There were two actually. The first is the Breitling Navitimer. I thought that watch was the coolest thing as a teenager. But later on in life when I really got into watches, the Omega Planet Ocean Goodplanet GMT was the watch that really caught my eye. I love the blue and orange colorway and I think the PO design is close to perfection. But alas, the 43.5mm sizing with 17mm thickness is too big for my wrist and I've never bought the watch.
The general population associates that feature with Rolex, trust me. I did before I got into the hobby. I had no idea that other manufacturers did it. That's how well Rolex is known for it.
What do you find annoying about it? I've never had a Rolex, so functionally I cannot speak to that feature, but I can tell you that is a tell tale sign of a Rolex from a layman's perspective. That's why they probably don't go away. It's iconic and very much Rolex so for those looking to project onto others, that's a element of the watch that certainly does it.
