Rado, Longines, or Oris?

Which of these brands in the $2000 or under? I’m trying to make up my mind and keep going back and forth. Also, someone threw Formex into the mix.

Longines has more heritage and prestige than the other two, but Oris is the only one of the three of them that has managed to stay independent throughout its existence.

·

What are you looking for? A diver? Dress? A field? A chronograph? What matters more Heritage unique designs or out and out build quality?

·

Rado have (or had) some of the most elegant slim "rectangular" watches I seen, like...

But the homage from Jaques LeMans are also delicious dress watches...

And they cost "only" from 300 to 400 euro

I own an Aquis & a Big Crown Pointer Date & they are both great well made watches. Longines make some great watches as well & the movements tend to be higher spec than the SW200 you find in most Oris. Rado doesn't appeal to me as much & I think they are a bit overpriced, it does depend what sort of watch you are looking for though.

·

I like longines the best out of all 3

But to complicate the question I would take a Nomos over them all.

·

Longines Spirit 37mm. Case closed.

Longines HydroConquest; the amount of watch you get for 1500 or under depending on where you look is mad, comes in a range of colours. Great looking diver.

·

At the price point I think I’d lean towards Longines, or a micro-brand to get more bang for your buck.

At the $3k mark id lean more towards Oris with their 400 series calibers. The new 41.5mm Aquis with their in-house caliber has held a place in my mind for the last year or so.

·

I got a Rado for £100 second hand - it’s great for the money.

however I choose oris. The pointer date is brilliant. Paid about £1200 new with some discounts.

Out of those brands Oris will get my vote everytime just because it is hard to beat a big crown for lovelyness

·

Forget Rado and Formex. Flip a coin for Oris and Longines.

·

It's a toss up between Longines and Oris for me. The Rado design language doesn't speak to me. I prefer the Big Crown Pointer Date to the Spirit for similar type watches, but that's just me. If I was getting a diver, I'd pick the Aquis over anything Longines has. But Longines obviously makes a better dress watch and chronograph than does Oris. I think the Silver Arrow is a great watch and the Big Eye Avigation in titanium is an awesome watch, but that's closer to $3K than what you are shooting for.

I'll also throw Monta into the mix. They are very competive in this price range. They use slightly upgraded SW-300 movements, regulate them to +/- 6 seconds per day and the bracelet and finishing compete with or exceed other watches in this price category. I own a Noble and it's a great watch for $1800.

Oh, easy: Oris all the way. Their designs, business strategy, movements and conscious business model which support a lot of charities is very appealing to me.

I'm looking at the champagne dial. It's so hard to find 37mm and that's settling into my ideal size.

The champagne dial is certainly dressier but I felt legibility suffered. I would try and see them both IRL before making a call. Terrific watch though - the sizing is perfect and the case finishing and applied numerals are top notch.

·

For myself, the heritage of Longines tips it over. The fact that ETA makes custom movements also helps. I'm usually a big fan of 3rd party movements, but Longines does in house right. No deception about the origins, and longer power reserve.

I would love to do that, but I can't find a local dealer. Even Google maps didn't help 😂. Hopefully I get a chance soon.

Longines 200% I have a soft spot for Longines, dad has a really nice Longines since 1960's which hopefully will be one day mine. Today they make excellent watches but I agree this price range of the market is very crowded. My wife has had a Rado for 20yrs and it is still looking like new despite the fact she used to daily wear it. Oris has some great models too but Longines is KILLING it! Spirit 37 Silver dial, Master Collection Moonphase Chronograph, Legend Diver just to name a few on my wanted list!

·

Depends on the look and what you will use it for.

With my money, if these three, Oris.

I’ve owned Longines. For another grand, I’d get an Ultra Chron.

·

All good choices you can’t go wrong. I’d add Mido Seiko Presage/Prospex and some Nomos models for under $2000. Don’t worry about these brands, they’ll all be reliable and well built it only depends on which model speaks to you. Good luck.

·

My two grails are the Oris Aquis and Formex essence 39. Those are my picks.

·

Both of mine are great watches - Oris 43 Star Wars Aquis and a ceramic Captain Cook. The base captain cooks are great. Long power reserve and very good accuracy. Oris is fine brand as well, but the shorter power reserve and heavier weight is a little bothersome.

This is tough since Rado & Longines have great history but Oris has stayed independent til now and that holds a bit of an edge. All 3 have great build quality and it probably comes down to taste. I've owned all 3 and enjoy them 😎👍

Personally, I prefer Longines or Oris. Depends on the individual watch. Longines, in particular, makes great watches for the money, but for me, Oris’ design and independence gives them the edge.

·

Very different brands. I love the innovation of Rado & Formex. Rado is a bit too dressy for me…so, my vote is Formex.

·

Agree on the Oris, Formex, and Nomos votes!

·

I have a Longines HydroConquest in blue. So far it's been a great watch. The only thing I would change about it is the clasp. The diver's extension just doesn't do it for me.

·

Longlines for Heritage and value.

Formex for great value for price, comfort, and innovation.

Rado for style and Oris for a bit of a mix of everything.

Personally I'd go with Longlines or Formex. The question is, which specific watch gets you excited to wear?

·

That is a tuff one, I think either Oris or Longlines ftw
