Would you rock the OP at retail?

That was the question I set for myself when I borrowed my friend's turquoise OP. It was hard to see past the hype, but here's my attempt!

I think it would be great for every day use and I like how pure it is, there’s no extra anything

Yeah it's actually a really honest watch. Let's hope we can get it at honest prices soon 🤞

·

what a catchy title, however it is not discontinued!

the watch you presented is still in the catalog, which doesn't mean that you can get it^^

·

Not even at 50% off retail.

·

Not even at 100% off retail 😏

Yes only the 41 is discontinued... I needed a title response to Watchfinder's "this is the BEST watch Rolex makes" 😉. Excuse the artistic license

Not even at 50% off retail.

I would say that at 50% list price it would start to be interesting. Would I rather go for a Sinn if I wanted rugged elegance in that price category? Yeah, probably.

·

Yes I would. Is a classic timeless design. Versatile, good looking, resistant.

I really like Rolex watches but I don't like Rolex and what surrounds it...

·

Maybe at 25% off retail, and definitely not in the silly turquoise.

·

Yes

·

It’s a phenomenal piece. 100% worth it.

·

Yeah, in 41 mm with the black dial.

·

I like the 39mm.

·

If that watch does not go with an outfit your wife will tell you so and you will go with a GS instead. Besides that color came out in the early 70s and didn't last long on peoples houses. Pastels are pretty ...for a while but lose their luster quick.

·

Yes- If I didn't get a choice. The OP is cool and all but if you think about its price range at retail there are so many watches that I'd buy before the OP. Explorer, Speedy, Railmaster, etc

·

I picked up an OP from an AD in July 2020 just before the freakin' boom hit, and yeah, list price. Great experience, great watch. There were few Rolex SS models anywhere at that pont and I was able to find one in a smaller town not too far from me. Worth the experience, soup to nuts. Caveat: The watch was from the 2015 model line.

·

It would be in the mix at it’s $5k price point. I doubt tourquoise would be my choice, but it does look good in pictures. Given the price inflation of this brand, I can easily wait until it’s routinely available. Also ok if that’s never!

·

These were around for barely two years, so when I heard that they discontinued some of the most popular ones, all I could think was, what are they playing at? Ty “retiring”Beanie Babies came to mind.

·

There are so many great watches even at OP's retail I'd probably pass on it. If I really wanted that Rolex logo, maybe. But I'd probably save up and go DJ instead.

·

Yes and no. Well... Not really. First of all, I do like some Rolexes. There's no denying that the basic OP and the Explorer I are some of the most versatile watches out there. Their design is simple, but iconic. And the engineering is top notch.

However, I really deplore the brand - its nasty attitude, complete and utter lack of respect for prospective buyers, corrupt ADs, knowingly feeding the grey market grifters... Seeing that people's nasty experiences at their ADs and boutiques are regular, I conclude they don't just know about it, they condone it. Long ago, Rolex was a forthcoming and caring brand. Now they're just about the most insufferable case of not giving a damn.

Then there's the issue of safety. Rolexes are instantly recognizable, and lately it's not uncommon to hear about people getting mugged over their Rolexes. I see no fun in wearing something that could cost me my life. Will I ever have enough to buy a new Rolex? Probably not, but if I would, I'd still rather not buy one, be it the OP or any other Rolex. I would feel like I've got a "rob me" sign stuck to my back. Thanks, but no. There's no point in owning a watch that has to be feared for - there is no fun in such a liability.

Agreed 100%. World is too dangerous.

Stealth wealth is the way to go!

There are folks on here who’ve posted wrist shots of $100k watches, and NOBODY other than hardcore enthusiasts would have any idea what they were.

Take a look at this dude. If you didn’t know who he was, would you have any idea that he’s one of the richest people in the world?

Me too!  Pretty much the perfect watch size 👌

Agreed!

·

OP is a fabulous watch made by total douche bags.  I can't bring myself to pay a single dime that is going to make it's way back to Rolex but if it someone else's money or bought used I would wear it.

·

I bought my OP39 blue NIB unworn in March 2020, for just under retail, $5250 out the door from watchbox.  Came fully stickered and perfect.

Grey market USED to be the way to go but those days are gone.

·

Can we all agree that @Max needs some color in his wardrobe that is not supplied by a friend's watch? This monochromatic look makes me think that he is atoning for wearing a bright red track suit all through high school.

·

I would probably buy it but there are better choices IMO.

·

At retail just $6150 is a lot of watch!  I will pay $3K above retail.  But anything after $10K I will pass.  I would rather spend $10k on different watch brand.  Example I will buy a Zenith chrono with the ceramic dial instead.

·

So many other great brands out there besides Rolex and at far better prices, so it's a definite no from me. Give me an Omega or even a Sinn any day 👍

·

Nice watch but would not give Rolex the time of day. How can anyone buy from a company who tells you to your face that they make absolutely no commitments of any kind to the customer? This company simply does not matter to me. Ironic reciprocity you can say.

Well said.  👏
