Longines Heritage Military 1938. What is your favorite military watch?

The Longines Heritage Military 1938 watch is a remarkable timepiece that is a tribute to the brand's rich heritage and expertise in the field of watchmaking. Inspired by a military watch produced by Longines in 1938, this watch is a perfect blend of vintage design and modern technology. The watch has a case diameter of 43mm, with the dial that is simple and elegant, with large Arabic numerals and luminescent hands. The small seconds subdial located at the 6 o'clock position adds to the vintage appeal of the watch. It's a perfect choice for anyone who appreciates the timeless elegance of a classic military watch. It pairs fantastically with leather straps, like this Full-Stitch Whiskey Shell Cordovan strap we have here.

Military watches should match the time period in size also instead of just faux patina. The old guys had small wrist watches or large pocket watches not the other way around.

It does match the size. Longines 4092 was also a 43mm watch.

It’s hard to beat a type A flieger imho. All utility, no nonsense.

This watch matches its historical reference in size.

That said I disagree that they always need to match their original dimensions. There were lots of great military watches at 33mm or so, and if they were made in that size now they’d hardly sell. Longines has upsized multiple historical models from 33.5mm to 38.5mm and it’s a move that makes sense. It makes those watches commercially viable and enjoyable by people today. Could they do them in 36 or 37mm? Yeah, that could work as well, but that would still be upsizing.

I will forever wonder why Longines went so large with that watch. And I say that as a guy who has a large wrist and can rock a large watch. But with field watches (and historic watches) being traditionally small, I think they should have gone to 41mm with that one, if they wanted a contemporary size, and called it a day. Especially with such a large dial anyway, heading into 43mm territory is an odd choice.

Lovely but too big in my opinion.

It doesn't matter to me at all whether it is right historically, buy to me it looks odd with all that space on the dial?

·

Im a big fan of military watches this Longines looks really good.

·

Not sure if this counts or not. Used this one for 5-7 years before I knew I was so into watches

Hamilton for a classic look and Marathon GSAR for a tool military look. This Longines is beautiful. As posted a big watch but very well made & great fit and finish

I'm currently wearing my favorite military inspired watch, the Timex MK1 Mechanical. I love that it is true to the size (36mm), materials (acrylic crystal), and basic hand wind movements of 1960-1980's U. S. Mil Spec watches.

I can only comment on the only military inspired watch in my collection (besides G-Shocks which I know is a favorite of enlisted folk) which is my Dan Henry 1945 Vintage inspired Chronograph. So I guess my question would be are we talking military inspired watches, watches military actually wear today or both? @twostitchstraps

Beautiful, per usual coming from your collection!

Love it! Funny that Hamilton just came out with the exact same watch too, but in 3 different configurations, SS 38, SS 43 and Bronze 43.

Thank you🙏You are most kind. These are civil versions but issued during WWII.

I love all things from that era. I guess that’s what always attracted me to joining the Air Force. I’ve always felt a kinship with that generation, my grandparents. I’ve always been an old soul. My family always said I was 14 going on 40, but now that I’m 40… I wish I was 14! Lol
