Hamilton - $2,500 bucks for quartz?

I just saw this now. The Dune watch. I think it’s cool, but. I’m appalled.

What gives?

What are your views on the matter?

Crazy!

·

Cool, but £500 max...

·

If Casio can charge £5700 for a G-shock…. (see my post from yesterday)

·

Why appalled?

·

I think this is a really cool piece of design, if maybe a bit of a cheat making it a Ventura which has nothing to do with Dune, but yeah you’re right the price is ridiculous

·

Yeah, as soon as I looked at it, I was like🥰. Partly because I’ve always wanted a Ventura but I never particularly liked them, but nonetheless wanted, It’s an iconic style/design but, as others stated beyond my threshold of resistance, as far as the amount of cash, it would be relieving from my wallet. It sure is a cool looking watch though.

Isn't the Cartier Tank Must also quartz at over $3K? People will pay what they're comfortable paying so this is not an issue unless you just want to thumb your nose at the most accurate and convenient movement available in the market. Just like everything else in the hobby, if you don't want to pay that, then the watch just isn't for you...

·

What’s disgusting to me is that I want it. Like a lot. And its the lust that I find disgusting. Must touch it.

·

I mean.. It’s $3.4k for a Quartz Cartier tank… there must be a market for this. I wouldn’t pay more than $500 for it but I’m sure plenty of others will.

·

It's a futuristic looking watch that looks like a happy meal you sold on Ali express

But so does every Richard Mille and they sell for 100,000+ USD

The fact that it's quartz has nothing to do with its perceived value or price. Citizen, Seiko, Brietling, Longines all have high end thermocompensated quartz watches that are well finished and incredible watches. $2500 is a fair price for a quartz movement the same as it is for an automatic. Whether it's a fair price for this quartz watch is another question.

I think it looks like a cool movie prop. I wouldn't buy it for that price and I probably wouldn't wear it for that price either

·

Love the Dune books, but a big no on this. Dune and commercial crossovers is weird - it's a pretty niche and complex book to be mass appealing outside a streamlined movie/mini-series- most of which have failed until the recent attempts.

·

You know what? The price is bonkers, yes absolutely, but they're really cool! As someone who has loved Dune far longer than watches I've gotta say these are really pulling me in. Will I get one at first release, of course not, but will I be watching the used market like a hawk, you know it!

·

The watch looks GREAT.

I love the hollow digits and the minimally exposed wiring, but the case shape, I just don't know. Can't help but think it'd be cooler as a square or pillow-square case design

·

I'm generally not a fan of the Ventura, but there definitely been more expensive Quartz watches out there.

UnholiestJedi

Brand value matters.

People are going to buy it because it's in Dune.

And the people that buy it set the value, not those who dont.

Yes, I guess that’s true. No, I’m sure that’s true. The real pity is that we genuine watcherswould really get a kick out of one of those two. I think the ‘edge’ one is really cool. It’s quite far-out for me, but I could wear it, and would wear it. It pleases me in that ticklish way that MAD watches and Uhrwerk and MB&F amuse or surprise.

But no damn way am I going to pay stupid money for something that I know perfectly well is intrinsically a fraction of its putative value.

I hope Hamilton grows a brain and reissues these in a few years with a few case treatments. I can imagine blasted, blackened and then brushed bronze,*‘dirty’ titanium, PVD coloured steel…

I’d buy that for a dollar!

*I’m a sculptor, and work in bronze. You can do an awful lot with bronze! The simplicity of the watch manufacturers regarding bronze amazes me. Hmm.

Maybe a nice watch company will offer me some work…. (drifts into a watcher’s wonder-world)

·

I rather like it!

·

Fuckall

·

Looks like something on Ali express for 25 quid.

·

Just an awful, missed opportunity. $2.5K for a 3D printed dial and a watch that isn't even actually in the movie. And I say this as a huge fan of Hamilton, the various PSRs and digital watches in general. Not to mention Dune. A big disappointment.

·

I like it, but not for $2,500 regardless of movement type.

·

I have no issue with it being quartz or even digital, but it just simply doesn't command that money imo. It should be 500, I was expecting 1k. 2.5k is insane

·

Its a great looking piece but way to expensive for what it is.

·

I like it, but I would be agreeable to buy it new for 1/4 of its official price only....

·

May thy watch chip and shatter

Hype = Price

May thy watch chip and shatter

Ah HAH! I know your lore… 😄

Well done!

·

Those prices are a joke, to be honest. They would probably be a hit if they sold the three versions for $2,000. Someone in their business department needs to get the prices right. They have an interesting concept picked from the Men in Black version.

·

Cool if you're a movie fan with disposable income and can overlook the obvious cash grab by Hamilton.

·

I cannot remember if I commented on this earlier.

Anyway, this is a cool #hamilton . I think it's mostly due to design and knowing die hard fans would pay for it.
