Cyclops on a watch.

What's your opinion on a cyclops/date magnifier on a watch?

For me they are a deal breaker. I'm not a huge fan of a 3 o'clock date window anyway but I own some, and I'll buy if I like the watch for other reasons. But a cyclops is a no.

Like Wolverine, I want Cyclops dead too. Jean is mine!!

Don't like them or dates to be honest. This is the only cyclops I like lol!

I’m 60+. I need it to see the date

·

I don’t have a strong opinion one way or the other. I have watches with a cyclops and watches without, and I have no preference in regards to either. 🤷‍♂️

·

Need it and love it. Very helpful for me.

·

How they managed to get the wart accepted as a solution is probably the funniest con since the Emperor's New Clothes.

·

I like it on my Aquaracer.

·

I've seen some vintage Omegas with either 3 and 6 o'clock date windows, equipped with a round "cyclops" placed on the underside of the crystal so it doesn't protrude like a tumour. This is a far, far superior version to whatever Rolex continues to use.

Touche.

And D times infinity.

As my eyes get older, I'm going to hold the watch to my eyeball. I cannot explain my irrational dislike of cyclopsi (🤔?) but most watch peeps have at least one....

Cyclops is a literal D…in the comics, and coincidentally in this poll.

Love Seiko but they are guilty as charged.

One of the better inventions of the last century.

Yea for example the mini turtle Pepsi PADI is such a cool watch, but don't like having to fork over more cash immediately to pop a new crystal in.

The cyclops is for the day/date windows. But why does a diver need to know the day/date anyways. Are they diving in the middle of the night? So let’s get rid of the day/date on dive watches, and the cyclops will go away too.

That Rolex without the cyclops makes the date window size look off to the rest of the watch. You would at least want the date number to be the same size as the numbers on the bezel. That's an OCD no no. LOL

·

The Rolex cyclops is good, it works and fits in somehow. On other watches it can be good too but there are also some cases where it is counterproductive. Sometimes it doesn't magnify and sometimes, like on my Ebel Diver, it is too little and on days of the form 1x it usually only magnifies the second digit unless you look at it from the perfect angle. 😄 then it is no good.

I’m consistent in my criticism

·

I'm somewhere between C & D. I don't hate them but I can't imagine buying one. But I don't mind if others buy them.

·

I’m kind of indifferent…don’t love it, don’t hate it. But it’s really a shame to be so opinionated on it that you pass on a watch because of it considering it can be removed.

·

I think they look ugly AF and will never buy a watch with one.

·

But if you could have it without...?

·

I used to have a significant amount of disdain / hate towards cyclops. However, a watch recently was added to the collection with a big ugly cyclops (that might even be off center)....and my old eyes actually are now quite fond of old one eye.

Other side of the coin: What about SMALL date windows? RECESSED too far into the face? TINY dates?

·

The dirt and grime gathering around the offending article would be a bit of a problem for me.

Voted C, but I'm realistically somewhere between C and D

·

I went from 'KILL!!!' to 'meh' since I felt my knees buckling when I see two-tone DayDates with a jubilee bracelet...

If there was ever a watch that I felt I had to have, no substitute, and it had cyclops. I would of course still buy it and look to remove or replace the crystal. But I haven't found that watch yet. Also if I ever liked a watch that much, it would probably be despite the cyclops in the first place.

·

I wish Rolex sold non-cyclops versions.

·

As I've gotten older I appreciate them more, I like the well aligned one on my Datejust, but the misaligned one on my Alpanist irritates me. Get what you pay for I suppose, but Seiko could do better at that price point.

·

With Rolex the cyclops has become very iconic. There are Brands that utilize it nicely and others like Seiko that don't. For example the Candy Bar on my King Turtle. Absolutly hate that piece of Plastic
