Ranger vs Pro

Hello all. I’m looking for your opinions. I understand that the Tudor Ranger and the Tudor BBPro are significantly different watches as one is a time only and the other is a 3 complication piece, however for me it is more about the way I would use them. For me they fit the need of an everyday wearer.
If you own both could you comment on your opinion of which may suit my purpose better? If you don’t own either I would also appreciate your opinions.
Thank you in advance.

I'd go for the Pro -- it's more useful in more situations.  It can dress up or down, it's good for travel, and it's got better WR than the Ranger.  The only disadvantages that it has are thickness (which isn't that bad -- and I speak as an owner of a BB GMT which is the same thickness) and price.

·

They are both solid choices it just depends on your use. For me I like the gmt.

·

Both nice, but I like that the Ranger has less going on.

·

How do you intend on using them? Are you hoping for it to be a beater watch where ruggedness is more important to what an office worker might require?

I‘d personally go for the Ranger because I wouldn’t want my watch to be more interesting than I am.

‘Man made the watch, the watch never made the man.’

·

Pro!! Best release from Tudor in years IMO ☺️ Rugged clean design, good functions and good size (even though it's thick). The BB36 silver dial is pretty killer too, that's not on the meny here.

Disclaimer: Haven't tried any of them on.

Good point. It would be a beater but to be fair a beater to me is really a watch I wear most of the time for any purpose. I would only take it off if there was some special occasion where I would want to wear something to match say an outfit

The Ranger seems like a better everyday wearer. Simple enough you can dress it up with a leather band or dress down with a nato. Also lower maintenance as it has a simpler movement and less parts. Lastly more comfortable over time as its smaller with less thickness and weight.

All that said, Ive tried the Tudro GMT, but not owned one. Have not tried a Ranger, I imagine it feels similar to other three handers of its size.

#tudor Black Bay Pro

  • GMT - Different time zone, day night indicator, 4th hand, Yellow hand 🤚 - pick any reason
  • Date - There is no history without knowing the date. how would you know how many days have passed by since you last purchased a watch. You don’t want to be Tom Hanks from Cast Away with tally marks on the wall while looking at your Ranger.
  • Black & Yellow combination: How many cool things do you know that have that combination. E.g. Taxi cab 🚕
  • And lastly:

That is awesome. Great reasoning. 👍🏽

I like the Pro. I find the Ranger bland.

Putting personal tastes and how this might wear on you aside, as an everyday wearer, you've may need to consider:

  • How would you feel if you scratched or dinged either watch on a table, door or another metal object?
  • Will you change the look of the watch from time to time? Perhaps strap versatility is a thing to consider.
  • Versatility to dress up/down. Is that a must?

I'd personally go for the Ranger. Almost complete brushed finish will hide scratches better, more than enough WR for everyday use and less shouty, so as to blend in, whether you're pottering around the house or attending a fancy event.

gmt

don't have either but i would go gmt

·

I want both. If I had to pick right now, Ranger.

·

Ranger. It's a good watch, and I've always loved its aesthetics.

·

I don’t have the pro but I have a Ranger and the 43mm Black Bay Bronze.  I love them both but the thinner, lighter Ranger with the t-fit clasp is a very comfortable daily that you can forget you are wearing.

The dimensions of the Pro are way too bulky, hence I‘d choose the Ranger. If both fit you, I’d still choose the Ranger due to the ((ugly)) Snowflake hand of the Pro.

I appreciate the feedback. It’s funny how many find the snowflake hands ugly and then there is a whole other group that finds the shovel hour hand on the Ranger ugly. I actually like both 😕. Lol

Nothing wrong with that. I am glad there are different tastes in the watch world 😁 You either love or hate the snowflake hand. I just think they don‘t fit the otherwise rather delicate aspects of the watch and are rather illegible.

For me, a watch qualifies as a daily if it fits underneath a dress shirt's cuff, so the BB GMT is out. However, I use the date complication almost daily. I would still get the ranger, simply because I would dread that slight feeling of discomfort a top-heavy watch head might produce over time.

·

I don't own either but having seen both in the metal, the PRO is miles ahead for design and quality. Obviously both are from tudor but I just felt that the PRO was a more substantial better made piece and a complete do it all. The Ranger for me just looked cheap (for a tudor) and very underwhelming.

But every man opinions is not the same as the next. Only you can really decide the right price for you (PRO) 👍

Just picked up a Ranger yesterday. It’s super comfortable. I prefer the silver case/black dial look for my watches so imo it’s pretty up there fir that category. With that being said, currently honeymoonin atm cheers!

Congratulations. I would love it if you could circle back say in a couple of weeks and let me know how your feeling about it. Enjoy and thanks.

Right now I have the BB GMT Pepsi / 41mm along with the new Ranger.  It would be hard to decide on just one of them.   The new GMT Pro is just as thick as the one I own which makes it a little heavy and chunky as an everyday watch.  I wear the GMT to work as I travel for a living.   The new Ranger gets worn at home on my off days..  Bottom line, if you need a date complication or a second time zone, get the GMT.  If you want light weight and simple, get the Ranger.

·

I have seen them in the flesh but I don't own them.

Personally for me the ranger dial is a bit too flat and empty, but it wears nicely. The BB pro dial instead is more interesting  but is quite thick so it is less comfortable on the wrist.

So for me if you like them both,at the same way, I would buy the Ranger as a dayli watch.

·

I have owned a pro and no longer do. Don't get me wrong its a great watch but for me i'd do the ranger.

I thank you for your feedback if anything.

·

Well I thank everyone for your feedback.

I currently own the Pro and have for quite a while. I have used it as my everyday and has been on my wrist for 85% of my time since I have owned it, about 2 months now.

I love the watch but some-days I do feel it a bit on the thicker side. Doesn't bother me to wear as I have worn SD43, DeepSea and even 46mm Breitlings as everyday watches in the past.

The issue is that as a daily wearer, I always think of something simpler. I do own another GMT already, and an OP39 which is great as a daily as well, however both of those are a bit more on the more fancier side.

I find the ranger simply plays that rugged, everyday all purpose watch look very well.

Some of your points are so valid as well, I do not need a GMT as an everyday, the date is nice to have but not essential, the lighter aspect of the Ranger may be a welcome change.

All this to say the Pro is a magnificent watch and I wish I could own both, but as an everyday perhaps the Ranger would be better for me.

I don't want to let the Pro go without tons of though on it as it was very difficult to get and if I regret it, it will likely take a long time to get another.

I really can't thank everyone enough for your opinions and advice. I will report back as soon as I have made my final decision.

·

BTW if anyone else has more advice or comment on my rational please feel free to add. Much appreciated.

As requested. Update: I still really like this watch as I prefer the understated style. I also am loving the T-Fit clasp. I’ve taken it on a hike and am planning to take it with me on my trip to Canada/PNW.

A quick update. Shipping out today is my Tudor Pro. Yes it was a difficult decision and I hope one  I won't regret.

Incoming, hopefully tomorrow, the Tudor Ranger to replace it's spot as my everyday.

I thank you all for you awesome feedback and I will report in the near future of my new experience with the Ranger.

Cheers all.

How do you like it?

Shame I couldn’t follow this real time but I’m also thinking between those 2.

One alternative I was thinking would be owning a pro and Hamilton murph.
