I need some color in my life... But is this too much?

Taking a look at my collection, I realized that the majority of my watches have black dials. I have some white, and I have some blue. But that's it. Black. White. And blue.

I need some color in my life! Would love to add some green to my collection.

What is the predominant color in your collection? Anything wild and crazy and colorful like the new Rolex "Celebration Dial"? What are your thoughts on the new OP Celebration Dial? Too much? Or just the right amount of "fun" from the Crown? Personally, it's a bit much for my tastes.

Not my watch. Not my wrist. Not my photo. Photo credit: Hodinkee.

This may be a bit too much.

Personally I'd love a green Oyster Perpetual in 36.

Unfortunately I don't think I'll get my hands on such a thing!

Sky dweller is as much colour in a Rolex I would need , precious metal blue dial ( I’m dreaming 😴)

·

In my honest opinion it’s completely nonsensical, and impossible to read. It will match nothing, and mostly be impossible to wear. That being said it’s loud and for us watch enthusiasts will be spotted from across the room which whispers of "psst did you see that? No way, it’s probably not real" and for that reason I spoke to my sales rep and requested it.

It is the definition of a “Novelty”

Will get one, hopefully. Will my wife were it, probably. Will it make me smile, every time I look at it.

·

That is going to be the biggest flex piece/stealth wealth/fashionplate watch from Rolex in a couple of years time imo. That, the new platinum Daytona and that puzzle Day-Date.

If you can get one, good on you. If you can't, my advice? Be prepared to case @JaeBust's watch vault in a couple of years.

Sorry not sorry @JaeBust 😛

*Runs away!!! 💨💨💨

My collection is mostly black and white dialled watches.

I've decided somewhere in my future that I need an 'all-white' watch and a yellow-dialled watch.

As for the Rolex Bubble Watch, it's kinda reminds me of this:

I just listened to a BTW podcast today where Ariel pointed out that Rolex has gone after a few companies in the past for modifying dials with different colors and added colorful prints. They have lost a few of these cases as it was pointed out that colorful dials and prints aren't typically "Rolex". With these new print dials I think this gives Rolex a way to close the loophole forever. Not my style either but these new Rolex colors will be unobtainable for the masses and sell 3-4x list immediately.

I typically a "white and black" dial guy but I really like some almost all of the GS blue, pink, and grey dials and would rock a Chronometer Sport tri-color dial all day.

·

The problem with the "ball pit" Rolex is dial clutter. Try to quickly spot the time on that thing and it will take more than a glance. Its a cotton candy watch you will get tired off in minutes.

·

My opinion of the so-called celebration dial: 🤮🤮 HORRIBLE.

I can't afford ANY Rolex, but if I could, I would not waste my money on something that gaudy; and to think, people have the nerve to talk about how gaudy and tacky Invicta is! 😮 This celebration dial is 10x uglier than even the worst Invicta! 🤣

I was listing to a podcast the other day (no need to name). They opened up with a couple comments about how people in the watch industry take things too seriously, but when the topic of these Rolex's came up, they ranted about how nonsensical it is.

All that to say, I don't really have a hard opinion on these. They're not for me, but I don't hate that they made them either.

As for colors in my personal collection, I have a Pluto and a Uranus MoonSwatch and recently picked up a blue dial Seiko solar GMT. Beyond that though, black and white dials. When you mentioned adding color, my mind went straight to Studio Underd0g and Mr. Jones. Those two brands epitomize 'fun colors' for me.

·

unfortunately with the right celebrities, Tik Tokers and Instagramers seen/photographed wearing and endorsing these children’s dials, I can see these models becoming all the rage.

:(

·

This watch seems to me like the guy in the office who thinks he’s too indifferent coming in dressed as a clown.

A bit funny at first (shock), then, what the heck, that’s weird (realisation), followed by (when he’s been taken away by security), mild horror (what just happened there?!)

The one watch that had some fun and colour about it, the BW Milgauss, was spot on for me. I was on the waiting list you know. But I’m not bitter.

Repeat. I’m not bitter…!

·

My first thought when I saw the photos was that now Swatch can't ever collab with M&M because Rolex will sue their pants off.

·

After years of bitching about how Rolex doesn't offer anything new and exciting, they have. And it is hideous. Rolex, go back to doing nothing and I won't ask for any new offerings.

·

I have a silver dial OP36 and my only complaint with it is legibility, but I would suspect that this "celebration" dial would be even more difficult to read at a glance. I don't personally understand the appeal of this, or the puzzle dial DJ, but I have no doubt that there are plenty of folks who find them whimsical and appealing.

Rather than saying I dislike them, I'll say that this dial variant is my 7th favorite of the 7 available OP36 dials, and my 5th favorite of the 5 available OP41 dials.

·

I just posted about the Oyster Perpetual pictured, although I'm sure we can all agree "balls edition" is a far better name than "celebration dial." I love it, even though it's illegible and bound to be expensive. Would I get one if I could afford it? In a heartbeat.

As for colour in my collection, I have a very diverse range of dull colours. Silver, black, navy, brown and champagne. I am in the same boat and eager to add some colour. I spotted a vintage watch with orange lume which I'm keen to pick up once I'm out of the financial predicament buying watchmaking supplies has got me into.

·

I love the OP, but I rather get it ofmon e color, my fav color is yellow and orange, so.. someday I will get my hands on one OP

·

Might be fun (for some folks) for a Swatch but for a Rolex? It reeks of trying too hard to be something the brand is not. I suspect they'll make very few and sell even fewer. Eventually, it might become a model sought after by collectors with more money than taste. I've be wrong before but, I see something like this turning more people off of a legacy brand than turning on. It'll be interesting to see where it goes and how wrong or not I am.

·

I showed this to my wife. She said:

"This watch certainly sends a message.

The message is, "I will buy anything Rolex will sell me.""

😂

I actually kind of like it. I'm glad that it exists, at least. I bet this is a really sought after status piece as soon as it's discontinued.

These things are supposed to bring us joy. That's why we spend money and time on them. That's okay. I am seriously considering the Oris Kermit, for this reason.

·

I think of it as Maslow's hierarchy of needs, but for watches. Once you get your foundational watches and get some diversification, you start to get more adventurous. More color, more avant garde designs, etc. Or maybe I'm just getting older and dgaf!

·

Can’t get behind this one.

·

This watch reminds me of when a 70 year old acquaintance of mine tried dabbing to impress his grand kids.

His wife and kids were embarrassed. His grandkids were not impressed.

Me, I was a little worried that he might throw out his back and was vaguely wondering if I needed to preemptively call for a stretcher or something.

I don't mind that people like it and it doesn't offend me or anything, but Rolex is a watchmaker that takes itself so seriously as a tool watch maker (Titanium Deepsea Challenge anyone?) that this feels emotionally dissonant.

Like, from Moser or MB&F or even a Cartier, this would be fun and silly and somewhat on point with their sense of style and fun. With Rolex, it feels weird.

·

I like it. I’m gonna try my luck to see if I can source one from an AD. I know the odds are stacked against me. If I don’t get it, it’s no biggie. I’ll just keep enjoying my yellow dial OP.

I have 15 watches that I rotate regularly, and the majority of them are brightly coloured or multi-coloured (12 of them). I have exactly 1 white dialed watch, 1 black dial, and 1 grey dial.
