Slimmed down collection

Hello Crunchers,

I've recently slimmed down my collection by letting 8 watches go and adding 2 and I'm now down to 6, which I feel is a more manageable number and allows me to wear all of my collection.

It hurt to let some of my collection go and I never thought I would, but being honest with myself, I wasn't wearing them enough. Moving forward I'm probably going to stick with 6 as a collection, so if I get my eye on something new, I'll have to let one go!

I was just wondering if anyone else has gone through the same delimma. If you have a big collection, do you wear them all? Have you had to let a treasured piece go to enable you to fund a new purchase and then regretted it?

Cheers,

Mark.

I'm still building my collection. Right now it is sitting at five timepieces, but I would like to stop at six, eight at a maximum. I don't realistically believe I'd be able to wear more watches consistently and it would bother me not being able to do so :/

Nice watches by the way!

I’m always debating if I should do this just trade a few for some strong contenders but I dunno I’m a wuss… I feel I will miss them… but maybe I should… hmm maybe not… hmm

Maybe I should

😜

I have a big collection, but I don’t wear them all. I was a little gung-ho when I first started and accumulated a few watches that are nice, but I’d sparsely wear.

I’ve let a few go, but none of my treasured prices. I know I have to keep cutting back though 😬

I know what you mean, I let go a few nice Omega's (No Time to Die, Planet Ocean Chrono and the Seaweed Green Seamaster), they all hurt, but helped fund my Hulk and Batgirl. I really regret the green Seamaster as it was stunning, but I think the Hulk beats it. (mmm possibly)!!!

You are brave my friend, I will eventually will have the courage to the same…🍻

I keep it to what can fit in my box. If I need another, one has to go. I kinda miss my Monaco seeing your pic.

Mark, I want to be straight with you regarding my previous comment:

I'll take them all!

·

I’ve got a 12 watch watchbox. But my excuse is that I have some cheap first watches and rescued heirlooms that I won’t sell. 😉

·

I limit myself to 12 watches, and I wear about 10 of them. (They are not as expensive as yours, but I like them. Maybe someday I’ll buy that Omega Aqua Terra!)

Of the two that don’t get worn, one of them is grandpa’s Gruen. It is my dress watch, but I don’t dress up often. However, it will always have a home in my watch box. The other unworn watch is going on eBay.

I haven’t sold many watches that I liked (yet). There is the Bell-Matic. I adored that watch but didn’t adore frequent trips to the watchmaker. I sold it, but I sometimes wish that I hadn’t.

We are quickly approaching a day when buying a new watch means selling a watch that I genuinely like. 😬😬😬

·

Wow great collection

·

I kind of understand what you want to do. As years go by I find myself with more expensive items, so I tend to forget the older ones. In general, I started selling the ones I don't wear but not the ones that got me started. A gucci quartz (present from my father in the 90s) and 2 timex quartz pieces. They have no value anyway, but I keep them just to remind me where and when I jumped into the rabbit hole :)

Regrets: The only thing I could regret selling, could be:

1) a super rare item you cannot easily replace, none of those in my collection.

2) a watch which can be now had for X$ & by the time you want to buy it again, the prices have placed it out of reach. Good examples would be the Hulk, RO, Overseas and above all FP Journe, Gronefeld etc.. Lots of collectors seem to have found their selves into this position.

lean and mean! which one is the beater? 😂

·

Excellent collection with some real heavy hitters!

I'm still in the "adding" phase, but maybe that'll change when I get the call from my Rolex AD. That might move me into "sustain", but I don't see any reducing any time soon.

·

Nice six pack, your collection has spent some time in the gym!

I know the feeling from 14 down to 8, but 3 watches are not in my rotation.

·

It really is a first world problem that your best not exploring too deep 👍

·

i though I could stick to a 6 slot watch box and now I have a med sized apache case housing my mostly quartz thrift shop finds. I think I might have a proble., I still have 12 spots left in the case.

I don't think I'll ever sell any of my watches. For one thing, I only have 8 watches currently. But even when I attain more, I am sure that I will be able to wear them. Yes, I will probably wear some more than others, but all of my watches get wrist time, and I can't imagine that will ever change. (Click here for details.)

Having said that, I would imagine that after the 20-watch mark, I might start getting pickier with new acquisitions, and I could easily imagine stopping completely at the 30-watch mark. Why? Simple: when you have 30 watches, you can wear 1 a day, and not wear the same watch for a month. I think that realistically, that would be the "sweet spot" for me. Ok, maybe 31, since every other month has an extra day. 😎

What about the months with 31 days?

Re-read the last line of my comment 😃

Thanks for all your responses crunchers. It's been really interesting to hear other people's views on collection size and letting some watches go, in order to fund a new purchase.

Appreciate it. 👍

·

I’ve recently begun doing the very same thing. I’ve traded in some infrequently worn pieces for watches I’ll wear more often. It’s an ongoing process.

·

Since the beggining of the year I’ve reduced my collection from 24 to 13 watches.

·

Love your collection! I’m still just at the beginning, having just gotten my second 'real' watch (+ 2 Casios). Nice, curated selection! 😎

I've been thinking the same about my collection. I have 30+ and I should really slim it down to less than 10 at least. My main thing is I like having the selection and a bunch of my watches are just different variations/colors of the same reference so they'll work with different outfits.

I too select watches to match!😎

I feel sometimes is the only reason to have a collection....women have lots of jewelry.🙄 to match!

·

I absolutely love the Hulk. Want one sooo bad. Great collection!

·

I had 12 and I am also down to 6. I may get down to 3 some day

·

Nice collection! I see you have a sporty collection there , some heavy hitters! 💪🏻

I get where your coming from I’m on 6 at the moment myself , and i hate it that I didn’t wear some as much as I’d like, the most special one is the one I wear the least not because it’s the most expensive it’s because it’s the most rare I’ve got buts it’s all red so it’s not versitale enough 😣. For the collection I try to tick of a lot of boxes for different environments.

·

Can't say I have ran it too this problem yet, although I only have 3 although number 4 won't be far away.

Stunning collection, all amazing... But there is something special about that monoco sat in the middle being framed by all the others 🤩

·

Im at 30+ and feel like I should bring it down to 1 box. I just have a hard time selling them 🤣
