Is a gmt necessary in a watch collection?

No.

No watch type, or complication is necessary in a collection. Don't fall into the trap of buying watches you don't really like just to tick a few boxes in some influencers "perfect collection".

·

Not necessary just cool to have like any other complication

I've been thinking about gmt watches a lot lately. #islander just released thier first traveler gmt and they look absolutely amazing. I sat there hovering over the "add to cart" button and thought, I have no need for a gmt whatsoever. I got wrapped up in the beautiful design and colorways. A long rant just to say no, you do not need a gmt but if you just want one ... have at it! Cheers

No GMT or wristwatch is necessary, no collection also, you can see the time perfectly on your cell phone. That said, as a collector, it is one of my 3 watch complications that I like the most and I do have 3 GMTs.

·

Nothing is necessary. Get what you like.

·

The answer is no, but GMT is my favorite complication (and I rarely leave my time zone lol)!

Not every watch type is needed in a collection.

On GMT specifically - it's just not a complication that I find interesting or useful. But plenty like the look of them, and after I bought >75% of my watches due to how they look.

·

I have a GMT because it’s shiny and blue. I don’t need to know other time zones.

·

I have two GMT watches, one ‘travel’ one ‘office’. Both are part of my budget sub collection. It’s a nice complication to have and play with. But unless you jet between Paris and NYC on the regular you’ll probably rarely need to use it. Actually, I’m glad I scratched this itch within my budget collection. I’d probably rather not pay a premium on a luxury watch for a GMT. I don’t use it enough to justify either the cost or the added service cost.

Not one particular type of watch is required to be in a personal watch collection. It's that person's collection, it's for them. If they want every single color of an F-91 and that's it, that's their collection

If you are a museum curator telling a story of wristwatches, then yeah, probably.

·

Necessary?... only if you are in the Airline pilot business -OR you are a [very] frequent traveler; or perhaps conduct business across timezones. Otherwise, just a neat and somewhat useful complication to have in a wristwatch.

·

Not at all..I have no automatic watches iny collection and not looking at dress or gmt watches either.

But what you like not what think you need 👍

·

Absolutely 💯

·

I'm stating the obvious but no watch is necessary.

·

Nope.

·

No.

·

Nowadays, watches are object of one's endearment, so it is a NO. But if you like it, go for it and it is easier to flip the wrist than to reach the pocket for your phone.

·

It is up to the collector. I'm interested in getting different movement types, so fo me, yes. I'm interested in having both GMT movement types, traveler and office (have just office right now). I'm also interested in a regulator, jumping hour, ... But that is me.

·

Not necessary.

I never use the GMT function.

There’s an app on the iPhone that tracks a million timezones.

·

Not really

·

My excuse for a GMT is my in-laws are overseas.😜😜😜

·

“Necessary” is irrelevant when it comes to watch collecting.

·

Hell no. If you don't want it, don't buy one. Buy what you like. I don't need a GMT, I use my Bezel on my Qs and M79s to track another time zone if I need to or set a timer. It works just as good and is easier (for me). I think if you travel a lot it can certainly come in handy, but I'm a homebody and I don't see how it would fit in my quiet and simple life. Take this advice where it came from, I'm a simple guy who collects Timex, the most simple watch out there.

·

Not necessary but a great piece for travel and if you are back and forth quite a bit. I'm on the East Coast for a few months but I keep PST time on my GMT and it makes me feel like I'm not that far away.

·

It depends on your reasons for collecting. Not every collector is interested in acquiring all of the varied complications. Are you?

·

You don't need a GMT for your collection to be complete, but you DO need a GMT for your heart and soul AS a collector to be complete 🤪

·

No.

·

No. Nothing is necessary besides watches you like.

·

I say no. If you want a GMT by all means get one. I don't dislike GMT's I just don't have a use for one so I see no need to buy one. I only buy watches I like and that appeal to me.

·

Doesn't have to be a traditional GMT complication either.

If you are looking for something practical to move seamlessly between time zones, try the Omega Globemaster or any of their other models with the cal. 8900 or 8500. Both have a jumping hour hand that is set without hacking the movement. My Aqua Terra GoodPlanet with the cal. 8500 is my "go to" watch when travelling.
