I'm undecided about my DW-5600E and need some advise

The DW-5600E is the one that brought me back from Smartwatch notification hell. I bought it because I wanted the simplest watch I could buy and one that I knew that would not crap on me. Tough, reliable, precise, simple to read and utilitarian looking - all these are the qualities that I wanted and got in spades from the DW-5600E. Except from one: The ability to display the date in the format that I and the rest of the world are using.

Which is the main reason why I bought the GW-M5610U because the newer "U" modules finally brought this features to square world and the M5610 basically replaced the 5600E which I no longer wear and keep as a spare in the car's glovebox.

But I don't want to lose the 5600E and perhaps a car isn't the best place to keep there a watch, even if it's an unkillable square.

What should I do with my spare 5600E that I no longer use? Bring it back home and forget about it in a drawer? Is it worth experimenting on mods just for the sake of experimentation, or should I simply let it remain in the car until the battery die?

I'd leave it in the car/office on the off chance you forget to wear a watch. A watch with a backwards date is better than no watch at all.

I have the same complaint about my Timex Atlantis/Expedition, the month is in the wrong place.

·

I have the same problem with the same two watches. Both my 56xx G-Shocks are now near or on my desk and their slowly de-syncing chimes act as a long period clock that I reset about once every 6 weeks.

·

Sell it.

Keeping stuff that's not being used is just a waste of money in my opinion.

·

I would go with mod experimentation. There are interesting things out there to try :)

·

I had the same dilemma when I got my DW-5600SK which I modded with a camo strap from Aliexpress...https://www.watchcrunch.com/mgdaniel/posts/dw-5600-mod-2193....you can try it...and use both....the modded one as a dress watch😀

It's not worth the bother to deal with the often bizarre communications from potential buyers.

Keep em' both!

These are my 2 G's They sit on my desk when not in use. The 5610 was purchased to size down from the Rangeman which I wore for 7 years. But I just keep it handy for the tough jobs. As I'm in no hurry to beat up the little 5610. It's my go to backpacking, hiking, sports watch.

With the Ritchie strap adapters, the 5610 is incredibly comfortable to wear with a nylon seatbelt strap.

Use the 5600E for taking out the trash

If it was me I'd donate it to someone who could full usefulness out of it, child/niece/nephew/someone you're friends with that an inferior watch etc...

·

Donate it to charity

https://watchesforcharity.co.uk/

Postage might be prohibitive from Israel but you may be able to find something local.

·

If you have a way to gift it or donate it, I'd do that. If not - titanium mod.

·

Got to keep it as a back up and an oddity!

Probably be worth a fortune as an antique one day 😉

I second keeping them both!

Alternatively, I would gift it to someone else as life preserver from smart watch hell.

You can gift it to somebody

If you want to keep it, I keep my GShock on a shelf in the bathroom where there is no other clock and it doesn’t mind the humidity. Comes in handy in the morning when you have no watch on or your phone with you.

·

One more for "gift it."

·

Use as a decoration piece

·

Modding the watch could be fun, you might find a new interest if you try it. If you dont want to keep the watch then i suggest gifting it to someone, a family member, a friend or a friends kid (it could be someones first watch and get them into this hobby).

I did some modding with the square lots of bezel an strap options. I converted one into a metal it looked pretty cool. I even tried to mess around with the display with different films but made a mistake so I now have a bag parts collecting dust in a drawer.

·

I would note that the dw5600e has been officially approved by NASA for space flight. It's a great watch!

·

Keep it in your glovebox, with the doors unlocked.  What was your address again ?

·

Give it to someone who lives vigorously.

·

Have some fun with it and find out how durable it is! You may be surprised! Mine survived having a cinder block dropped on it, being buried overnight, a night in the freezer, a cycle through the washer and dryer, and it still works. The crystal is cracked, but I don't really mind. I still wear it.

Give it to someone you know, the 5600 is a great watch for someone who needs a watch but isn't like obsessed with watches

·

I say put it in the bug out bag or gift to someone who is addicted to their phone.

·

Keep it! Maybe not in the car but I guarantee you’ll need it at some point. Plus, it’s not like no one here has had multiple watches of the same model!

Yeah...there is also that.

Sadly, I don't think you can cure a phone addiction with a watch.

I put mine on a NATO with some kit. Not that great

I keep my watch on my wrist when I go to sleep. I'm never without a watch unless I shower.
