One-watch collection

I’ve recently acquired this mint explorer 2 16570 to be my one-watch collection, and I’m thinking about selling all my other watches to keep only this one.

Let me explain why I think this is the One:

  • Under the radar: this is not as easily recognizable as other rolexes
  • It’s a tool watch: it has date, gmt and a very robust and reliable movement
  • It‘s comfortable: for a daily watch, nothing speaks more than wearability, this watch has amazing proportions 40mm/12mm and has a very comfortable bracelet, it just fades away on the wrist
  • It has drilled lugs: easy to swap for natos or leather straps when needed

The only things I see that could be improved in this watch would be a larger crown and a third position for quickset date, but since this is going to be my daily the date won’t have to  be adjusted, except every two months.

So what is your opinion? Which watch do you think it could be a good one-watch collection?

Cheers!

oh man!! One Watch! …I’m not mature enough yet to get to that level…I’m a juvenile and at times delinquent too…but I do see your point of choosing this watch…but One Watch!! 🤯😳

·

I am not a fan of one-watch collection. But, the Explorer 2 is a good choice! 🍻

·

Nice watch, but good luck with that😎

Owning only one watch is like stopping at only one potato chip.

Great if you can be happy with this one watch. I could be happy with 6, maybe even 5, but no less. It might be nice though to just enjoy reading and learning about watches without needing to acquire.

·

Enjoy your new watch! Would definitely love to own an explorer II but I am not sure whether I will be satisfied with having one watch only 😂

·

I bought a second hand one with box and papers for 1996 and have had it for about 6 years. It's a mega watch that I treat with care but love. It's even got the original old style clasp but was polished when I got it. I cherish it!

How i envy you...and a great pick as well🤝

·

It's in your blood! You will never be satisfied with just one,  no matter how beautiful.   ....oh we are talking watches.

·

One watch is not a collection, no matter how nice the watch. A one watch collection is not a thing.

I am not at a place where I want to be a one watch guy BUT I am down to one Rolex. I purchased my Explorer II a thousand years ago and love it . I just gave my new 36mm Explorer I to my daughter. The comfort on the wrist, looks being a little under the radar,  and all around awesomeness make the Explorer II my choice. I've sold my Datejust,  OP, Submariner etc. My wife has more Rolex watches and I'm super happy . I like Seiko & Resco divers more than my Sub. Call me weird.  My other watches appeal to me much more than Rolex options. Omega and Grand Seiko just make peices that I like better in other styles. My prize GMT is the Explorer II. Good call. Great one watch collection!

my only watch rn I sold off the other watch

I don’t think my brain could handle just “one” but I can’t argue with your choice or reasoning. You could do much worse.

·

I like the idea of a small collection, but I could probably never get it down to 1. 2 or 3 is what I'm aiming for currently!

·

I don’t think I could do a one watch collection, but I’m working my way down to a 6 watch collection or even 4. I think I’ll be able to cover all needs and occasion’s with only 6. But good luck if you can pull it off with the one watch, in the end you can’t take all these possessions with you, so someone else will benefit from whatever you collect 😉

So, you are saying that you use the same watch to eat a burger and a hot dog?

Because these are completely different things that require different watches to properly do each one of them...

Don't say you eat pizza wearing this one too?

O.M.G. What kind of world is this!!!!!

I am currently looking to get my 3rd ramen watch because you know... options lol

Who eats ramen and yakisoba wearing the same watch? A barbarian, that's who. I will wear a rectangular watch if I drink black coffee. When I take half and half I switch to a round dial. It's not just science, it's manners.

I feel that the Explorer is great for an only watch, but I don't consider a single anything to be a collection.  If that is your only watch, I would not consider you to be a watch collector, but rather simply a watch owner. Of course, it's perfectly possible to be a watch enthusiast with a single watch, or even without owning any watches at all, since enthusiasm does not require ownership.

Consider me an ex-collector then 🤣

Certainly a good choice for your collection. Personally I would opt for the Explorer 1 if it has to be a collection of 1 watch. I think that is more versatile unless you travel often and really need the GMT. The bezel on the Explorer 2 makes the watch less under the radar in my opinion. But heck buy this and you can always change to a 2 watch collection.

·

I don't see why someone couldn't wear this Explorer II all day every day for the rest of their life. I think that's true of most steel Rolex watches, actually. I'm sure that's how most regular folks approach them.

Now. Whether that's possible whilst also maintaining an active interest and participation in communities such as this one... THAT is a good question.

·

I had the chance to try out Explorer 2 and I love everything about it.  This will be the only Rolex that would be part of my collection(if I can get one without paying an exorbitant price. I have been on the hunt for this model, and it is a top contender for a "one-watch " collection. I think you have nailed it there. Congrats!

·

One watch?! Then what's the other wrist for..

·

Could I have bought something a  lot more luxurious like your Rolex instead of plenty of low to middle range watches? yes! but I feel like the variety excites me.

am I jealous that you can do this?

maybe

·

For me it‘s the opposite - getting rid of most of my Rolex watches ( just sitting in a box covered by dust ); I’ve been wearing G-Schocks most of the time ^^

·

By it’s very definition, a single item by itself is not a collection. If you’re happy owning one watch, fine, just don’t call it by that trendy fashion buzzword cause that’s not a thing. Personally, I’m happy with my 30+ watches (I lost count), so I  always have options depending on my mood.

NSFW 🤣

I see your question is about "which watch would be your 1 watch collection", but you also mentioned selling your other pieces. I'd like to address both if I may.

1.) One watch collection = Rolex GMT Master II ( The Batman).

2.) As someone who has sold a few of his pieces and regretted it, may I humbly suggest, that you "hide"  your collection away for say a year. If you don't think about or miss wearing them, then sell them. I say this because I am now reacquiring watches I sold and wished I had done this.

3.) Nice looking Explorer II !🍻

·

Love the idea👌

Not sure i can do it 🤷‍♂️
