Date complication

Hi Crunchers.

Sorry for maybe a stupid question...

Has anyone here dealt with the absence of a date complication on their "every day," watch? I mean...I really use this complication on my watches and I fell in love with Tudor latest creation, new Black bay "monochrome", which doesnt have a Date.

Im not sure if I will be able to crack that...thanks for your thoughts...

The lack of a date is what has kept the BB58 from being the pretty much perfect watch for me (that and lack of a T-Fit clasp). I regularly check my watch for the date, and always get a bit annoyed when it's not there as I dig my phone out of my pocket.

·

I have. It drove me bonkers. I hate having to pull my phone out just to check a date. Also, a lot of places in my building don’t allow phones so if it’s the only way to get the date, then I have to ask somebody and that’s just silly. I hate talking to other people. 🤣

·

That’s one of the reasons why this one lives in my watch box until the weekends or until I’m off work.

I love that BB monochrome too but not as a daily watch because of the no date complication i need a date in my watch

·

I definitely prefer a date but I have a no date. You'll be fine

·

My daily watches are both without a date (speedy and OP). Never bothered me because I like the minimalistic design. I would personally prefer a no date sub over a sub date.

·

I do not think that BB58 is a perfect watch, but it is an excellent watch. And I do not miss the date compilation, because it is more struggle to me to see the small date then it is to look it up elsewhere. Especially because I need to do it just once a day.

·

I only need to check the date in the morning, on my phone or on my PC. So I'd rather not have a date window ruin the dial's symmetry when it's useless 99% of the day.

·

This probably sounds goofy, but my Bertucci watches don’t have a date complication, so when I wear them I use it as a memory exercise and memorize the date on my way to work and keep track of it in my head throughout the day. I feel that it helps keep my mind focused and improves my memory and awareness! 🤓

·

I've gotta have the date for me to wear the watch on the daily.

·

I have a phone so if by chance I can't add one to the previous day I'll have a quick look. I rarely bother changing the dates on watches that have a date complication.

You only have to be able to count to 31 and you can do without a date. 😉

Well that’s my first problem.

Well that’s my first problem.

For me it's the inability to retain information longer than a gold fish. I've been know to ask the date 3x completing one form 😎

·

I’ve been wearing a vario 1918 as an everyday watch for the past few months. The absence of a date hasn’t been an issue. I actually prefer the dial without it.

I love the symmetrical look of a no-date...but I find I use the date function a LOT in my everyday life. So no-date is fine for a "special occasion" watch but a date complication is a necessity for my everyday piece.

·

Absence of date window on watch dial doesn't make any difference as we have lots of options to check the same ...right from mobile to our personnel laptop and desktop, all equipment come with interface in which we can check not only date but month, year and temperature also...It also shows detailed clock also.... which doesn't mean that we should not wear watch on wrist...😀

·

As my eyes have aged, the small date complication on most watches are impossible to see at a glance, so I now pull out my phone and memorize the date in the morning. Now saving up for a DateJust for the magnified date 😅

·

Would prefer a date on a daily. Would only appreciate no date if it has to be placed at 4:30 like on 3 sub-dial chronos. 🤨

·

I’m conflicted. I like the functionality of having a date complication; on the other hand love a maintained symmetry when it’s absent. I do know though that if there’s date, have it framed. Just don’t give me a primitive cut out.

·

I have and tbh it’s not that hard to get used to, I had to get used to it because of buying my BB58 in blue. Once you’re over the period where you still go to read the date of your watch it’s actually pretty normal

·

Each to their own. It sounds like you really do use a date complication frequently though. So I will play devil’s advocate and say that you’re probably right. You may continually think about it and regret it eventually.

For me, I specifically sought after a no date complication for my most recent purchase and I love it. Love not needing to set the date on it. Pick up and go.

·

Always was a „date“ or even „day-date“ kind of guy. Since owning an Explorer 1 I enjoy the symmetry of the dial and that I don’t have to care about date-setting and if it’s 6am or pm :-) And don’t forget: if you don’t have one it’s a good reason why you should buy another watch and isn’t it this what we are here for? 😂😂😂

·

It looks fantastic without it.

Don’t worry, memorize the day, ask your friends or look at your phone and go for it 💪

·

Thank you for your thoughts...🙏

Reading through your comments, I can see 2-3 groups of watch enthusiasts.

1)Date is a must for daily use for me. I'm not willing to use mobile or PC to check a date as I have a watch for such a purpose.

2) Date is non-essential. I can check the date somewhere else or just remember it. Overall design and feeling from the watch are more important in the end.

3)Date window is a no-no on my watch. It compromises symmetry, legibility, and simplicity of the watch.

As I'm a member of group 1), I will probably say bye-bye to Black Bay and look around for something else... there is BB GMT or many other great watches... so let's see.

What caught my eye recently is the company STEEL REEF. I recommend checking their Instagram...

For me, it's the best fusion of "monochrome" design with the BB GMT watch, which I realy like...👍

BTW, what do you think about this customization? Does this compromise the watch overall, or is it okay for you?

·

Hate that complication myself, but here's a workaround for those that need one -

Use your bezel.

Click it round one notch in the morning to the number of the date

Easy, & if you regularly use your bezel fr timing things just return it back to the date when you are done.

·

Well now I don’t need it because I can’t reed it

·

Sometimes at the beginning of a month I ask someone to punch me really hard in the arm and then I just count each days number after that.

·

I don’t particularly need it but I really like a date function-if this had a date I would really be interested in this watch

·

My OP39 has no date complication and I love it for that. The dial symmetry is just perfect. But than I always find myself staring at the dial and searching for the date 😆🥲
