FAKE

Well I won an auction on EBay for a 43mm Green Longines HydroConquest and got it for a good price. The seller in Australia posted the tracking number the same day, excellent I should get the watch in 3 to 5 days.

After 5 days of no movement I got in touch with Aus Post who said they had no record of recieving it. Oh $#!t alarm bells ringing!!!

I get in touch with the seller who apologises profusely and promises to send it in the next few days. After another 5 days it shows up in the tracking system HOORAY!!

After 5 days I receive the watch very badly wrapped with hardly any protection around the box. Oh well lets open it up and have a look. As soon as I picked it up alarm bells rang. The bracelet was all loose and rattely and the clasp didn't close properly!!!

I then started to adjust the time and date and immediately thought this just doesn’t feel right its all to loose and the second hand isn't smooth enough!!!!!

OK lets get the back off and have a look and inside there is a really cheap Chinese movement, Oh double $#!t!!!!!!

I got in touch with EBay and sent them photos and they told me to send it back to the sender and the would refund me.

So I posted it on Monday with tracking and it was delivered on Thursday.

On Friday EBay contacted me and said it had been delivered and they had fully refunded me and the funds were in my acct Sunday morning.

Wow how good are #EBay I take my hat off to them, you cannot get better service than that. WELL DONE EBay.👏👏👏👍👍😉😃

Its difficult to to recognise a Fake from photos so buyers beware. But its good t know that EBay will look after you.👍😉😃

A scary tale. 😱

I’ve seen a lot of these going around, but usually with a 2824 clone.

TAG Heuer is another brand getting hit hard with fakes, and it’s getting harder and harder to tell. I’m glad you noticed got it sorted right away. Get thank junk out of your sight! 😂

·

Scary story😳 I’m glad everything turned out well for you.

·

I think eBay’s authentication service is probably very much worth the bit of extra cost. I’ve never bought a used watch because I’m scared to death of this type of thing

That sellers needs to get banned forever.

·

If they even used a fake for photos. Some sellers steal other sellers pictures(see a recent post of mine)

Heard they dont garentee every part of the watch. Like if you baught a vintage but it was a franken watch. But its good to hear a story like this.

·

Whew! I’d be pissed! Glad eBay took action for you! I’ve used eBays authenticity service before and this cautionary tale makes me glad I did. Bummer you don’t have a shiny new Hydroconquest to enjoy:/ hope you find another (genuine) one 👍

·

Who da heck fakes a Longines? Or let me rephrase that: Who fakes this one?

Is that model so heavily sought after that they lift a finger to fake it (as the story goes, presumably yes, but....why?)...

·

DAMN they make fake Longines 😳🤯😤

·

Doesn’t eBay have some sort of verification process?

·

I have sold watches on eBay and bought a Longines Conquest on there, but there are some wankers out there trying it on! Glad it all got resolved for you.

Only above £2000 I think.

When you list certain items eBay sometimes will have stock photos as well.

I'm glad that it worked well at the end.

I identified a fake watch last week, and eBay handled it the wrong way:

Beware of fakes!😱 eBay doesn’t believe me | WatchCrunch

Same happen to me last weekend. I found a listing for a Breitling Super Chronomat two tone ( which sells for just under $12000) for approximately $1800. I clicked on the "seller", "detail" and "description" and all was red flags. The seller was from Almaty, Kazakhstan and sold nothing else but candles and oils. I googled "counterfeits in Almaty" and came across numerous articles of police raids in that region for counterfeits luxury good and watches. They name Tag and Hublot in particular. When I reported this to Ebay, they said the seller was within their standards. However, the listing was still taken down ( probably realizing they were found out)

·

Sorry to hear they tried to rip you off. Glad you were able to get your money back. That is always I fear of mine.

·

I have had a scary selling situation. I was selling my Seiko sna411 and the seller wanted me to work with them via PayPal for payments. Me being a bit of a greenhorn, I said sure and sent it. Well, long story short I never got the payment amd the name I was given to send it was to a person who had been diseased for years. So I how to call USPS on the other end of the country to try to intercept the package. I got my package pack and the watch is still in my possession. Last time I was trusting of people on the internet lol

I feel ya bro! Thanks for the heads up 👊🏽

·

They’re copying Certina’s DS PH200M…no brand is safe…I saw a Mr. Jones fake on AliExpress a few days ago…microbrands are targets as well. Sad times.

·

Happy that all worked out well for you and you got the money back. I also had simmilar experience ( seller posted real photos but they weren't from actual watch being sold ) and luckily due to my cautious procedures upon selling or buying the watch I got the refund.

In your case if the posted pictures were from actual watch there were couple of clear signals it is fake, mainly lume pip in bezel, crown and date font.

It just shows we can't be to careful inspecting pictures and upon receiving the watch. If mislead by wrong pictures then it is impossible to figure out what you will get.

·

Cheeky that, glad you got refunded my friend 👌

·

If only Ebay didn't charge such huge selling fees!.😕

·

Glad it ended well for you and why I stay away from ebay

They sell also fake JLCs. Ebay did not react after reporting their listings.

This sucks because they somehow got Adrian from Bark & Jack to tout their "authentication "

Watches could be also original, but stolen. But I would bet for fakes, as the buy-it-now prices usually are few times lower than the normal market price.

The seller's country could be also other Central Asia country, such as Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, etc.
