📷 Weekly photography thread: Rest & Recreation
@hakki501 and I are resurrecting the weekly photography thread!
We used to run this a couple of months ago but it took a break while we organised the Scavenger Hunt and White Christmas.
How it works:
A theme is picked for each week and everyone can join in and post photographs around that topic.
As well as resulting in some amazing eye-candy for us all to enjoy it's also a chance for people like me to get some tips to up our photography game.

@hakki501 and I take turns in picking our favourites each week, so here are @hakki501s runners up from last time and his comments on each:
@Darkoverlord - loved the story behind his shots. His watch on his band logo was spot on.
@Sinnguy - loved his story of him being a lover of concerts, and his ability to keep in good condition nostalgic items of his past was cool.
@street.credor - loved his creativity of using "Inception" vibe plus BnW.
@IanCognito - his composition (perspective of piano keys + use of BnW), craftsmanship (depth of field, sharpness) was really great. It was trying to tell a story.
And here is what @hakki501 thought of the winning photo:
This is the clear winner since the composition and craftsmanship spoke of how music follows a cadence, just as a watch. What's more, it was as if I was transported to the time of Johann Sebastian Bach, as if I were watching him while he composed his music.
I will post the winning picture in next week's newsletter, but for now let's have fun with this week's theme: Rest & Recreation.

My photo is of me at the theatre a couple of months ago. I love the reflection of the lights in the crystal in this shot.

Resting in front of the fire with the doggies!
The brown one likes to lick the grey one's face. More specifically, she'll lick at the grey one's eyes... Like, she's licking up the eye goop that builds up on the corners of the grey one's eyes! On the one hand, it's absolutely disgusting! On the other, it's surprisingly sweet that she's grooming her sister so nicely. Dogs... sweet, but disgusting.

Super cool idea, this might be the thread for me. I've always struggled with storytelling in my composition/elements, but I'm slowly building different ways to set a watch up to tell its story.
But I think these two shots of watches in my collection show what my other hobbies are. Love this idea, hopefully I can participate in more!

Binge watching Jack Ryan on Prime on New Year’s Eve with Wifey. We paused thinking NYears was close, and we’d missed it by 10 seconds. Quickly got a pic at 15 seconds into 2023. We Kissed, then got more popcorn and kept watching.

Here's my entry. I spend my days chasing after my 3 year old son so on nights when my wife has to work late I unwind by either building a watch or playing with my camera.
My other habit for relaxing is coffee so I'll add another couple photos.

I like watches and fountain pens. It is a dangerous combination. I would say my fountain pen collection has a higher value than my watch collection but either way, it is a minefield. This is my Otto Freid special and a bespoke fountain pen in what the maker calls dragon-scale celluloid.

You know, I was randomly on a website that sold watches AND fountain pens. I was blown away with how much they cost! 😱
Absolutely gorgeous though.
I'd have to live in a box if I started to collect both. 🤦♀️
