The GMT conundrum - solved!

Hi Crunchers,

I have been busy lately with a somewhat challenging and time consuming task: finding a new automatic "traveller's" GMT, with a dial no bigger than 40mm, retailing under 1000 USD.

In all candor, when I began to look for one I presumed that finding it won't pause much of a problem: there are a so many GMT watches out there these days, are they not? Well, turns out that at that price tier, 90% of them are "caller" GMTs, and the few ones that aren't - a Certina, a couple of Mido pieces, the new Bulova Wilton GMT along with other watches that will feature the much discussed Miyota 9075, and the Tissot Chemin des Tourelles GMT which can currently be purchased under 500 (!) USD - all have 41mm or bigger dials.

Finally a solution was found - the Rado Centrix UTC automatic. This timepiece, featuring ETA'a C07.611 movement (which is called Rado 771 in this case), is a rather dressy watch, with rose gold hands (except the GMT one) and indices. Sapphire crystal is used both to cover the dial and in the see-through back case. It beats at 3HZ and therefore has a power reserve of up to 80 hours, which is nice to have, and a rather disappointing 30m water resistance, which is not.

Above all, it has a 40mm dial, and is currently retailing at prices ranging between 700 and 900 USD.

I have received it yesterday and may publish a full review of what seems to be a unique proposition piece at a later stage.
