2023 Rolex Explorer 40 not so much of a strap monster as I thought

Hey crew. Has anyone experienced this, I purchased a new 2023 Explorer 1 40mm, and sure it great on the steel bracelet but one of the aspects I was most looking forward too, was the ability to use it on all kinds of straps.

In looking at the case side between the lugs, along with the position of the pin holes on the lugs, it is likely impossible to wear this on anything other than the steel bracelet.

Even if a nato did fit, the view of that side of the case is quite horrible. A bit of a let down.

I wonder if the 36mm is the same.

I think I have read somewhere before you need curved spring bars to get around the strap bite issue.

Interesting. Ok I will look into that. Thank you so much.

Curved springbars, or thin single pass.

Resco Watches makes some as well as Blushark.

You can also place the watch head where you want it on the strap, attach springbars, etc. Then when you want to change the straps just do it again. With a quality springbar tool it'll take only marginally longer.

The oyster case requires curved spring bars for straps

Never occurred to me but getting on that asap.

Same experience with the 124270 36mm. Good thing I love the bracelet. When I do throw a strap on the Explorer curved spring bars are a must

Even the 39mm has very sharp edges which can graze the leather and has kinda ugly finishing (I think all Rolex models are like that actually).

I found leather straps will fit even with straight lug bars, you just need to work them a little bit to shape them into a very mild curve.

These days, I really don’t notice the finishing and all my straps fit without an issue. So persevere, you’ll be able to wear any strap you want.

The tight tolerance takes much of the fun out of casually putting on a strap and the curved spring bars only help with bands that have thinner material. Fortunately the bracelet is part of the iconic look.

That is very true. Steel bracelet is iconic no doubt.

Yep, same on the 124270 36mm Explorer. I tried a leather strap once shortly after I got it. Took it off after 5 minutes. I know curved spring bars are a thing, but I've not yet bothered yet. May never bother, the bracelet is just that good.

I do keep my OP Date on the bracelet.

Rolex has actually shaped the edges of the lugs and inner sides such that it cannot easily fit aftermarket straps. Friend of mine is a certified Rolex tech.

Rolex does it on purpose they want their watches on the stock brackets but some companies make straps specifically for Rolex models to fit flush
