly, on the cheaper side, you can get a Zodiac Super Sea Wolf in almost any color. Suggest getting used/like new as they take a massive hit.

thank you for the recommendation! is the AquaTerra the world time? my budget would be around 1k-2k, so even the Formex is right at the peak. but I'll check those watch out.

I've seen Ferer, was on my long list before ending up with the last 2 watches I mentioned above. anyway, thanks for the recommendation, I'll check Monta & Zodiac out!

Certina makes a few GMT models that would be worth checking out, but they are 43mm and 12.60mm thick. Very hard to beat them on price.

Mido also have the Oceanstar GMT line, but then you're talking 44mm. Cracking watch though.

·

Why not wait until some of the new models with the Miyota 9075 come out?  Jack Mason for instance is getting ready to launch a new one with that movement.  It’s been discussed several times on here.

probably this glycine airman 40 no1

or squale 30 atmos gmt

that formex seems cool too

·

I have recently fallen in love with Formex Reef GMT.  That's my vote.

·

i love my Zodiac GMT, but given the choice I would have gotten a REEF instead. The bracelet on the Zodiac GMTs is not great, and if you’re buying a used one MAKE SURE THE GMT HAND IS ALIGNED BEFORE YOU BUY. I own a Formex Essence 43 and they provide more quality than you pay for.

Na, I have the Mido and it wears every bit of 44mm. It's a big watch. I don't think it'd fit the criteria.

I'm not a fan of how chunky the Formex is. The Christopher Ward is the much better looking watch of the two.

Here's one you maybe haven't seen. It also comes in a brown dial.

39mm case diameter. 20mm lugs. 48.5 lug to lug. Grade 2 titanium with scratch resistant coating. 12.3mm thick. Seiko NH34 GMT Movement. The more "affordable" movement might be the only drawback to this watch, but it sure looks great and only about $505US plus shipping and duty and whatever, very affordable. There are no reviews of this particular watch yet because it's new and available for pre-order (that's the pre-order price), but there are a fair number of reviews of their Huldra dive watch and they look really good.

Otherwise I vote for the CW. Great looking watch, though personally I like the Aevig more, but it's not my watch, right?

·

I'll cast my vote for the Christopher Ward C63 Sealander GMT, since I just picked up the new logo Polar version about a month ago. Couldn't be happier with it- it's so much watch for the money. I really like the black dial version, but since I have a dozen black dialed watches I felt I needed some diversity.

·

I kinda love the look of the Formex reef GMT particularly on the mesh bracelet. It's like a nautilus and a ploprof had a baby.

If we're going for more classic shapes and colors, I'd probably look at the Monta Skyquest like @AllTheWatches suggested or wait for the new Miyota powered Jack Masons.

I have two

I was defending these in another thread recently, but the Islander Republic is a good value proposition currently at $895, a good few hundred cheaper than others with the same movement (such as the C63 Sealander). 40mm and 12mm thick. Three colour options but the black and blue dials are probably the pick.

Thanks for the Recommendation. I have to check the lug to lug on the Certina & Mido Oceanstar GMT if it's over 40mm, probably still too big for my wrist tho😭

Interesting, first time hearing Jack Mason, must have missed those discussion threats. It nice clean watch, with a very affordable price. sadly it's out of stock right now. but thanks for the recommendation!

Saw the glycine airman, it was on my long list though I think CW has a cleaner design. I'll check Squale atmos GMT, looks cool! Thanks!

Nice! was really considering the green dial CW, but as I already have 2 green dial watches, I think I need a more versatile one in my collection. also, I think I prefer the logo design more than the "Christopher Ward" name on the dial.😜

@MegaBob Thanks for the tag.

@Mmulia I am pretty new to WC and have been introducing our 7 year old brand to the community here as we transition Jack Mason into more offerings for enthusiasts. Our upcoming GMT will be the the first big step into stepping up our game with more serious movements. It will indeed feature the new Miyota 9075 true GMT movement and we should be one of the firsts to market with it. The specs are in a few other threads I've started, but feel free to DM me for more details! We are planning for a mid October pre-order.

Feel free to catch up on the design process here. We created a video series that walks you through how we operate and what goes into designing an original watch. Only a couple more episodes left and we will reveal the watch!

after watching some of your vids on youtube, I'll be following your journey in making this GMT watch😉

Can't go wrong with the Formex or the Christopher Ward (or zodiac). All are well done and high quality. I have both (regular reef not the GMT, though). I also have a zodiac GMT. The Formex is on a different level to the other two in terms of finish and attention to detail. The bracelet is also the best of the 3 by a good margin. The design of the Reef isn't for everyone (what watch ever is?) but if you like it, go for it. It wears beautifully on my 6.75" wrist.

I have a 6.9" wrist, so if these watches work for you, they should work for me too! 😀 thanks for the wrist shot!

Saree1968

The two watches you're considering are quite fine watches. Between the two I would opt for CW. However, IMHO neither is a "traveler's" GMT as the Sellita SW330-2 movement is, as far as I know, a "caller" movement.

I have recently purchased a Rado that fits your criteria (including the "traveler" feature). You can read more here:

https://www.watchcrunch.com/Saree1968/posts/the-gmt-conundrum-solved-14987

Happy watch hunting!

yep, I did want a traveler GMT, but I couldn't find one that fits my criteria and has a design I like. so I decided to stick with called GMT, as long as I really like the design and fits me well. but as I still haven't bought any of these watches, I think the door is still open :p

I saw some pictures of Rado Centrix UTC, the design didn't really speak to me, but thanks for the recommendation!

·

Cool! I did consider the green dial variant, but I have 2 green dial watches, so I opt for a more versatile color. Yep, all the Pros are why I wanted to get CW 😀anyway, thanks for the review!

I've been very satisfied with my Maen Greenwich 38, think it's a great GADA watch, and pretty affordable!

Surprised no one mentioned a GS SBGN003, did i miss something?

I saw the review of this watch after replying some of the comments earlier today. the size seems right, the price though, its higher than both Formex & CW😅

·

I suggest the sealander or the super sea wolf gmt, for me you can’t go wrong with either

·

There are very few travelers gmt watches at this price point. Mido offer one, but then you're breaking your sizing parameters. For what it's worth, I have 2 Chirstopher Ward watches (Colchester and Highlander); Both keep exceptional time. I cannot speak first hand on the Formex, however all reviews are solid and it's an attractive watch. If you get bored easily at least you can change up the look on the Formex.

Good luck, both are great.
