Pink Is My New Obsession - Monta Noble (#1WC)

I have painstakingly made a point to NOT look at anyone else's entries into today's #1WC post so as to not be influenced by other people in describing why the Monta Noble should be the choice for the winner of the 2023 #1WC challenge.

First off, this wasn't the watch I was going to go with. I was originally going to go with my Omega Aqua Terra, which I lovingly refer to as "Zoolander" because my version is the blue steel variant.

However, because I wear that watch almost 75% of the time, I needed to challenge myself and to do so, I picked my most recent addition to the collection, the Monta Noble in pink. I mean, who wears a pink watch 31 days straight? Could I even do it?

And this is why the watch should win. First, wearing this watch for 11 straight days, no strap changes, no "nighttime" watches, nothing, has made me appreciate not only this watch, but each watch in my collection. It's also made me reconsider what I need and want in a watch.

The more I wear this watch, the more I want to wear it. At 38.5mm in diameter, 10mm thick and 45mm lug to lug, this thing wears like a dream. I'm afraid when I go back to wearing my Aqua Terra, I'll find the 41mm/13mm/48mm sizing ungainly. Second, having to wear a watch for 11 days straight has almost caused me to go minimalist. I am not lusting for my other watches as I thought I would be. I'm noticing new things about the Noble every day that makes me appreciate it more and realize I don't need 12 watches in my collection.

Finally, I'm really surprised by how versatile this watch has been. I've worn it gardening, swimming, with business clothes and shorts and a t-shirt and I've rocked it no matter what the situation. Never thought I would be able to say that about a pink watch.

The Disney villain that would be perfect for this watch is Ursula of Little Mermaid fame. First off, her skin complexion would be a great match for this watch. I wear my Noble with purple a lot and it looks fantastic. Second, this watch is so, so, pretty and it would attract Ariel to Ursula's lair because Ariel was attracted to pretty things owned by land-loving humans. She had a whole treasure trove of things collected and with 150m water resistance, this watch would still keep great time "under the sea". It's a win, win, for a Disney Villainess.

This reads very much like an appreciation of a watch after the competition is over. I remember thinking similar thoughts last year and reading them as various others dropped out.

The one thing the 1WC does seem to do is focus the collector on what they already have. It is a pause in the carousel that keeps us buying and selling.

Really loved your write up here. My Opaline dial Noble was the first “nice” watch purchase I made for myself a couple years ago and boy oh boy do I love that watch. Wears so great and is extremely versatile! Love the pink here!! If you haven’t met the Monta team yet, I highly recommend giving HQ a visit if you can. Cheers!

I kinda, sorta met the Monta team at Windup Chicago last year, but it was only in passing. But I'm going back there in two weeks and I'll be wearing this watch. I'm sure to have a longer conversation this time around. Thanks for the kind words.
